**Review is for those who love the cuisine from New Mexico, which is way different from Tex Mex and Mexican food from Arizona and New Mexico. I gave«The Green Chile» another try, they are located right next door to my Dentist. I was running late and had not taken anything out to cook for dinner. So I thought, «What the heck, I will try one more time.» Since«The Green Chile» Resturant advertises that they serve the flavor profiles of New Mexico it leads to some confusion and perhaps unfair comparisons. My Mom is a die hard old timey cook from New Mexico so it is hard to compete with Mom’s or Grandma’s cooking. I think where some of the the Unilocalers, as myself, had drothers about this resturant is we were comparing the green chile and red chile dishes served in New Mexico to what is served in this resturant. It is like when people compare Southern or Creole food from a local resturant to what they are served at their kin folks dinner tables. Just does not compare and we have to know that from the get go! Let me tell you folks, it is kind of difficult to learn and copy the recipes from New Mexico because the residents of New Mexico use actual chile grown in the area which tastes nothing like chile from California, Mexico, Thailand and etc. Most New Mexicans are a bit OCD and purists when it comes to their chile and flavor profiles from New Mexico.(Smart and Final carries dried red New Mexico chile pods, make according to directions on the package but use chicken broth instead of water to blend, adding fresh garlic and oregano. The green chile we buy at Albertson’s in August by the sack, freezing enough for a year’s worth of meals or my Uncle drives a truck load from Hatch when it is harvest time.) If one orders off the Green Chile menu not expecting Momma’s, Granny’s or Auntie’s cooking… Well the food served at this resturant is pretty darn good. The flavors are interesting and the ingredients tasted fresh. I ordered the red enchiladas because my Mom loves them. She ate every bit of her order after adding a fresh fried egg on top when I got them home. She agreed the enchiladas tasted better than the last time I had ordered them. I had the stuffed sopapilla. It was too thick for my liking, but it had potential.(To be fair I cannot eat bread or thick pastry like foods because of tummy issues) I will return to «The Green Chile» to try more on their menu. The main thing is the resturant is very clean, the woman who took my order was friendly and cheerful. The servings are generous and worth the price paid…

I have eaten at Green Chile numerous times and at both locations and loved it every time. My co-workers and I decided to have a Green Chile lunch date. We decided to try their delivery service since it was available. We ordered meals for 7 people. Only 2 of them were simple and ordered as the menu described. The other 5 had none of this or add that or some other variation. We also ordered the Green Chile dip and a full order of sopapillas with honey. Most of my co-workers had never been here so I made sure to order my favorite appetizer and dessert for them to try. The delivery service was outstanding! I was quoted 45 minutes to an hour and we received the order in 40 minutes. Every order was exactly as requested, and I am here to tell you it was not an easy order! We ordered A Green Chile Pork Wet Burrito, Chicken Enchilada Stack, Spicy Ground Beef Picadillo Enchilada Stack, Chicken Bowl, Flautas and a Ground Beef Green Chile and Potato Wet Burrito. Everybody enjoyed their food. It was as good as another co-worker and I had described. Moral of the story… A+ for food, A+ for delivery and A+ for Service! BTW…Love the new website!!!

The customer service is fantastic. The food is not good though. It’s okay but not good. It fills you up a lot. I’d suggest getting more rice than beans. Beans aren’t good. The sopapillos are huge. It’s a deep fried burrito. Enchiladas aren’t as good as they look on the picture. I tried it with the egg it was 1 $ extra. My mom could make better ones.

The menudo blows. I asked for not a whole lot of meat and just mainly hominy they brought me back a bowl of nothing but meat absolutely no hominy in it, I was bummed out and it tasted like somebody poured a gallon of water in the pot it had absolutely no flavor it was very bland, on top of that it was not hot at all… not going to bother going back.

Been living in la Mirada for 3 years now and this was my first time here and it defiantly won’t be my last. Customer service is amazing and the food is delicious. And the waiter def made sure we would come back by giving us samples of all the meats for taco Tuesday next week. A+++ everything

Tried this place tonight on a whim after seeing an ad in a community guide. Boy am I glad we did! We have 4 kids, so going out to eat is a rarity in our lives. The service was INCREDIBLE. Our waitress was amazing, even suggesting we split our kids meals instead of getting them their each mean-that alone is how you build a customer base. The kids got quesadillas and even our pickiest eater devoured it. The fries are delicious, I wish I knew the seasoning they used. I got a grilled chicken sopapilla with green sauce on top– SOGOOD. The chicken itself had really good flavor and the sauce was perfectly tangy. Husband got the steak sopapilla with red sauce and he left an empty plate. While we were leaving, the exceptional waitress even suggested we come back on Mondays when kids eat free. We will definitely be back!

If you are looking for AUTHENTIC Mexican food this is not the place. I am really surprised that this place had so many good reviews. I tried this place today for the first time and will most definitely NOT be back. The food is flavorless! The service was ok, it was a little slow considering there were only 2 other tables with people besides us. P.s I tried the pork Chile Verde plate.

This place is okay, could be Cleaner. Service is average. I ordered the stuffed chicken sopapilla-was ok, little dry. I think last time I had the chile verde one and that one was better.

First time here and it will definitely be a new favorite spot! Great customer service, and very helpful when it comes to menu decisions. Ordered takeout and got three entrees: –steak sopapilla was amazing! The crust is flaky and tasty, meat was flavorful –chicken bowl(no beans or cabbage) i did enjoy my bowl however my chicken was dry and because it was sitting waiting for our other orders to be finished it was cold once I was able to eat it. Besides that the flavors and spices were on point! The chicken was seasoned to perfection. –pork chimichanga, not sure if it’s technically on the menu, but they made it anyways and it was great! Meat again seasoned perfectly, as well as the beans and the portion is large. Overall I HIGHLY recommend! Lived in La Mirada for 15 years, I’m sad I didn’t discover this sooner

This place is your typical hole in the wall spot, but much more amazing. Small & quaint with typical Spanish décor. I’ve never had anything here I didn’t enjoy! Although we’ve only been by for lunch & early dinner. They have happy hour specials M-F, 3 – 6 I believe(don’t quote me), and 2TV’s to enjoy the games on. Do your self the favor and leave room for the dessert sopapilla’s(hope I spelled it write), you’ll be happy with any flavor so just try a new one each time. Less busy excellent service, more of a crowd it goes down just a notch. Either way you’re taken care of by the friendly staff.

Friendly greeting from staff! Wow. Flavors were great and still don’t know why I didn’t try this place sooner? I didn’t get there famously known items maybe my fault but I did have nachos and the flavor was great! 4 star due to pricing only!

Groupon deal! Lame you can only use 1 at a time so you have to come back again. Plenty of parking. Service is good. Food take awhile to come out, busy or empty. Hot salsa is the best. Sopapilla — complementary — Warm and delicious with honey. A little oily. Great snack to start the meal. Pork Green Chile Sopapilla — $ 7.25 — Reminded me a of a chimichanga. Pork was ok, red beef was better. The bean to meat ratio is bad. Each bite was like bean mush with a little pork. Red Beef Fries — $ 7.50 — Huge and heavy portion. Red beef is so good! Tender and flavorful. Needs more green salsa and cheese, the fries get a bit bland without it. Spicy Green Chilaquiles — $ 7.25 — Good mix of egg, cheese, and salsa. Taste buds get bored after a few bites. Beans were good. Red Beef and Egg Burrito — $ 7.25 — One of the best breakfast burritos I have had. Love this Red beef with eggs. Got the bean on the side and the burrito was still huge.

Mmmmmmmmmmmmmm When someone asks me, «What’s your favorite Mexican dish?» I say anything with chili verde and or green sauce!!! I probably would have never known about this place if it weren’t for Roy B’s review popping up on the main page, I would have never known about this place for a VERY long time!!! I immediately told Princess Gigi about it and her and I planned a dinner to go. It worked out well because Roy came along and the surfer and I rolled up so it was a platonic double date. When we walked in, it was like a scene a movie when strangers from out of town walk in and all of a sudden the record player stops and everyone stares LOL. It was hilarious. They never seen a group like us break bread before ahahahaahahaha. Service was very friendly so that’s all that matters. IDGAF about the ignorant patrons. Since Gigi and I read the menu prior to coming in and Roy B. has been there already, we pretty much knew what we wanted. Surfer dude didn’t need much time either since I sold him on the Sopapilla. We ordered green chile beef taco, green chile enchilada stack, green chile pork wet sopapilla, red enchilada stack and honey sopapillas for dessert. I had everything detailed written and I lost it all due to the refresh page. I don’t feel like retyping everything in detail GRRRRRRR. I will say EVERYTHING we had was great. Their food is on the heavy side BUT not greasy at all. I’ve gone a second time with my mother and she enjoyed it. She wishes she got the burrito wet and I wish my sopapilla was that way as well. So the waitress this last time didn’t give us that option because we assumed the green chile and sopapillas came wet. So second visit was a little disappointing :(My mom fell in love with the fries as much as I did. Oh and their beef taquitos are addicting! I also took a pint of chile verde pork home and it went so well with my breakfast scramble the next day I will most definitely come back!

A burger at a Mexican restaurant, Really? YES, REALLY. I saw a few of my Unilocal buddies post 5 star reviews for this place. That good? Really? I had to find out for myself. What did I find out, Trust your friends, they have your back. WOW! I read a few reviews and I went with the Green Chile Burger w/Loaded Fries — It pays to read some reviews. That GC Burger was so Good! The burger patty was cooked perfect(medium) and it was very tasty by itself. The green chile was YUM. That’s why they named their restaurant after it. Flavors were poppin and doing a cha cha with my taste buds. The loaded fries was topped with bacon bits, cheese, jalapenos and sour cream. Anything with bacon makes anything better to me and this was no exception. Yum Yum! Pork Green Chile Sopapillas — This looks like a big empanada. The bread and pork doused in that green chile was delicious. I’m not a fan of beans, it works here. But I’d like to try it sans the beans next time. Taquitos — I think they were good. You get 3 to an order and between my son and wife, they scarfed it before I could even taste one. Yes, they were GOOD! hahaha. Service was friendly and accommodating. Price was very reasonable. Big thanks to Gigi M, Roy B, Chris D, Steven C & Shawna C for a good recommendation. I trust these folks and they certainly know what good eats is. I usually don’t order burgers, specially at a Mexican restaurant. But, I will when I’m here. DELICIOUS! 2015 Review #104

Only restaurant in OC I knew of that served cuisine from the state of New Mexico was Anita’s in Fullerton and sadly they went out of business a few years ago. My wife had some out of town family staying in a hotel in La Mirada which caused me to bookmark some restaurants in that town, Green Chile being one of them. Sadly they picked Elephant Bar to eat at :-P After Roy’s ROTD(and of course Gigi’s review) I knew I had to try this place. When I think of New Mexico I think of two things. Green chilies and Sopapillas so I knew I was going to order a combo of the two. A sopapilla is like a doughnut empanada. You can eat them as an appetizer, an entrée, or a dessert. Even better make a 3 course meal of them! To start we had a basket of fresh sopapillas which you drizzle with honey. Sooooo good. We also got their«Green chile dip» which is diced up New Mexico green chile, cream cheese, and sharp cheddar cheese served with chips. You’ll definitely be raising up your HDL levels by consuming this cheese packed dip but it’s worth it. For my entrée I had the sopapilla stuffed with pork in green chile sauce, beans, and cheese smothered with green chile sauce. Pork is melt in your mouth tender and the green chile sauce really had a great flavor. Everything is made here from scratch per the owner and you could tell. Donna had the breakfast sopapilla stuffed with scrambled eggs, ground beef, green chile, potato, beans, and cheese. She had it smothered«Christmas Style» which is both red and green sauce. Both of felt like we were going to explode from the amount of food we were consuming. Neither one of us could eat dinner that night. My wife and I really loved the food and service here and can’t wait to come back.

Queen A suggested this place, saw Roy’s review, saw the food porn — fries loaded with a bunch of good stuff, sopa what??? Ok, game on, let’s do this!!! Wait, it’s outside of my usual radius, is it safe enough to park my new ride so it doesn’t get dinged up and scratched … Aaah, stressin’ … And damn, it’s been hot, there better be A/C … It was perfect! Plenty of parking, no car dings(even with a big ass white truck pulling up next to me! Of all the f*n spaces available, really?!! lol!) and the best part … A/C!!! Glad it was spacious and comfy, thought it was going to be a total hole in the wall shack or something. Ya, the 4 of us stuck out like a sore thumb but we were treated like VIPs, maybe cuz we were all(¾ of us) snapping pix like crazy. They were sweet and let us sit anywhere we wanted, service was extended with a smile and they kept checking on us. Ya, we were the loudest bunch there but they loved us! Full service, baby! Food was awesome, no doubt! Those loaded green chile fries with pork is a total MUST!!! Still dreaming about them! I want more of everything!!! Will definitely return!!! Please consider opening in OC so I don’t have to drive so far, thnx!!!

Stashed away in the middle of an older strip mall sits the Green Chile(GC). How this place missed my radar escapes me. But after I saw Bob T bookmark it I knew I needed to give the GC a try. I have now made several pilgrimages to The Green Chile and loved them all. More to follow. Upon entry the first time I was happily greeted and seated with a view of the Dodger game(GC promotes Los Doyers). I was also quickly greeted with a basket of warm chips and some tasty kickin’ green salsa(had a little heat too) that I consumed at lightening speed. And after a lil chit chat with the waitress who is the niece of the two sister owners, She also introduced me to her grandmother who’s GC recipe is the staple here. I was ready to order, I was here for green chile and a cold beer. Starters was a half order of green chile fries. GETTHESE! Fries loaded with green chile and cheese make for a hearty appetizer or you could make a meal out of them! My entrée was a green chile filled burrito with more GC on top. GC got this one right. A tasty southwest favorite. Loved every bite! I made a second trip a few days later with 2 of my kids who generally dislike anything south of the border but all loved it too. More GC fries, so tasty! This time I had a green chile plate. So freakin good! Recommended! Daughter had a kids meal burger. Nothing special but works for the picky young eater. She ate it like a starving coyote. Son had the GC burger Lucky for me my son wasn’t that hungry and saved me a couple bites. A tasty seasoned, handmade patty topped with slices of hatch chiles, cheese and veggies. Damn tasty, I’d order it again for sure! Desert Honey filled sopapillas A tex-mex favorite. Love em’. Brownie sundae My 70lb daughter did not share this giant desert with me :-(and wolfed down the whole thing! The GC is a true family run business that cares about what it does and it shows. From the genuine hospitality and how they make you feel at home. To the clean well run establishment and the wonderful food. Prices are low too. Its all good here. Unilocal check in offer $ 5 off $ 25.00 Give Green Chile a try and thank me later. Try the chicken enchilada stack. its a New Mexico specialty your sure to love. Toss an egg on top for more fun. The stuffed sopapillas are some tasty vittles as well! To say I’m a Green Chile lover is an understatement. My love for green chili goes back to my childhood where pork green chili stew was a staple food. My grandmas was the best! Even to this day I roast Hatch, Anaheim and Mira Sol chilies to make my own pork green chili several times a year.
I order fresh hatch from NM. And have a friend who sends me many pounds of Mira Sol Chilies from my hometown in CO, and on a recent trip to Southern CO half of my meals were chile based. I can’t get enough of that good stuff. I’m a chile-head no doubt about it and you bet I’ll be back again to try more of that green chile goodness!

Wow… wow…wow! Their Green Chile Cheeseburger is beyond juicy and amazing with every bite. The thing is pretty massive for someone like me who eats kids meals. Lol. Their Green Chile ranch is SUPER tasty too. I like the little kick of chile flavor… went so well with my fries. Customer service is also top notch! You can tell they love taking care of their customers here.

Wow! Delicious is what I will say!(Whether you agree with me or not!) My husband had two Groupons for this place. We were looking for something new to try and he mentioned this place. I was not really in the mood for anything really, but I went with it. This place seems to be fairly new and has replaced a previous business, in a plaza that seems like it does not really stand out. Let’s get the name out there because this place is great! Upon arriving, we were told to sit anywhere we would like. The waiter asked if we were first timers. He explained the menu and their popular items. They are most known for their sopapillas. I had no idea what a sopapilla was, but I went planning to get it because I wanted to try something different, and they are known for it. I guess to me it reminds me of a calzone, with a sope like texture. Or, maybe stuffed like a quesadilla with a sope, making it a sopapilla. He explained that their most popular sopapillas are the pork with green chili, ground beef with green chili and potato, and the ground beef with red chili. The red chili was his favorite. Of course my first question was if it was spicy. He said none of it was and that the owner liked to appease everyone. I assume they would make it spicier on request for those that love it? I’m not sure. I don’t remember. He even brought me a sample of the pork and green chili in a cup which was really nice of him. Nope, not spicy! After a little debating, I went with the ground beef with green chili and potato. My husband ordered the chicken fajitas. The sopapillas also come with cheese and beans, which they will get your approval when you order it. At least he asked me. They brought out a basket of chips and salsa which we enjoyed while waiting. One thing I really liked about this place is that their prices seem to be lower than most, and the portions are quite large! My husband’s fajitas arrived. The chicken slices were long, and their homemade flour tortillas were huge. I liked the fact that they were homemade, but my husband said they seemed a little too thick. My sopapilla took a bit longer, but it arrived and it was huge! It also came with a small salad on the side. Yum!!! I loved it!!! We were also checked on and refills were taken care of. It was quite funny when he came up asking if we were ready for boxes. I can see why they just expect to have to do that. I just ate what I could and left the outer crust out since I could not finish. This was delicious and I am ready to come back. I am a fan and would love to try their other sopapillas as well as many of their other dishes.
