Great portions, great prices, and fast service every time I go. The husband and wife who run the restaurant are always very friendly. A great spot to do business lunches in old-town La Verne next to the University Of La Verne!

Walked up, opened the door and turned around and left. The place actually looks like you would probably leave with stomach issue, unclean pillow cases in the chairs. Eat here at your own risk

Walking down the street window shopping for a new restaurant and take a peek-a-boo through the window to find last night’s dirty dishes and empty beer bottles on the counter. To top it off today is Sunday, and they are closed, which tells me those dirties will be sitting there until tomorrow. Still wanna eat here?

It’s a nice environment but the old lady was getting crazy on this guy who was just grabbing a bit more siracha sauce. I told the lady that I was getting my food to go but I ended up eat at the restaurant. Tell me why this lady grabs the paper mat she has layed out on the table… mind you I’m eating and talking to my friend as she is doing this. She doesn’t say excuse me… NOTHING! Then she asked me and my friend to move to a smaller table since this other lady who was there was having more people join her so she need more space. Oh and there were two other tables available for her. HORRIBLECUSTOMERSERVICE! the food was ok but I’ve had better. NEVERGOINGBACK!

3.5 stars. Small restaurant across ULV. They have a Togo special which is chicken bowl(4.50+tax) and salmon bowl(4.95+tax). It tastes okay. I think I’ll be coming here often because it’s convenient for me.

I’ve come twice at lunch. I got the chicken bowl to go special($ 4.50) the first, and the salmon bowl to go($ 4.95) the second. These combos are well worth the price! You get rice, the protein with a light teriyaki sauce, 2 pieces of California roll sushi, and potato salad. The potato salad tastes like cold mashed potatoes with cold veggies mixed in, but it’s surprisingly pretty good. I haven’t had to wait yet, which is a huge plus between classes. The food was hot and really good. I prefer this combo over Waba Grill in a heartbeat!

It’s a small, pretty restaurant owned by a family. The wife is super nice and service is always wonderful. Their salmon lemon box roll is to die for. Lots of flavor, fresh salmon, lemon sauce… so so so delicious.

Decent menu but definitely not the apt for sushi snobs. I usually eat next door but I figured I’d try it out. The service was very fast and the hostess was kind and patient with all my questions. Mind you, I ask a lot of questions when I dine somewhere for the first time so I appreciated her patience. I settled on ordering about three different rolls for to-go and I wish I had dined in. I could taste the potential but I feel like the carryout quality was what I got. 6⁄10. My order was very quick to come to me in a total of 8 – 10 minutes. In that time I peeped at the patrons dishes and they looked better than what I received but only by a little. It did smell pretty good, I must admit. About a 7⁄10. Overall, it’s alriiiight. Nothing special that you couldn’t find elsewhere. Outdoor dining area has pretty dark wood at least.

«Closed come back latter» that is our greeting and should have told me not to come back, but the person that never looked me in the eye may be having a bad day so the Boss and I went back two days later after looking up service times. Mistake number one, upon entering we are greeted to a angry person using vulgarities as a means to entertain, this went on throughout service, If I were to put out on my patio a frozen dinner for six days then sat down at one of the broken tables in this place It would be better than what we were served. They have given up and need to go out of business no one should have to go through this and pay for it at the end, walking out to someone with a cartoon voice singing about her Coo%#@! was not needed at this time. I give Aoki Japanese Restaurant nothing but this, «Retire ASAP».

We almost did come in. The plant bottles from the outside made us want to run lol The sushi was so fresh and soft :) I’m glad we came around because every bite was well enjoyed :) The service was great. it’s a small place ran by what looks to be a husband & wife. We will be back for more. Pay no mind to the small bathroom lol.

A Japaneses sushi restaurant with a Korean flair for a masterpiece presentation. Once you get to know Mike, the owner and head chef, there are no limits to the different types of Sushi you can get. If there is something you don’t see on the menu, just ask and he will put it together if you know what it is you want. In fact there are many great items on his menu that I don’t see anywhere else, like his Salmon tostada’s or his asparagus sticks(never thought I would like anything like this). I have been going to Aoki for several years and haven’t been disappointed yet. One of my favorite cut rolls is the Super Mario. It’s a spicy(good kick) variation of another roll that is sure to light up those taste buds. His wife, Mickie is an excellent host and I personally have never had to wait beyond what is reasonable for anything I ask for. I might sound like the poster child here, but my wife and I do try other sushi restaurants and always end up coming back to Aoki for the personal attention and good customer service we get.

I come here all the time but haven’t written a review yet for some reason. I usually get the lunch special C vegetable chicken bowl but decided to try the 3 combination as I had not eaten breakfast that day. Came in on with a ULV classmate on a Tuesday afternoon. First off, place was packed so I thought can’t go wrong ordering something else here. The waitress Miki was super friendly in seating us. I ordered the three combination with gyoza, tempura, and chicken cutlet. My friend ordered the lunch special A, which was a better deal considering it comes with 5 pieces of veggie tempura, chicken teriyaki, and 4 pieces of california rolls, white rice and mashed potatoes for $ 6.95. My $ 10.503 item bento box was more than filling. The tempura was on point, really crispy and fresh(with amazingly tasty dipping sauce). The chicken cutlet was crispy as well, and had a lot more meat than I thought I would get with a bento box. I had tried the gyoza before and knew that they were amazing, and I was not disappointed in the veggie and meat filled deliciousness served extra crispy. I was so full after devouring the items that I couldnt eat half my rice. I have also tried the crunch roll, albacore delight, and salmon lemon box. I am not a great fan of raw fish, but these rolls have made me optimistic about trying more sushi. Definitely returning at least a few times a week.

I have been going to this restaurant for over a year now. The lady working here is very friendly and very nice. One time she recommended amaebi sushi which is shrimp sushi. And now that became my favorite. I strongly disagree with a reviewer who talked bad about the service. Seating in a big table with to go box seems inappropriate e manner to me. I guess some customers can be very rude. Anyways I gave 5stars cuz the food and service are great. Sushi tastes fresh and good. Appetizers are unlike other restaurants. My personal favorite is Asparagus sticks! Please do try them because they are so good. The restaurant is own by married couple. They are so cute and nice :) I recommend this place for family gatherings and big party.

Being brought up in a peruvian home with cuban ancestry and a flare for the japanese culture, I find myself asking the question of life… Where do I belong in La Verne. Well, here it is with Mike the sushi chef. In this quaint little town tucked away in a corner of their downtown is the freshest sushi. Their specialty was the salmon, tuna and eel. The sweet shrimp were big, lightly battered and crispy yumminess. I had this dish called the 3 amigos with salmon, tuna and ummmmm… I had extra saki and beer I forget the third, but it was dipped with heavens kiss, a little sauce that was to die for. Can’t wait to go back and get a taste of fresh la verne japanese food!

This place is a good price but the only thing that is really good is their to-go lunch bowl. The salmon lunch bowl is my favorite and is perfectly grilled but they give you very salty cabbage with it(I ask for it without) and it comes with California rolls that taste pretty bad. My girlfriend and I always end up throwing them away. All in all we throw away half the meal but still good for the $ 6 price.

I’m just going to be honest. This place had one of the worst services experiences I’ve ever had at a sushi restaurant. I came in the area for a conference at ULV and we had a lunch break. We were a group of 6 and we were pretty hungry. We all ordered at the same time and we waited for 30 minutes. I had to ask for water 5 times until I got it. I also had to ask for eel sauce 3 times. The sushi was mediocre. I ordered the lunch special and the rice was hard and dry I could barely chew it. My friends got their order 20 minutes later and the table next to us even got the wrong order. No smiles, no have a nice day or checking in on us. Nothing. Not happy with this place. Probably never coming back here again.

I have been coming to this restaurant since 2003, and the food and service have always been spectacular. It’s sad that a lot of posters gave them just 1 or 2 stars without really explaining themselves. Sometimes if you have a language barrier or a thick accent(which the owners do) it can affect communication. But it doesn’t mean they are rude, it doesn’t mean that they do not care, all it means that there’s a small possibility that they may have misunderstood your concern. If you perhaps were patient enough to explain your needs, then you would see that all this couple wants is to serve people good food. The chef, Mike, was trained in Japan, and Micky, the server, was educated there as well. All the food they serve is authentic. They take a lot of pride in what they do, which is why the food is not rushed. It is plated very carefully. They also pay attention to what their customers need or like. For example, they noticed that I love the yama gobo(marinated carrots) so they tend to put a lot of those as garnish on my plate. They dumped them on my dishes especially when I was pregnant a few years ago! The fish is fresh and chosen by them daily. The rolls are original. One of them was made«omakase» for us by Mike. He calls it the summer roll. It’s difficult to make because instead of seaweed wrap, he cores a whole cucumber and uses that to wrap the fish in. It is delicious. Their hamachi is top notch, and the jumbo eel roll is my husband’s favorite. Their bento boxes(2 entrée or 3 entrée combo deal) are perfect for when you are on a budget. You get soup, rice, a veggie salad, mashed potatoes, and you can order 2 other entrees or 3, depending on how hungry you are. :) I always end up taking home leftovers because of how full I get. Whenever I go there with my child and hubby, I have no doubt that I will feel like I am with family. Micky pulls out a mango juice for my son because that is his favorite thing to drink there, and almost always, Micky knows to anticipate my spider roll order since it is my absolute favorite. I love this restaurant!
