The prices are a bit high, but the staff isn’t friendly at all. We stood in line while 3 employees had a conversation, none were in a hurry to check us out. Next time I’d just order online.

had kind of a weird experience. Went in a bit before closing. Was able to shop around a bit, got what I needed. There were VERY few people in the place. Not once, until I went to the cashier, did anyone say anything to me. seems like a nice place with lots of goodies that I would like, but likely to go somewhere else where there is more of a service orientation(it wasn’t for lack of people).

Way over priced. Good place to over spend. There is a large selection of goodies but not really worth the premium prices that charge.

So what’s the point in having the number pull system and waiting by the gun section to get help when you don’t use it. We were here to purchase and walked by and ignored not once, twice, or three times but FOUR times. People who arrived after us, we’ll after is, we’re helped. You not only lose a customer but at least the money for three weapons!!! They don’t serve people of color or a mixed race family!

Called to make sure they had a particular gun safe in stock, needed to buy two, and drove from North Knoxville to Turkey Creek after confirming they were in stock. Of course, when we get there they have none of the one I came for, and only have one safe in stock in a similar style key lock safe. Thanks for wasting my time and money driving out for nothing.

I visited the west Knoxville store to redeem a gift certificate. The check out process was terrible and when I finally got out, I found that my turkey mouth call had already been opened. I just trashed it as it wasn’t worth the trouble to take it back. I’m glad I visited so I won’t have to go back.

Great big sporting goods store. Every time I go in they are not that busy. You can easily walk around this store and be waited on if you like. They have lots of guns and ammo. And of course all the hunting Accesories you need and don’t need. There’s plenty of parking out front. One weird thing they have here is doe pee in a spray can. I don’t know how well it works in bringing in the bucks but this is an unusual item –you have to agree.

Martin in Shooting Dept. has been a great help. He is very knowledgeable, friendly, and has given me all the time needed to answer my questions and my wife all the time she needed to «try on» pistols. I’ve talked with him three times and always receive very competent and unrushed advice.

Bought my first firearm here recently. Staff was incredibly helpful and continue to be do when I have gone back to pick up ammo or anything else. Prices are fair if not great.

I am puzzled that a store that is offering 50 to 75% off really doesn’t care if you coming by anything or not I went there yesterday evening walked around the store for about 20 minutes. Not a single associate offered ask me if I was looking for anything in particular nor do they even seem to care if I was there or not Several associates were busy putting up inventory and doing their evening tasks while other customer simply seem to not get any help or interest whatsoever How hard would it be to post some of the at the door great you as you come in and then ask if is anything particular that you were looking for? I wonder if their corporate management could take a lesson from the Home Depot team as they greates you on Black Friday?

I was impressed the first time we went and impressed again yesterday. We went looking for gloves the first time and we had great customer service showing what we were looking for and they tried to find other options to the magnets that were in the gloves we chose. We also had great customer service with my husband finding boots and finding options and sizes. This time, we went looking for boots for me and although the gentleman was busy with other customers, he came up just as soon as he was free to see how he can help. He was friendly and offered his name and came back to make sure we didn’t need anything else. I have preferred this to larger stores where I get lost and there are crowds of people with not much room to move around. Through the few times we’ve been here, the customer service has been friendly and consistent through any area of the store we’ve been in along with the cashiers. I’ll definitely be back when I need outdoor equipment.

This huge store is packed full of outdoor merchandise of all kinds — a treat for city-bound people who are dreaming about upcoming outdoor adventures. On my latest visit to Gander Mountain I was looking for hiking pants and other outdoor clothing. I find the arrangement of products confusing — I had to go from one rack to another to find the offerings from Brand A, Brand B, Brand C, etc., and I kept wondering if there were other similar products I hadn’t noticed yet. It was disappointing to find that much of the outdoor clothing for women was in the form of capri pants, skirts, and other items that seem more fashionable than practical(even though they were made from outdoorsy materials and had cargo-pant-style pockets). Still, I gathered an armload of items to try on, went to the dressing room area, pushed the button to summon staff assistance, and was pleased when a young man showed up promptly to let me in. After I had determined that nothing both fit right and met my needs, I was surprised and pleased to find that he was still waiting in the area — and probably had to go around returning my items to the racks where I had found them. When I finally checked out, I was buying some socks that I had selected from the store’s vast array of seemingly similar pricey outdoor socks, having chosen a brand that was marked as being on special discount. As I walked out to the car, I checked the receipt and discovered that I had been charged full price for the socks — and even had been charged more for one pair than the price marked on the packaging. When I went back in to get the situation fixed, the young woman who had rung up my purchase was pleasant and helpful about correcting the prices. She told me that the store’s computers often aren’t programmed to show the store’s sale prices, so they often need to fix prices manually. Bottom line: Impressive array of merchandise, but not necessarily what the customer wants. Great personnel make up for some shortcomings, but customers need to watch to ensure that the prices charged match the prices advertised.

There are several business in Knoxville that offer equipment and apparel for specialized applications, however, Gander Mountain is the best general outdoors equipment in the Knoxville area. While the inventory is generally of a seasonal nature, anyone needing a quick purchase while in route or for a last minute trip will usually find an item that will fit the bill. Simply stated, this is the Wal-mart of the outdoor world. The store’s layout is such that items can be located quickly, and there always seems to be plenty of staff to offer directions or suggestions toward a purchase. The parking area is spacious, and once the rush of traffic is negotiated allowing access to their portion of Parkside Drive, parking is free and easy, especially for larger than normal vehicles and trailers. The ‘grilling’ section is especially good ‘in season’ and offers a nice selection of spices and rubs. The firearms section is a bit ‘iffy’ — one should have a strong idea of what is wanted, and be prepared to wait for service. Returning items to Gander is a bit of a problem. Simply stated, they don’t want returns, and unless there’s an easily detected fault with an item accompanied by a recent sales receipt, you’ll expend a great deal of time and energy trying to work something out with the store manager. Be prepared to be insulted, and have your integrity questioned. Hang in there, though.

Bought a magazine for my Springfield XDM .45. Asked clerk to verify that the markings on the package meant what it appeared that they did, and that it was the correct item for my Springfield. Got home, and it was for a Springfield XDM9 mm. Apparently you can’t trust the staff here. I’ll go to my home Gander Mountain and get a refund, but that’s the end of my Gander Mountain shopping. I’ll stick with Cabela’s.

Gander Mountain is a good stop for any outdoorsy person. They’ve got hunting, camping, and fishing supplies as well as outdoor equipment. They also have guns. And the guys behind the gun counter are friendly and helpful. What’s another great thing about this store is that it has an archery range! Never been to a store that had one so that’s pretty darn sweet. Another thing that we found that was pretty awesome was NY State Fair’s Spiedie Sauce which is a marinade. My husband is a New Yorker and has not been able to find this marinade anywhere except in NY. And to find it here in TN allows him to have a taste of home whenever he wants. Spiedie Sauce is amazing and it was a great find!
