Poipu Tropical Burgers

This is a decent place for decent prices. Our family of five had dinner here for $ 150 including a bottle of Kendall Jackson Chardonnay, which was ok.
The salads were blah, but all the entrees were at least average: Mac and coconut encrusted mahi.
I forgot to sign this review until a year later, but see it is now listed as closed.

I guess my tip won’t show at the top of this page… THIS PLACE IS CLOSED FOR BUSINESS. All the signage was down and it’s locked up tight. We drove a while as I searched Unilocal reviews for a great place on our route. Found this place to suit multiple needs of our tastes. And bam! No more restaurant. We were far more hungry than a puka dog, so we drove a little farther to the next sports bar restaurant place.
From what I have read, and a friend of mine that is traveling with us, it’s a real shame this place went under. He said he really liked it and was quite disappointed.

No shirt=No service!!! The beach is a few hundred feet away, across the street from this restaurant. I came here for breakfast/​lunch, wearing a swimsuit top and shorts. I was told that I needed a shirt to eat here, in a very rude tone from a staff member. I’m not sure if this is really their policy, since it is not posted within view of customers. Nevertheless, it was a very unpleasant experience to have at a restaurant right across the street from the beach. I’m never going here again!

On our last night in Poipu we wanted to grab something quick and casual and this was the perfect place. My husband loves a good burger and this place satisfied his craving.
We ordered the Pineapple Kalbi Bacon Burger and it was yummy! Burger was cooked perfect — just how we asked and super juicy. The combo of flavors on this burger was delicious! The fries were also really good and crispy.
Our waitress was very friendly and had some good recommendations when we asked. Our food also came out very fast and was nice and hot!
Great place for casual dining and families with a large selection of burgers, appetizers, and other entrees. And despite what other reviews say our service was great!

We stumbled upon this «burger place» for breakfast. Great breakfast menu! The menu was like a New York City diner with Hawaiian flare (thorough selection of omelettes, French toast, waffles, fruits etc.)
Clearly Hawaiian accents and authentic local recipes (pineapple, coconut and other exotic fruits turn a simple pancake into a breakfast delight)
Definitely come by for breakfast.

Great burger, the tropical sauce on their trademark burger makes it delicious! Also had a Bubbs Burger the day before. This was better! Bubba is good if you are on a budget. This place gives you more meat and is a sit down meal. Also serves beer unlike Bubba.

Burgers are mediocre, but the service sucks. If you want your food/​drinks brought out right don’t come here. And if you do unfortunately get stuck eating here, bring a blow horn to even get any service from the inattentive waitresses.

We have eaten here twice for breakfast and once for lunch during our vacation and each time had great food and great service! Prices are fair for the island. The selection of burgers is outstanding and our son loved the Rice Bowl with chicken. Great French toast and pancakes as well. If you are really hungry, try the Shakka Breakfast. Yum!

I have to agree with others on the service. I arrived around 2:30 after the lunch rush — there were only a few people in the restaurant. I ordered a simple Cobb Salad — you would think it wouldn’t take that long to cook. 25 minutes later I finally get my salad. The waitress kept saying «it’s coming, it’s coming, 1 minute,» which didn’t help matters any. The food was fine, but I was really turned off about how long it took. I overheard the manager talking to one of the wait staff saying something about «needing more customers and more money.» You want more customers? You need to work on your food prep time and work on how the servers treat customers. Excellent customer service and quick table service will get you more customers. I won’t be back.

It was getting late, we were hungry and this was the only place we didn’t have to wait an hour. I now know why. Didn’t have time to read the reviews. Very slow service. I just had a salad so I can’t really comment on most of their food, but the salad was akin to a larger portion McDonalds salad.

WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER!!!
I’ve been to Poipu Tropical Burgers before and have had issues with customer service and had to address it with management, but decided to try them again because their burgers are tasty. Unfortunately, this is the last time we will patronize Poipu Tropical Burgers. So this issue this time started with my order getting messed up. I ordered a burger with bacon on the side, but when the plates were brought out I asked the waitress where my side of bacon was. She made a comment to the effect of «you mean you wanted it for your burger?» Hmmm no I just want to eat 4 slices of bacon by itself! She then went back to the kitchen to check on my side. She came back and said that they were cooking it now. I asked if she put it in with my burger order and she affirmed that she did. Now the burger took an exceptionally long time anyway so they had time to cook a few slices of thin bacon! In fact, the table next to us was seated after we were and ordered well after we did and somehow they were served before us. The waitress then came back and said that she was sorry it was taking so long, but that this was a special grilling because they don’t usually serve bacon this late… wait a minute, there are at least two burger selections that come specifically with bacon! Regardless she should have told me that it may take a little longer and give me the option of waiting or skipping the bacon. I then asked to speak with the manager. The waitress went back to get the manger but came back and said that the manager was in the kitchen cooking. I never did get my issue addressed by the manger and so before I left I asked for the name and contact information for either the GM or the owner (which I later found out was one and the same). The waitress could not tell me how to contact the owner and was barely able to give me her name. She did give me the business card of Bernal Naholoholo who is the Operations Manger that refused to come out and address the issue personally. Furthermore, I found out that there were two cooks so I can only assume that this manager does not care to address customer service issues. The waitress also handed me a customer survey… like I was going to waste my time filling that out only to have it thrown away by Ms. Naholoholo who was unconcerned to speak to me face-​to-​face. Fortunately, I know the shopping center manager and will be getting in touch with her to get in contact with the owner of Poipu Tropical Burger. I really hope that she is concerned with making her customers happy, however, by the lack of response on reviews it appears that she could care less. I manage a store here on island that caters to tourist and will pass on to customers to stay clear of this place until they change their service!

This restaurant was awesome! The burgers and onion rings were delicious. Dawn, our waitress, was very helpful when we had questions about the menu. I would definitely eat here again if I return to Kauai.

We came here for lunch today. When we were seated, we were the only customers in the restaurant but it didn’t take long for the place to fill up.
We ordered a couple of burgers and side order of eggs to put on our burgers. Our order came with yummy crisp french fries.
Service was prompt.

They could get an extra star for having multiple veggie options in a burger joint but really only deserve 3 stars. The veggie burger is a little mushy but flavor is ok. Fries are a little overdone and lemonade I out of the tap. However the onion ring app is great with a perfect chili sauce to dip. My husband got the Saimin and ate the whole very large bowl of it. I’d come back for the nice breeze and calm view and the onion rings but the staff is a little clumsy and forgets little things so I’d probably just sit at the bar.

«RESTAURANT IMPOSSIBLE» SHOW PLEASE HELP THIS PLACE!!! I watch that show and love it but never though that I would find myself in one of those restaurants that the host is trying to turn around. Maybe there were hidden cameras installed already and the host was using our table to show the owner how crappy his restaurant was.
Basically a horrible, horrible, horrible place. If I could give it no stars I would. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else. Our stressed out and overworked waitress was nice but continuously informed us that they had ran out of things — no lemonade, no taco salad, no capers… If we went through the whole menu, they would probably be missing ingredients for 25% of the menu items.
Then we got our food… sort of. The meals arrived with 5 – 10 minute spacing EACH for 6 people and when my dad’s fish finally arrived, about 30 minutes after I got my chicken sandwich, it was raw inside and had to be recooked. It was tasteless. My sandwich was just OK, but they first failed to get me the side salad (the waitress said that the kitchen was really busy) and then when the $ 2.95 side salad substitute arrived in place of my fries it was literally a small pile of lettuce with a few small diced tomatoes thrown in (WTF?). The sphaggetti and meatballs were decent, the rest of the food was bland. The kicker came when we got the bill — $ 150 with tax and tip for 6 people and a child even with a 10% discount because I complained.
I really don’t understand how a place like this can even stay in business. This place is perfect for that show. When I complained verbally the manager gave me a complaint form to fill out — almost with a sense of relief — things are either really really bad and she was trying to get the owner’s attention or she is going to trash my written complaint so she didn’t care. Not sure which.

we tried this place for breakfast because it was close to the resort where we were staying. atmosphere was ok, but the service and taste of the food is seriously lacking. I ordered «- the Hawaiin omelette– the locals favorite» so I thought I this gonna be great. not so much.
The eggs were wet, the hash browns it came with were so hard and overcooked that they were next to impossible to chew and landed in my lap most of the time instead of my mouth. the toast was a small piece of plain white bread (can they not afford to get sourdough?) that was served cold so the butter never melted on it. our waitress never took another look at us once she brought the meal, so we waited and waited to get her attention to bring the milk I had ordered when we originally sat down. Sadly, the coffee was not the greatest either.
and the best part, i was in the bathroom immediately after eating at this restaurant. It was not pretty. I just wish I’d seen all the other horrible reviews about this place before we walked in there.

From the beginning I was skeptical when I noticed the dirty tables and messy surfaces. My experience here was absolutely awful. From the start, Jojo seemed hostile and full of attitude. When I received my food, Jojo was extremely rude and argued with me about the burger I ordered. It was red on the rim and fairly pink in the middle. When I tried to explain my concern she argued and refused to get the manager. She stated I had eaten too much (I had only eaten up to the red portion). I tried to explain the risks of E. Coli in red hamburger meats due to the increased surface area of ground beef. She said that it would be red in the middle and not on the edge. She erupted in anger and told me that I was wrong and would not refund my money. We asked again to see manager and she said no. I would not recommend this place to any tourists. I never thought that I would dislike a piece of bacon, until I came here to Poipu Tropical Burgers.
Do you like overcooked, burnt, dry, bacon that disintegrates in your mouth?
Do you like paper thin bacon?
If you do, then this is the perfect place to get your bacon.
I know this is a burger place, but they were still serving breakfast when I arrived, and I was damn hungry. Breakfast is my favorite meal of the day and I decided to order the «tu-​tu» connection, which is two pieces of French toast, two slices of bacon and two eggs anyway you want it. The French toast was a bit dry and a little gritty. It was just a little off. The sauce they topped it off with was also gritty and a bit weird. The eggs (I ordered them scrambled) were dry. Sad face. Scrambled eggs should be fluffy and a bit moist and it wasn’t the case here. The worst was the bacon. I’ve honestly never been so disappointed by bacon in my entire life! I think my accidental overcoooking and burning of bacon (because I just stick my bacon in the oven and forget to take it out in time) was way better than this. Breakfast was just a bit of a disappointment.
On the bright side, my coworkers that ordered burgers said they were pretty good.
Yes, lesson learned.
When at a burger place, order… burgers.

We decided to have lunch at this restaurant. I gave it 3 stars, the location is nice, service is friendly, and prices were reasonable. The restaurant wasn’t too busy and we got seated right away.
I ordered the BLT burger, would’ve been perfect if it came with mayo. The bun was grilled perfectly and fries were good too. We also shared a plate of the sweet Maui onion rings which comes with a sweet sauce. The onion rings were good as well. I wily recommend this place if you want a burger and don’t want to spend a lot.

On my last day on Kauai, we had to abandon the beautiful house we rented early in the morning. We had 8 – 10 hrs to kill and went to Tropical Burgers for a leisurely breakfast.
There’s no view worth mentioning, but the restaurant is open like one big porch. Nonetheless, it became stuffy and we asked our waitress to turn on the fan above. Speaking of the waitress, it was obvious she’s been at this a while. Everything is automatic for her. Halfway through a fairly decent cup of coffee, she would appear to refill.
I don’t understand the complaints. I had a hash brown breakfast bowl with Hawaiian pork and sausage, peppers, mushrooms, cheddar, tomatoes, and 2 eggs. I opted for over easy eggs, which they executed perfectly, and the runny yolk complemented the meal wonderfully.
