I’d have to agree with some previous reviews that it seems maybe a little over priced. The wait times can be kind of long if you’re in a rush from my experience. The food is fresh and tastes great. I’ve had salads here and breakfast sandwiches and coffee. That’s about it. Staff seems fairly friendly, never any issues there. The outdoor seating is what really does it for me. Will be back if I’m in the area or able!

A good spot to stop in for a sandwich or a salad. A little on the pricey side, but consistently good. Nice outdoor seating. My favorite is the waldorf chicken salad sandwich — add a little salt and pepper and you are all set!

Decent food, but the lady who’s usually at the register has a really bad attitude and unfriendly, every time I’ve been there. You have a monopoly here, cheer up for gosh sakes!

Best food in the area. If you’re hungry call in your order first because at lunch time the Café is extremely busy. The staff are friendly and accommodating to both staff and patients. I’ve eaten most of everything on the menu and I have always enjoyed the meal.

In a nutshell: The food here is surprisingly decent, and any employee at MCC eats here at least on a weekly basis. It is apparently run/owned by a catering service in La Jolla, so maybe that bolsters your confidence in it? Coffee’s solid, curry chicken salad sandwich is nice, black bean chili is good. Yes, it’s a little pricey for what it is, but it’s really convenient. Plus I am not sure why but stepping foot into a medical center makes everyone hungry. Recommendations: (1) curry chicken salad sandwich. (2) Half sandwich half soup combo. (3) Coffee (4) Cookies.

This place is okay. It’s great for folks visiting or working at the medical center campus who don’t feel like walking over to Thornton’s cafeteria. I had a value meal here, which consisted of a half chicken curry sandwich, chicken curry soup, and a small drink. For $ 6.50 this is a decent deal, although the half sandwich was quite small. Neither the sandwich nor soup had any notable curry flavor, but they weren’t bad. The sandwich had only chicken and a couple lettuce leaves– the chicken salad was really only chicken tossed in a mayo mix, no other chicken salady goodies. The soup was a standard chicken soup with some veggies in it. Nothing really too bad, but there was nothing here to write home about either.

The food is grossly overpriced especially because the quality and taste is average at best. The coffee is downright awful and the staff isn’t exceptionally friendly or helpful.

Oh try the AVALANCHE! If you like your cup of addictive blended mocha with chocolate and caramel drizzle and lots if whipped cream on top :) I order these frozen drinks whenever I get the chance and have yet to find anybody to top theirs. So come on in and give it a try! It’s taken me a lot of self control to not waltz over there every day since I work right next door. The super friendly staff and convenient location if you’re in the area makes up for the pricier menu. Other foods that i’ve tried: The hot version of the avalanche is called Milky Way, also very good. Also currently very happy with my turkey and Brie croissant. Chorizo breakfast burrito is a very filling option for those of you who enjoys a richer breakfast(before 11am). On thursdays, they have the pesto farfalle but it’s one of the more garlicky/oily/bland ones… :/

Really good smoothies and blended mochas! I also love their pasta salads, wraps, and pizzas. However, the price for the drinks are pretty expensive for just blended powder and sugar! However, its a great place for me to go during work in the lab just go get a quick bite! :)

Great sandwiches. Good prices(~$ 6 for filling, fresh sandwich). Takes credit cards. Quick service. Beautiful outside tables and chairs. Saved my butt many a time when I didn’t bring lunch, and thus, am starving. Win-win, folks.

I eat here regularly and have had many of the menu items. The food is okay and it’s priced on par with what similar food would cost elsewhere. There are a few indoor tables and a large, pleasant patio area with dining tables. As one of the other reviewers noted, it is routinely understaffed. The lines are long over the lunch hours and in general, it’s just not an extremely efficient operation. I’ve had many experiences where I stand there waiting to order or pay while the employees chat amongst themselves. It’s a bit strange. The other thing that really stands out about this place is their error rate. I’ve ordered food that they forgot to make, received food that was different than what was ordered, and have many times had to return to ask for a fork or other item that should be(and usually is) included in the take-out bag. They’ll correct the error, but don’t expect an apology or any acknowledgement of the inconvenience they’ve caused you. I finally just got in the habit of checking my food before I leave, so I can get things correctly promptly if needed. In short, this place serves decent(not awesome) breakfast and lunch food. However, they benefit greatly from a captive audience of scientists, clinicians, and patients, who will continue to eat there even if the service is bad. If this place were anywhere other than where I work, I’d have stopped patronizing them long ago. There are so many better options for lunch.

I eat here all the time and have tried pretty much everything on the menu, so I feel obligated to write a more fair review, considering the only other review was written by someone who hasn’t tried their menu items… This place is not overpriced and it’s ridiculous to say they are trying to leech money off of patients. As you might be able to gather from their name, this is a CAFE. They don’t serve cheap hospital cafeteria food(you can get this across the way at Thornton Hospital). It’s a café, with café prices. The daily value meal is a great deal, as well. The wait is what you would expect from a café that puts your order together when you order it. Wait in line isn’t usually very long and the staff are always very friendly, even when they’re slammed at lunchtime. I love their paninis and the wraps and make sure you check out the daily specials. The pasta specials are always fantastic, my favorite is the tequila lime chicken fettucini(It’s just like what you get at CPK, only cheaper). Portions are good, and if they have any brownies left, they are oh-so delicious. But if I’m in line behind you and there’s only one brownie left, do a fellow Unilocaler a favor and leave it for me! ;-)

Come On In Café is the small café that is located on the second floor of Moores Cancer Center. They are extremely understaffed and busy during lunch hours so if you only have an hour lunch, be prepared to waste half of the time waiting in line and the other half waiting for your meal to come out. Some of their breakfast items are extremely overpriced, but I guess you kind of expect that from a hospital establishment? Either way, it’s never a good thing to leech money off of patients. They charge nearly $ 5.00 for two eggs cooked any style. Which doesn’t really make sense because if you get other things such as bacon, cheese, salsa, tomatoes as toppings, it only costs 25 – 50 cents more. For $ 5.00, I can just go over to Trader Joe’s and buy three dozen eggs for under $ 5.00. While I have not tried any of their other food items such as their pizzas, gourmet sandwiches, paninis, wraps, or blended drinks, I have tried one of their salads. Their Palmito salad is one of the best salads I’ve ever had, even though it might be on the pricey side for $ 6.75. They give you a good sized portion and it comes with grilled chicken, arugula, hearts of palm, avocado, tomato, shaved Parmesan and lemon vinaigrette dressing on the side. It’s delicious and all the flavors and ingredients blend together very nicely.
