Certainly not the best venue in Knoxville, but A nice, intimate, clean one ! Have been to the square room a few times and have always enjoyed myself. Depending on the show, they will add seats or not. Usually a small bar set up with a few draft beers, ciders, and white and red wine. It is convenient to eat at café 4, then come to the back to see a show. You can get into the square room by the back door, or to go through the restaurant, by walking past the kitchen.

I just love this venue! I have been here for several performances, including a couple of nice live music luncheons with the Knoxville Jazz Orchestra, which are just delightful. There’s something so novel about using your lunch break to listen to live jazz! So much fun. I believe many lunch performances are catered by Café 4, although the food provided is usually buffet style and not included on their regular menu. If you’re a fan of live music(who isn’t?), give this place a try! Super unique. You’ll love it.

Went here for a wedding actually, and they had a live band for the music, so we got to experience a few sides of the venue. Cool little venue with decent acoustics. Food was good, though I decided to skip the steamed mussels sitting out on a buffet in a landlocked city… Helpful and fun bar staff that went along with the guests’ craziness and rocked out to the band that was playing.

Not the best venue in Knoxville but certainly one of THE best shows ever! The Steeldrivers. Check em out!

Not bad. The beer selection sucked, but the kids selling it were friendly enough. It’s literally a room. So what else will I write? It’s roomy, there are tables scattered about, and it’s more of a rectangle. Whatever. The staff sort of suck(aside from the beer folks). It has clean bathrooms. Yay. Will I go back? Maybe.

Although I’ve seen some cool bands here, I’m disappointed with the politics behind the scenes. I understand that the owners didn’t want to let Matmos play there during BIGEARS festival because they are gay and/or had some gay art that accompanied their show. I can’t look at the place the same way, knowing homophobes run the place. Also there was some very unprofessional treatment of employees there. The food is ok. Ive gotten sick on it a few times, because it’s kind of greasy. But there are good Italian sodas. The brunch didn’t impress me. I do like the location in Market Square. So, kind of a blah review and feeling I have about Square room. As far as a room goes that’s supposed to be featuring music being an actual square, VERY bad idea acoustically. Come-on. Just asking for feed-back. Obviously the owners don’t know anything about music or musicians or they would have redesigned the room. What’s so novel about a square? Wow, look guys, this room is a SQUARE!!! Let’s call it the square room… Genius.
