Lafayette Brewing Co., known as «The Brew Pub» by locals, has a great reputation in the area. We went for lunch during a busy downtown event(Dickens of a Christmas) but had no problem getting a table. The food here is pretty average for a pub but the portions are full and it’s all tasty. Of course you have a choice of craft beers including those brewed on site. This is no chain brew pub; it’s not slick and corporate. It’s locally owned and operated with a real authentic and homegrown appeal. Live music often on the weekends.

By far my favorite place to get a beer in Lafayette/West Lafayette. I’m partial to the beers here as I’ve been coming here since the late 90’s. The Black Angus Oatmeal Stout is my favorite followed closely by the Eighty-Five. The Scotch Eggs are the best I’ve had any where, period. Great place to grab a pint and a bite.

In town for a wedding staying at the Holiday Inn. I highly recommend taking the 5 minute walk from the hotel to have some really good beer. We started with some scotch eggs which were a big hit. The munchers were good, too. Food was hot and delicious. A very enjoyable time with my sons.

The beer(my table covered the entire menu) is not bad at all. My socks weren’t knocked off but we were happy. Good was a touch nicer than expected pub grub. Actually the menu listings were rather impressive but none of the dishes quite executed. The food was noteworthy for design, though. House-made dressings were amazing. Service was not so great, surprising for a slow night, but staff was quite nice. The location is awesome… cute downtown area with sufficient parking. I’d go back for another visit.

Really wasn’t impressed by the food or the atmosphere. Service was pretty slow and the beer was just OK. There was a Purdue game on so I was surprised that it was so dead inside.

We stopped by on a Saturday near the end of a Purdue game — just some context. The restaurant/bar is a larger space than one would imagine walking down the street. High ceiling with relatively plain bar décor. Despite being pretty crowded, the noise level was tolerable. Not a bad spot, particularly for a casual group dinner. The food was okay for bar fare — we tried the burger, bison burger and a grilled cheese. I thought that the upcharge for slaw over chips was steep at $ 2. Despite some of the other comments, we found the prices to be reasonable. Main drawback was the service. We had 4 different people waiting on us(with no apparent connection to one another). We received no tableware and had to ask for it after our food was served — then they didn’t have any made up and we had to wait again. The meal took over an hour which seems kind of long for a couple beers, burger and grilled cheese. We might not have normally minded but we were looking to get in and out quickly. The crowd didn’t start to build up until after we were seated. Okay but we’ll check out another spot next time in town.

The only reason these guys get a 3 is Food. I know it’s a Brewpub, but… food menu needs to be better. The beers are absolutely phenom 5*+ beer rocks.

And the family said all together«BEERUS!» A warm early August Saturday afternoon found us finishing up a move to Lafayette. Time now to relax and try something new. Lafayette Brewing Co. fit the bill. The middle-of-the-block downtown location lead to a search-and-find on-street parking spot and a short walk. Always interesting in almost any college town. The front door opens into a large space with a Please Seat Yourself sign, lots of patrons and plenty of open seating options. We grabbed what looked like an Alternative Newspaper but was really the establishment menu on our way to an open four top. Typical brewhouse fare: apps, soups, salads, unique sandwiches, burgers and more. We chose to graze on three shared apps: Bavarian Beer Nuggets… balls of sauerkraut, cream cheese and spicy ground sausage rolled in panko bread crumbs and deep fried. Served with horseradish sauce. $ 8.00 Buffalo Chicken dip and tri-colored tortilla chips… shredded chicken in a light just-right-spicy-hot buffalo sauce with celery and ranch dressing. $ 8.50 and the Hummus plate. House made roasted red pepper hummus served with warmed pita bread, kalamata olives, feta cheese, fresh carrot, celery and cucumber. $ 8.50 All three selections proved to be to our liking and an agreement that they could certainly be ordered again. To enjoy alongside the apps we went with a pint of LBC Star City Lager all around. The choice brought us a medium-bodied golden brew. A well balanced, classic German lager that could be an all day fav. To sum, a nice roomy house with a relaxed family friendly vib, fine enough service, tasty pub grub fare, and a most excellent brew in the Star City Lager. Party on!

I went to LBC on a date. The craft beer is good quality. I would highly suggest the scotch eggs. I’ve never had something quite like them. It’s basically a hard boiled egg with ground sausage around it and then deep fried. I had a chicken wrap that I loved! And my boyfriend had the bison burger and gave it a thumbs up. All around great restaurant in Lafayette.

My wife and I stopped in recently, a couple hours before a concert at the theater next door. We got there around 5:30. The place was busy, but not overwhelmed. As we entered, we saw three or four empty tables in the dining area, so we figured we were good. The host, a dark-haired guy, told us there would be a half hour wait for a table. We turned around to make sure we were seeing at least three or four open tables that were visible, clean, and not marked«reserved» or anything. When we asked what was up with the empty tables, the guy just said, «There are people ahead of you. You can give us your number and we’ll text you when your table is ready.» Uh… ok? We hung around in the bar, kept an eye on the open tables, and waited for the text. We figured we’d get a pint and wait for our table. Although there were no open tables or barstools in the bar area, and a few people were standing around the bar with pints, the place was not jam packed with people. We were able to walk right up to the bar and stand there. We stood at the bar for 10 minutes without a bartender even so much as greeting us. You don’t need to roll out the red carpet, but at least look out for people who are standing there and say hello and that you’ll be right there if you’re busy. After more than 10 minutes, during which at least three different bartenders walked by multiple times without acknowledging us, my wife spoke to a bartender who stopped at the taps in front of us, but didn’t appear to notice us and did not acknowledge us. My wife was very polite: «Excuse me, I know you’re busy, we just wanted to let you know we’re here when you get a chance, etc.» The bartender — a woman with straight dirty blonde/brown hair, snapped and said, «Well, just so you know, there *are* people ahead of you.» Whoa! After probably 15 minutes of standing around in a bar that wasn’t THAT busy, followed by that kind of treatment, we decided the place wasn’t worth our time or money, so we left. We were planning to have a few pints and dinner, so I guess they didn’t want the money we were planning on spending. On our way out, guess what? The open tables were still open. Unacceptable. We went to another restaurant and had our food in front of us before this place texted us. Good luck getting money from those empty tables, Lafayette Brewing Co.

I came here for my 21st birthday before we went to the bars. Unfortunately they do not take reservations but for a group of 10 people they were able to seat us fairly fast. We all loved the beer that we got. I would recommend the flight of beer that they have. It is a good value for your money and lets you try a variety of different beers that they make at once. I have also been here for Science Talks on Thursdays sponsored by Purdue University. It is some extremely nerdy fun. They have a really nice open space upstairs that would be great to rent out for a rehearsal dinner or something of that matter. When it comes to the food, it is okay. I am vegetarian so there are limited items that I am able to get and one of those being the best item on the menu the Pesto Melt. I have suggested it to many of my friends and they have all loved it. Some of the people I have gone with have been turned off by the food choices and you can almost always bet that they are going to be out of something when you order. They were out of onion rings the last time I went and I forgot my ID. It was a rather disappointing trip needless to say. On Sunday’s they do have a Bloody Mary special. I liked the drink but my mother did not like. It was a lot spicier than what she preferred. The service is average. I have no complaints or cheers to make in that regard. If you are a students at Purdue this is a great restaurant to go with your family because it is never as crowded as everything else is on campus. I like the food here better than most on campus restaurants as well. Parking isn’t as bad as you would think being that it is downtown. I have always found a parking spot within the block.

Food is overpriced for the quality, I’m disappointed every time I go there. When I go out to eat I don’t like to get things that look and taste like something I could have made in my own kitchen for a fraction of the price and time. Unfortunately this is how I feel about every item on their menu. Fish and chips would be good but the breading is too heavy. Nothing special about the burgers or other items either. If you want beer then it’s okay but anything else I think is a waste of money.

I came here with five colleagues and was surprised at how big the place was. The server told us they brew their own beers and it was evident as we selected a table across from the tanks. The menus are in the form of newspapers, and I thought it was amusing how we all looked like we were reading the paper around the table, when we were really surveying all the food options. Like the other place we visited in town, I found the menu to be eclectic and hard to identify the overall cuisine. I ordered the Chicken Meltdown for $ 9.25. Despite the menu saying it was served on jalapeño cornbread, I found it more to be like a mild version of Texas toast with no spicy flavor at all. However, the blackened chicken, applewood smoked bacon, smoked gouda cheese and chipotle-stout bbq sauce made up for it. It was a tasty sandwich! I also liked the brewpub chips that was served with it with its crunchiness foiling the soft chicken and bread. My personal complaint was the chips were too salty but I don’t add salt to anything so the flavor is more noticeable when I dine out. One down side overall to both places I went to for dinner in Lafayette is the slowness of everything — from taking orders to receiving food to getting a check and paying. Maybe there was only one server at each place, but considering how big they both were and how well attended, I would think service would be more efficient.

When I’m visiting my wonderful alma mater that is Purdue and my mom is looking for a sit down restaurant that everyone will like with reasonable prices, we always end up at Lafayette Brewing Company. I’ve liked everything I’ve had there: bison burger, club sandwich, cheddar ale soup, etc. We always leave happy. This past trip, I wasn’t super hungry so I opted for a crock of the cheddar ale soup, which was the perfect side and the perfect food for the fall weather. Our service was a little slow this last time around, but I didn’t really mind since I was in no rush. The place is very family friendly– lots of kids and space for them to move around if need be. It’s a very casual environment. I can’t wait to visit Purdue again and enjoy another meal at LBC!

The food always takes forever. The staff is ok. The prices are high for what you end up getting. The food is never as good as you would expect from its description. Today it was the Cheddar Ale Soup and Chicken Meltdown. The soup is described as «A house specialty… a savory blend of our own house ale, cheddar cheese, andouille sausage, diced potatoes and a medley of vegetables.» They aren’t kidding with that description. There was no seasoning. No salt, no pepper, no nothing. It was terrible. I couldn’t add enough salt or pepper to make it taste like anything. Worthless. The Chicken meltdown is supposedly«Blackened chicken, applewood smoked bacon, smoked gouda cheese and chipotle-stout bbq sauce grilled between slices of jalapeño cornbread. «The chicken was lightly seasoned, but far from blackened. I would call it lightly sauteed. The sauce was the best part, but too scarce. Jalapeño corn bread is a misnomer — It was bread with a touch of corn meal involved, and no spice whatsoever. My kids ate free since it was Sunday, but their meals of pepperoni pizza, fruit and tortilla chips were no better than a high school cafeteria. They do have one of the nicest coloring page/menus for kids I’ve seen at any restaurant. Overall I don’t like going here, I don’t know why I’ve been here several times already, but that’s that. LBC is OVER.

This place needs an update. Poor décor. Poor Lighting. On a date one Saturday night, they didn’t even have a some of the their flagship beers to order. French Onion, Soup, Cheesy Potato Munchers, Armenian Chicken — All decent, but not all that memorable.

There are few things better than gathering in a brewpub to enjoy good company and good craft beer. When I’m in Lafayette visiting family, this is my go-to when contemplating our night out. I’ve been here a few times and they have all been great experiences. This is some of the best craft beer I’ve ever had. Really. The quality is so apparent and the flavor-notes are deep and complex — a beer connoisseur will feel right at home at LBC. The staff also does an excellent job of describing the beers to those less versed beer enthusiasts so you don’t end up with a bad taste in your mouth. The menu is also pretty solid, plenty of burger and wrap options with homemade fries and kettle chips. The Blue Buffalo Chicken soup is an excellent choice, if available — it’s really flavorful on the front end with plenty of kick on the back for that signature buffalo taste. Prices are pretty good and the service is solid. You’ll be hard-pressed to find better beer in Lafayette. Enough said.

Stick wit da burgers! The problem with this place is it is a brew pub with better food than beer. We’ve sample beer here 3 times now and I suppose we are gluttons for bad beer because we haven’t liked the brews any of those times. The food is pretty good though! I mean it’s standard fare for pub food, but pretty good overall. It’s just that I don’t think I would come here just for the food. The allure of the brew pub idea is that I kill two birds with one stone and get good food and drink in the same spot. But the beer here ruins it for me. The last time it seemed as though the temperature was not quite right and the wheat tasted a little on the flat side to me(bottom of the keg?). At any rate, the ambiance is nice and they have a great location. I’d stick wit da burgers and get your beer elsewhere. The 3 stars is based on the food only while the beer gets a 1.5 or a 2, depending on what day you go.

Been here once or twice and it’s nothing special. The food isn’t that great. It’s all expensive from the food to the beer. The good thing is the beer is decent and worth stopping in for at least. The décor and the way the place is set up is nice. If they overhauled their menu and were able to produce more memorable food items it would receive much better praise especially for the money you spend here.

I don’t know why I haven’t reviewed LBC earlier! This used to be one of my favorite casual date spots in Lafayette. Excellent beers, good prices and a menu that’s a notch or two above your standard bar food. On my most recent trip, the guys I was with decided to order the flight. The waitress suggested sharing it between to the two of them because«it’s a lot of beer», but they decided to each get their own. They left pretty tipsy because the flight includes large samples of many different beers. It was a great way to try most of their brews. I’d recommend ordering the flight(not sure if it was on the menu or not) if you’re a first time visitor. All in all: good food, good prices and great beer. What else are you looking for in a local establishment?
