Wow, what to say about this little hole-in-the-wall that’s actually a market that also happens to sell some really good Mexican food? I would never have checked it out except that I got a flyer about a year ago while parked at the Washington Mutual that obscures this place from sight on Glendora. While reading it, my 6th sense gave a tingle and I knew I had to go. Inside are some shelves full of stuff, refrigerated section for drinks, a meat counter, a space to make some very yummy food, and a few tables. You can probably get anything you could want to cobble a meal together… so let’s get started. First time, I tried the chilaquiles. A little spicy, topped w/onions, cilantro, and cheese, w/beans(OMG – THIS is what refried beans are supposed to taste like!) and rice(damn good, too!) on the side. Second time, chilaquiles again(though I think they’d taken them off the menu board). Still spicy, still good, but the chips were a little soggier than I like this time around. Third time, expanded into burritos b/c I was craving a good one, and I figured that if the beans and rice were that good, how bad could the meat be? Hell, even if it WERE bad, would I care? Probably not. The burrito I got was HUGE – stuffed to the gills w/beans, rice, onions, cilantro, salsa roja and some fine carne asada. I’m thinking it was over a pound of food – and none of that«put in a bunch of filler and cheap out on the meat» stuff, either – there was a ton of EVERYTHING in there! Latest foray: last night. Again w/the carne asada burrito – and this time, the nice lady who’s always there(and who speaks very little English, so come prepared to order in Spanish) suggested another kind of salsa than I usually order(«Pica. Roja no pica,» she said – and if only I knew that«pica» meant face-burning spicy, I’d’ve known what I was in for). Still, it was a fantastic burrito – awesomely big(Steve and I could’ve split it and each been super-full, if he weren’t still chili-shy after the last Chili King run-in), and so good I kept going back for more, even though my lips were on fire. My mom had an al pastor burrito and it was pretty damn good, too – greasy as it should be and very flavorful. If you want some serious homestyle Mexican food, you’ve got to try this place out… you won’t be sorry.

Great variety of Mexican dishes mostly traditional fare. The Burritos are HUGE! You’d surely be able to split one between two people. What really impressed me was the quality of the meats. Not too surprised because it IS a meat market after all! Last time we visited this place we ordered a Lengua Burrito, Chorizo Burrito, and Carne Asada Tacos. Plenty of meat in each dish and the rice and beans are easily the best around. Their rice and beans easily beats most of the sit-down mexican food places in the area. Try this place! You’ll be pleasantly surprised!
