The service was great, but the manager is terrible. He made us pay tip when my group was short on money and we still had a long way to drive home.

Tastes ok, but not that good really. Overpriced for diner food. Too many other great options, so I wouldn’t go back.

New Years Day luncheon was very good! Lucky us, we were seated right away. Warning, its quite loud in here, especially with the addition of several screeching toddlers and babies. So don’t expect to be able to talk to your companions. Service was responsive and fast. Food hot. We ordered: Patty Melt. YUM always my go-to at Ruby’s and good and juicy as ever. Cheeseburger. Made to order, kids love it, no extra gunky sauces, just flavorful meat shining through. Veggie burger. Our appointed vegetarion deemed it delish. Chili Fries. Big order, did not dissapppoint. Shakes. Yes, it IS the law that kids must surrender the extras in the silver mixer cups to parents on demand. This fam loves Ruby’s.

My son loved the strawberry banana shake, and a ½ bacon cheeseburger. My daughter and I thought the guacamole burger was very good, and went crazy for the onion rings. Fun atmosphere. Nice touch to have classic cars out front :-)

Unfortunately, Ruby’s has gone down hill a bit. The salads always come out with slightly wilted lettuce. The burgers buns are always slightly stale. Fries are good as normal. They have done away with the fried zucchini and the fish tacos… which is a bummer. I think the training and management has unfortunately gone downhill over the last 3 – 5 years. It’s not the place it used to be.

This place is pretty cool! First we got a free root beer float by getting a red gumball. Secondly the food was spot on, minus the cheese. Our food came out quick and it was cooked perfectly. The chicken fingers were crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. The burger was done to perfection and had fresh toppings on it. Root beer float was very good!

Came in for the fries and onion ring order, was about to place my order when the phone rings, instead of asking to hold for the person on other line, she took that persons order, then after 3 mins, the girl then was done and was gonna take my order when same thing happens, again, does the same thing. And answers the phone to proceed taking another persons order, the awkward stare i had with the girl is just too long and unbearable. After ten mins, finally ordered and the manager was actually helpful and asked if i needed anything else. Quick food delivery but the server seem like a rookie.

«Earth angel, earth angel Will you be mine My darling dear Love you all the time I’m just a fool A fool in love with you Earth angel, earth angel The one I adore Love you forever and ever more I’m just a fool A fool in love with you» I was born in the wrong decade, I fear. Something about the 50’s has me swooning at the thought of sock hops, diners and juke boxes. And the music. Of course, the love songs. Darling boyfriend played into this and brought me here on our first Valentine’s Day, 2013(^_~), and got one of my favorites playing(Earth Angel) playing on the jukebox. Sadly his first attempt was rejected as I didn’t want our anniversary to be on Valentine’s(it ended up being 2 weeks later on the dot lmfao). But it was a very romantic date indeed. Aww, I love reminiscing. anyhow, this has to be one of my favorite Ruby’s ever. I’d never been here prior to that day, but I definitely fell in love with the diner(I was already in love with the company) and have returned many times since then as it’s a such a cute place. Located on Coast Hwy, in between Laguna and Dana Point, this little burger joint isn’t hard to miss. The parking lot is home to a display of several vintage cars that many people take photos with! I’ve seen engagement photos being shot here, that was so adorable. The outside of the building is the classic Ruby’s before it became Ruby Tuesday’s. I think it’s also one of the few remaining«Ruby’s Diner». Not sure though. They also have an outside seating area upstairs with amazing ocean views! The menu is classic, nostalgic. Burgers, fries, shakes. A breakfast menu. Yep. Good stuff. I love just about all their shakes, though the strawberry is one of my faves of course. The last few times I’ve gotten different burgers and stuff, just because I really like that they have bottomless fries. And you can even get the garlic fries($ 1 more, but you only pay it once). The Bacon avocado burger is super yummy, mostly because bacon is bae. and avocado is the side chick. And together they are bomb. I haven’t had a bad meal here, every burger has been juicy, and served quickly. Even when it’s busy, we get pretty quick service. Boyfriend likes the bbq burger and garlic fries usually. BBQ burger is actually pretty good as it isn’t loaded down with sauce. They also serve Cajun fries which have are good, but not very cajuny. I LOVE their shakes. Thick, frosty, creamy, delicious. And any extra comes out in the cup used to blend it, yum! They have your standard vanilla, chocolate, strawberry. but then they have butterfinger, reeses, m&m, brownie, and all kinds of other fun shake flavors(^_^) they’re pretty thick, so if you’re not superhungry, you can probably have a shake and fries and get full. All of the shakes are super yummy and I’m totally guilty of dipping my fries into them. don’t judge me. Honestly, I don’t think you can go wrong here since the menu is pretty easy. I’ve loved the plates I’ve tried so far. The employees are friendly. One hostess had a shitty attitude a few month back, but I haven’t seen her since then thankfully. Service is fast, and the food always comes out hot! The uniforms are cutesy and the classic Ruby’s Diner red & white dresses, which are adorable(^_^) All of our waitresses have been sweet and made sure to check in enough to get our fries and drinks refilled almost as soon as they were empty(about every 20 minutes or so!). No they don’t have rollerblades anymore, but that’s okay. I come here more for the food to get to me, not for someone to land on their butt skating to my table. The prices are good, the food is yummy and I love the views. If you’re in the area, spent a long day at Thousand Steps Beach tanning and surfing, or just want a good, classic burger — check out Ruby’s Diner. The retro vibes and ocean views make this place a no-brainer in my book(^_^)

Would zero stars if could. Came in on a cloudy monday afternoon & it was empty. Service was incredibly slow. We wanted the refillable fries so we split a classic burger. It was a tiny burger so we each finished our halves in less than 3 minutes. The portion of fries was also measly & was cleaned off in 5 minutes. After, we sat there for 15 minutes waiting for the waitress to come check to our table so we could get a refill. It was then that waitress told us that we couldn’t get a refill if we shared the burger. Yet she gave off an exasperated attitude as if we were at fault. Never coming back & warning all others about the non-refillable«refillable» fries & unfriendly service.

Great food! Their milkshake was amazing and apart from great food, there was great service! One of the best diners and makes you feel like you’re back in the 50’s!

I usually don’t look forward to having a meal when I am in Laguna… the independent local restaurants seem overpriced and pretentious, and I don’t really want to commit to an evening spent waiting for slow service. But then there’s Ruby’s. Yes, it’s a chain with a predictable menu… they serve burgers, fries and shakes. That’s what they’re known for and they do a great job of it. We went on a Monday evening about 5:30pm. Plenty of seating, no waiting. Server was at the table immediately. The shake and malt were delivered fast & frosty. Food soon followed and was hot from the kitchen. Everything was just perfect. This is a clean & dependable restaurant that serves great food at a fair price. I can’t imagine anyone being disappointed with this place.

I forgot how much I like Ruby’s until my experience here made realize it all over again! I went here on a Friday for lunch with my friend. From the outside it looked like it was very busy so we were concerned about how long it would take to get seated. To our surprise we were seated right away and our server immediately got our drinks. Once we ordered it, didn’t take very long to get our food, which happened to be delicious! I got the spicy turkey burger with jalepenos(I forget the actual name) and drank a diet vanilla and cherry coke. My friend had the cinnamon French toast breakfast. We would recommend the restaurant and the menu items we tried. It was an excellent beachside lunch. :-)

After a long day spent tanning at the beach and relentlessly trekking up the countless stairs at thousand steps beach, I was pretty hungry for some fries and a delicious shake. Rubys seemed like a no brainer. This was my first time at the establishment, but the concept seemed neat. Classic style food with classic cars and cutesy workers. We were seated immediately on a Sunday dinner time and the place was packed. Our server was quick to get to us, asking for our drink orders. Food wise: I ordered the guacamole burger as I love avocado and noticed that there was a garlic fry upgrade option for only $ 1, so why not? Took about 10 – 15 mins for it to be brought out which was okay as the shake made a good distraction. I had the chocolate chip cookie dough shake and felt kind of ripped off. It was delicious of course, but you don’t get much for $ 6. The burger was delicious and everything I could hope for and the fries, although a bit cold(probably due to the addition of garlic on top) were amazing. The garlic was sprinkled plentifully and the oil atop it sealed the deal. I wanted to try just the fries on their own(might as well take advantage of bottomless fries, right?) and they came out swiftly, perfectly crisp and hot out the fryer! With friendly and quick staff, I’d come back for some awesome garlic fries and a simple burger any day.

My blues burger was perfect. Fries came out cold but were quickly replaced with new ones. Service was excellent. So why only three stars? The place is SOFRICKINNOISY that I left with a headache.

DONOTGOHERE!!! Yeah, not returning to this one or to any Rubys ever again. It seems like every time i go all the staff seem very unhappy to be working there. This one in particular, i went there after taking a walk with my friend and we walk in and got sat down a couple booths down from this small little family not too far away. The little family and my friend and i were the only ones in there. Expecting fast, attentive service.(Just a thought being there was only two people in the whole place) Long story short, my friend and i decide pretty fast because we were pretty hungry. So we set aside our menus hoping for our server would come soon. Her and i are pretty patient people but we kept wondering why no one came by yet to even ask us what we wanted to drink or anything like that. We are looking around the kitchen and all the staff are just standing around talking. Mean while the server for the other table is bring his table shakes, he looks over at us, not telling us anything for walking over to see if we’ve been helped at all. At this point I’m kind of getting pissed. Then about 5minutes later, still no one has came to help us but the waiter for the other table brings out their burgers. And still looks over at us and doesn’t even come over to help us. We look over to what seems to look like the manager, standing there and talking to the staff and each and everyone of the staff looked over at us and didn’t come over at all. And i know this cause i made eye contact with each of them. Apon walking out they yell out after us «Have a nice day!» I have NEVER walked out on a restaurant for having such bad service in my life. Staff are not excited enough to be at their job and you DONOT feel welcomed at all.

I honestly love me some Ruby’s Diner. Bottomless fries? Yes, please? Best shakes EVER? I’ll take it! We stopped here on our way back from a kick ass weekend in San Clemente — all of us were craving a good burger and fries, and well, Ruby’s was the first thing that came to mind. The restaurant is like other Ruby’s — nostalgic — and we all loved it. I had a patty melt combo with garlic fries and a salad. They serve everything up on the same plate — interesting but in a good way. Less plates on an already crowded table. One of my boys got the chicken strips — they were yummy. My other boy got a bbq bacon burger with cajun fries. That was bomb too. We shared a double dark chocolate chip shake and HOLYCOW that thing was goooooooooooooood and more than enough to split between myself and two greedy ass boys. Service was good, restaurant was really clean, location is prime — right on PCH. We plan on spending a weekend in Laguna Beach next month, so we’ll be back!

It’s a diner. Got it? Good. Now, the good stuff. Food has never disappointed anyone I know that has come here. Very unusual for a diner. Rooftop dining = ocean view and ocean breeze. This is a place for locals but can be very busy during tourist season.
