Ok food if you’re really hungry. Awful service. Why engage in restaurant service if you can barely say«hi» to the customers. The food was bland and tasteless, the fries were from frozen and were awful. Waste of time and money.

Update: now they not only charge for the pico de gallo, but they stopped putting free tortilla chips out… so you have to pay $ 1.35 for a small bag of chips and a lot more for any quantity of pico de gallo. It’s a strange business choice… we stopped going very often when they started charging for the pico de gallo, and now – having learned yesterday that they’re now charging for chips also, we’ve probably made our last trip there.

Had a great pastor burrito — very lean pork but still full of flavor and not dripping a ton of grease. This was a really pleasant surprise and is some of the better pastor I have had(my fave) and also a decent deal at $ 6.25. What is one of the more offensive and downright criminal acts performed here is their«guacamole» offering which is some sketchy purée that I am fairly certain involves mayonnaise. It’s culturally offensive. I’ll be back, but the guac here is a travesty. Seriously embarrassing. Abuelas rolling over, all that stuff. And I’m WHITE! Owners — just raise your prices 50 cents and do it right.

This was almost the worst Mexican food I’ve ever had. The chili relleno didn’t look like anything I’ve ever eaten. This chips were dripping in grease and the green salsa had been watered down. Also, at $ 24 for two plates it was a bit over priced. This is why I love In N Out. The food is cheap, fast, and delicious. No more Mexican for me.

I am a local, that lives walking distance to this taco shop, a staple in my family’s weekly meal plan. Twice in the last 2 weeks I have gone at 7:30, and have been told they are close. I ask what time they close, they said 8:00. I asked him what time it was, he said 7:35. There were people in the restaurant both times finishing their meals. But they would not take an order. I will NOT return to here ever again. Too, bad, we eat taco shop at least once a week.

Food was mediocre and over priced. The free chips helped but didn’t seal the deal. And the guy behind the counter was rude and not helpful at all. won’t be coming back here again.

Awful! If you like expensive bland tasteless Mexican food in minuscule portions, this is the place for you. No free chips, those were $ 3. The«Salsa Bar» was just that; Salsa. No carrots, peppers, radishes… just Salsa. Just say no and keep moving. There’s plenty of places close by that serve good food. Oh, all the flies buzzing about and landing on our food were a bonus.

It should be called El Perro Mexican Food, cause WOOF! This place is nasty. We ordered carne asada tacos and pollo asada tacos. What we received were tortillas with nasty meat and canned guacamole slapped on top. There was little flavor. The meat was not seared. The chicken had bones in it. The guac was disgusting. We ate half our food and bounced. You should not eat this anywhere, but especially in Southern California it’s offensive to waste your money on Mexican food this bad. Don’t do it.

This place has a nice organized menu with lots of selections. There is outside seating and nice amount inside as well. I ordered a shredded chicken quesadilla that was supposed to contain red peppers and such. When I got it(in a takeout container) it was very soupy and soft, less crispy and toasted than I expected. Also lacking the additional peppers promised. That being said, I was starving and it satisfied my hunger. Carna Asada surf and turf burrito was ordered by my friend and he said the meat wasn’t as good as expected. For the time we waited for the food, the quality should have been better.

Went here for lunch after a walk down the beach. I ordered the 5 roll taquitos and my friend a steak burrito. Both items were flavorless and bland. Afterwards we took several trips to the restroom and the rest is history. I wouldn’t recommend this place because only if you like nasty tasting food.

I got the California burrito with chicken. The burrito didn’t really have enough tatste to it especially when the guacamole tasted like it was diluted with water. However, this problem was solved by adding sauces on to it to give it that extra kick in flavor. One thing I was really impressed with the burrito was that it wasn’t dry at all. The way they cooked their chicken is probably not traditional since it was super moist and super tender(unlike most burritos I had). Definitely a good place to get a quick bite with reasonable price in La Jolla.

So we ended up in this taco shop after kayaking. Starving… We’re thinking a burrito is going to satisfy our hunger. WRONG! This is NOT the place to go. First off… They are getting away with charging an arm and a leg for their crap food. $ 22 for TWO burritos. Really?!? Second… Their guacamole looks like pistachio pudding! Maybe a little greener. Third… Just not a good taco shop at all! Save yourself some money and go elsewhere. Food is NOT worth it. 1 star for chips… Other star for salsa!

Not good. Got a burrito it was pretty taste less. There were no chips left. Carrots and jalapeños was very gross. Took a while to receive order. Should be able to find better in San Diego. Next!

Good quick meal. Good tacos. Not to pricey for La Jolla. When you need a good quick meal. This is it.

I rarely write bad reviews. Good ones I do all the time. But this place really upset me and am writing a bad review. It takes a lot for me to make me write a bad review. I had a carne Asada taco, fish taco, and beans with rice as a side. Carne Asada had to be the most flavorless I have had in my entire life and I eat Mexican food everyday. The fish taco had two small pieces of fish and no sauce on the taco. Usually all fish tacos are sold with some kind of house sauce. This didn’t even have salsa. The beans tastes like out of a can. Rice was ok.

I was looking forward to having some Mexican food near the La Jolla Shores area for lunch. Looking at the different options for food I eventually decided on the fish & shrimp taco combo plate which also includes mexican rice and refried beans. The best part of the meal has to be the refried beans, definitely some of the best that I had(so far at least). As far as the tacos I preferred the shrimp taco although both were pretty good in my opinion. The main reason for the average rating has to do with the service here as I felt it could have been better. The cashier didn’t seem too enthusiastic about being there at all and that did detract from the overall experience. Also the chips and salsa bar was rather lame and not really worth it unless you want free chips.

I was looking forward to some cheap tacos by the beach, but I can’t recommend this place. I ordered three tacos: chicken, steak, and pork. The chicken was rubbery; the steak was tough and chewy; the pork was just OK. All three were flavorless and drowning in runny, bland guacamole. The tortillas were average, and pretty bland. While the restaurant boasts free chips and salsa, I can’t speak to their quality. There were only crumbs in the self-serve chip station. There was red and green salsa. The green was watery and flavorless. The red tasted like average, watery picante sauce. I’m sorry, El Charro, but you have the worst food I’ve eaten in LA Jolla.

Ordered carne asada fries. Its christmas and this is the only place open. I should have just stayed hungry. Fries taste like oven baked ore ida freezer bag fries. And they are cold. Guacamole is neon green and tastes as if it was made from adding water to a powder mix. Sour cream is generic supermarket stuff. And not even mexican crema… it’s actual sour crème. Carne is bland and grey and cold. Tried to add some red sauce to spice it up… and the salsa is bland too. Unfortunately this place will stay in business even though it shouldn’t. Neither the wealthy locals or the clueless tourists know any better.

Well now. I finally found it. Bad Mexican food in SD. I’m always remarking at how u can’t get a bad meal in this city. But then I found El Charro. The free chips were stale. This was super surprising to me bc I know plenty of people come here due to it’s awesome location by the beach. The salsa was unremarkable. oh well not that big of a deal. I ordered a beef taco w rice and beans. Everything was not quite warm. And was lackluster in flavor. Adalbertos beef taco is super yummy and it’s a fast food place! My friend got a chicken burrito. When she was done I noticed she didn’t eat the chicken. I don’t blame her. It looked all brown and yucky. Soooo… No reason to come back .
