A ghetto pontoon adventure. My friend and I were intent on renting a boat and were too lazy to do adequate research so we impulsively decided to give this place a shot. With the exception of my brief stint sailing a schooner in high school, we had no prior boating experience, unless you include sitting on other people’s boats. The staff was adept at teaching us how to drive the boat. However, they failed to mention where the life vests were located and that the boat lacked a ladder for swimming. The boat itself was a piece of crap. It was missing a chair and the surfaces were sticky and dirty. The floor was littered with tequila wrappers and we speculated that someone may have used the corner of the boat as a urinal. I attempted to search for the life vests, figuring they were located in the benches, but could not pry the bench top open. After multiple attempts throughout the trip, I gave up. Luckily, we found a life vest floating in the lake and then with considerable effort, used a random oar to eventually retrieve the vest. When we decided to stop the boat and swim, we realized that we didn’t have a ladder and the boat platform was too far from the water to be able to climb back into the boat. In fact, there was no ledge or pole to grab onto to pull yourself into the boat. Nothing. You’re screwed. There was no way in hell we were leaving without swimming in the lake, so we took inventory, noting that we had an oar, an orange floating square, a rope, and one life vest. I tied a bunch of knots(which apparently I have a talent for) and created a step that hung off the boat, which was essentially useless. My friend put the life vest on and threw herself into the water. Upon hitting the water she instantaneously panicked, as the distance from the water to the boat was farther than we thought. As she was screaming«drive the boat to shore» and attempting to barnacle herself to the boat and the make-shift step, I was eventually able to pull her out by the front of her life vest. Had I not been able to lift her out, I’m sure we would’ve figured something out eventually. While we will always have fond memories of the ghetto pontoon, I don’t recommend wasting money here. Go up the lake and you will find cheaper and nicer boats.

Not being a boater, a beautiful fall morning was calling out to me to take a ride. After renting out one of the smaller boats(a process that takes about 10 minutes for signatures and the like) the person renting the boat to me cleaned the morning dew off of all the seats and made sure everything was in good shape. He then took my wife and i out a little bit into the water and showed us how to use the controls and pulled out a map. He went over where not to go and gave us the knowledge on how to stay away from shallow areas. Since we are rookies to boating this was very helpful for us. An experienced boater probably wouldn’t have wanted to hear the story. Anyway, the boat was in great shape(we rented a small pontoon boat) and we headed out for 2 hours. We had a FANTASTICTIME!!! One that we will remember forever. It was $ 125 for 2 hours.($ 75 for hour one and $ 50 for the second hour.) In my opinion it was up there on the best money I’ve ever spent. So peaceful and you really feel like you are out in the wilderness. The scenery was awesome! Tip: If you don’t know where to park, you can park on Canada street right near Café Vero. Across the street is a little outdoor mall area that goes right to the water. You rent the boat there. Just go down the stairs. Tip #2: We went on a Monday morning and we had the whole lake to ourself. It wasn’t crowded and parking on Canada street was a breeze.(Sept 2011.) Note: You have to give them a $ 200 deposit that is refunded at the end. It’s in case you mess up the motor in shallow water. I did this on my credit card.

When i first saw this place there where Five teenager running the little shack. I thought i would have to go through bull to rent a boat. I was wrong, they Really know what there doing. Very nice and Patient they know what there talking about. The price it a little crazy you would have to leave a deposit of $ 200 then for the boat it self, but the service was great. I would have given it a Five star but the boat was so slow the picture on there website mad it look crazy fast, went slower then most of all the boats. They have a lot of rules and fines it’s ok you brake it you pay for it. But end of the day my family had fun that’s all that matters.
