I’m Sorry Ginny T. I usually enjoy most of your reviews; they are generally insightful but I can’t tell if this is an actual review or not. You said you haven’t been in for a while yet you reviewed that restaurant. Is this review based on a new visit or just re-hashing an old one. I went there and they also don’t have any doughnuts. Sorry, I generally appreciate your insight but this one leaves me a little confused. Why would you review a restaurant that you haven’t been to?

Pizzeria that is not as spectacular as the bread next door. I haven’t been for a while, but I was underwhelmed by the pizza. But the appetizers are another story. The best roasted(or grilled, not sure) brussels sprouts you will ever taste. And the donut dessert to die for. I also believe there were too many flies around and a trash bin was within open view of the tables. That might have been rectified, but I haven’t been because I’m too afraid to find more flies… I guess the good thing about flies, however, is that it means the food is real and fresh?

Great pizza. Would have liked a little more variety, but what we got was still great. Fast service. Pizza was perfect serving size for our family of 3.

We really enjoyed our experience at this place. We had just stopped in for a quick appetizer and drink. We ended up staying for a few hours and having dinner as well. We started with the wings and fries, which were both excellent. We then got a pizza. We chose the white sauce mushroom pizza and it was very good. We were able to enjoy the half price beer on draft for happy hour(3 – 6). They also had half priced wine on tap which was different. I will be sure to go back next time I’m in town.

Love the breads. The restaurant however is a different story… highly disappointing. Was expecting a huge variety of sandwiches, menu. and instead menu was one page. The chicken bacon pizza was delicious but judging from meal portions around me, it’s not worth it otherwise. We went in during happy hour which was not even 3 pm for them and the waiter seemed shocked we did not want alcohol. asked a few times.

One of the great spots in Kittery. Food is very good, beer list is fantastic. Relatively kid friendly. Only fail was the hostesses are very bad. They were not friendly — they kept telling us we were in their way, but could not point to where they wanted us stand as we waited for our table. But, that’s minor, we go all the time and love it.

When you see he name of the restaurant, we thought… BBQ… And then saw Pizzeria… We looked online menu and thought it sounded ok. Not what we expected when we went in. The waitress was a young girl who helped us greatly with getting the pizza we could enjoy. Told us about their awesome fries, so we had to try them. And she was not wrong. Omg they were good, and I loved the sauces that they give with them… The pizza came and is as pleasantly surprised. The pizza tasted so good. I love the flavor and spices of the pizza. The only thing that was not great was the soda, it was really sweet, like end of the tap or something. But overall the dinner was enjoyable. I’d go there again, especially for the fries!

This old building has been modernized into a fantastic, industrial style, wood fired pizza shop. With 160 plus seats, this place still fills up quick, but the lines move quickly. During your wait there is a store in the same building to browse. I’m going to review the two separately as they should be and because one was fine while the other was not. The restaurant itself was great. Lots of exposed wood and metal give it a distinct modern look and there’s plenty of space where you won’t be crowded. The waitstaff was quick to our table and quick to those around us, giving us plenty of time to browse the sizable menu. Obviously the pizza is the big draw here and they have several options they will wood fire for you. By far the best specialty pie is the duck confit with duck, cranberries, walnuts, fontina cheese and crispy kale. The flavors blended perfectly. The mushroom arugula with onion is another favorite or just come make your own combo. Wood fired mussels and chicken wings, giant stuffed sandwiches, local beers and a raw bar all make this place a must visit for anyone with plenty of non pizza options. The pies at around $ 18 are absolutely worth it. The store however has a major issue. While I frequently buy their bread from stores and farmers markets where it comes bagged, the loaves inside the store just sit unwrapped in baskets to bag yourself. Fine in theory, however you could see the marks where people had used their fingers to yank off pieces of the bread to try(regardless of the fact they had samples) and people were pawing through them to get the right loaf with their bare hands. It was entirely unappetizing You can;t exactly wash a loaf of bread like a piece of fruit. This should be remedied with bagged loaves also available. I was going to buy several that day and bought none instead. For the restaurant itself, 4 well deserved stars. For the store. a very low one.

I was surprised to be so disappointed with this Pizzeria. First the acoustics are horrible, whoever built this place did not think that when people sit down to dinner they would like to have conversation with each other, so noisy I wanted out right away. The pizzas are nothing to wright home about and very pricey, the services wasn’t any better. We will not be going back here!

Ordered the special: scallop plate, chorizo sausage, asparagus and a quail egg… Sounds good right? $ 18.00. The good: scallop plate was an absolute work of art. Delicious in every element, asparagus perfectly cooked, not over cooked, not mushy. Beautiful dish, and the chef should be proud to have the picture posted. The average – Beer– not as good of a selection as it should be, but not bad. The bad: it’s 18 bucks– where in God’s name is the rest of it? This wasn’t enough food for one of Snow White’s dwarfs. And starch? Starch is cheap. Where the hell is the starch? At least put it over rice, or cous cous or something. I had to order fries($ 7.00 for a fried potato? And no one cares about your ‘sauces’. It’s a potato in oil. Mayo should never touch a potato. French fries… With Ketchup… Should be $ 4.00, most). My advice, enjoy the place, have a pint, unwind, but under no circumstances should you go here when you’re actually hungry.

[Updated]: My wife and I have had some positive experiences here in the past. However, my wife recently had an online exchange with someone purporting to be the owner via this Facebook page, and received the most pompous, arrogant and unprofessional response back that I’ve ever seen, in which he essentially made fun of and insulted her. Responses provided by the company/owner were that this FB page had been hacked. Update: We met with the owner at the restaurant to talk about the situation. He reiterated that he did not know who wrote the messages,(although he acknowledged that they were most likely sent from the WPF computer, and not hacked from the outside as originally reported), and that he wished that he had handled the situation very differently. He apologized and said management is taking steps to make sure nothing like this happens again.

Loved our salad and pizza(meatball)! Wine selection is okay but need better by the glass selections. Also the exclusion to Holiday is not asterisked on the specials board just footnoted. Also many tables at entrance were crowded and taken by patrons waiting. Not the best set up. Sit at the bar if you can! Ingredients are fresh and wood fired pizza is delish! Don’t pass by this place.

I was eager to try WPF after hearing so much about it. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the menu has plenty of variety and choices. We started with the Kale Salad and kale was very fresh. There could have been a few more toppings in the salad. For pizza we tried a Margherita, Eggplant and Ricotta, and the Italian Spicy Sausage and Mushroom. Eggplant and Ricotta are my two favorite pizza toppings and I have tried this combo at many other restaurants. I have to say I was a little disappointed by WPF’s version. I was not a fan of the pesto and if I were to get it again I would probably ask to skip the pesto. Overall I thought all the pizzas were a little on the dry side. They were all good but after all the build-up I heard about WPF I was expecting a little better. I have been to York 54, which is a pizza restaurant a few miles up Rte 1 and I have to say I liked their pizza much better. However, WPF is a better dining experience because of the size of the restaurant and the store selling bread.

I am a HUGE fan of When Pigs Fly Pizzeria: It is a safe distance away from the Kittery shopping chaos. Located on a private lot surrounded by trees and plenty of parking in the lot. The driveway also loops in front of the building should you need to drop anyone safely at the door, especially during inclement weather. We have been here at different times of day and night and have never had to wait too long for a seat, if at all. It’s probably because the chairs are not super comfortable where you would want to hang out for hours :) There is always at least one staff member to greet you with a smile as you walk in, however it is easy to get distracted by the long beer list that is hanging behind them. The bar is directly in front of you as you walk in and to the left is the restaurant. It is an open room with high and low tables and very heavy chairs. The place is always clean. The restrooms are also very clean. The only complaint I have about the restrooms is that they only have air hand dryers — not my favorite. When I go in I usually have an idea of what I am craving, but the daily specials menu can sometimes throw me off my plan… but that’s a good thing. SNACKS: We love the housemade Bavarian pretzel with the SPICY mustard and honey. I have not had a mustard like this one that comes with the pretzel. It doesn’t seem spicy at first… and then… Your sinuses are burning!!! Chase it with honey. It is so good. The artisan bread plate — fantastic! But, if you aren’t sharing it with at least 3 other people, you won’t have room for anything else, especially if you are drinking beer. Hand cut Belgian fries are a favorite — we usually order some to start and then continuing eating them as a side to our sandwiches(which don’t come with fries) SANDWHICHES: Skillet Madame — WOW… I mean… I have never had a Croque Madame like this one. The bread and custard truly make this sandwich. I tried so hard to finish it, but because we had appetizers, I had to raise the white flag and actually share the rest with my husband. This is my favorite item on their menu! PIZZAs: Their pizza’s are fantastic and very heavy and filling, you definitely won’t walk away hungry. I like the sauce and the fresh toppings. I have not tried any of their pesto pizzas or the duck, but I have tried the others, they are delicious. Well balanced with toppings and flavors. Grilled Pineapple and capicola. YES! DESSERT: First — GIFFORDs ice cream — Maine Ice Cream! My favorite Maine Ice Cream. Second, we only had room for dessert once — Blueberry bread pudding cake. If you think it sounds good, then get it, because it is good! Beers — Craft beers galore!!! Usually at least 20+ craft beers available. Service — never have had a bad experience. Prompt and polite. The bread store next door! BREADSTORE!!! We always stop in, if the are still open. So many varieties of breads and you can buy the Bavarian pretzels as well! They have locally made chocolates for sale. They have GELATOFIASCO pints for sales as well. My favorite Gelato! I would recommend to anyone driving by this area. I think it is worth the trip even if you are not in the area.

I saw this resturaunt on phantom gourmet this morning and it sold me. I had to try it. All the food just looked amazing and the atmosphere seemed very nice. My boyfriend ordered the madame sandwich which is like a ham and cheese sandwich on steriods! The ham was the most tender ham and juciest ham I had ever had, the truffle sauce at the bottom was outstanding and the fried egg on top was cooked to perfection. Thr bread they pair it with just makes everything fall into place. I would recommend this sandwich to anyone and I guarantee you’ll love it, hands down. I had the fried egg plant, rigotta, and pesto pizza. Cooked to perfection and it’s flavors where all there and then some. For desert we had the heath bar sandwich with vanilla ice cream in the middle. It’s huge but very very good. Atmosphere was great and the staff and waitress was very nice:) will definitely be back!

We were visiting friends in the Manchester, NH area and they asked if we’d ever tried When Pigs Fly before. Because we hadn’t, they then offered to follow us up to Maine the next day to have lunch(complete with baby in tow) because they loved it so much and wanted to make sure we experienced it. They swore that the wings were the best they ever had. I will say that the wings(with Korean BBQ sauce) lived up to the hype for my husband(I’m not a wing fan, so I can’t comment). We all split a margherita pizza which was had great quality crust(chewy and crispy with a slight char) and fresh mozzarella and herbs. The one note I’d make is that the sauce was slightly under-seasoned — a pinch of salt would have helped. Their fresh lemonade was also amazing. The trip really got exciting for me when we visited the store next door afterward. For any bread lovers out there… You NEED to check this place out. They had at least thirty types of freshly made bread for you to choose from(everything from rosemary ciabatta and sourdough to spinach and garlic and even chocolate bread). They also had a wide variety of Maine made butters(we bought some of the truffle butter, which is as amazing as it sounds) and other baked goods(cookies and cakes). What’s even more awesome is that they have a whole tasting area within the store! Probably about a dozen or so different types of breads/treats with various toppings(olive oils, butters, etc.). If my husband hadn’t been there to reign me in, I would have purchased far more than I did(rosemary ciabatta bread, truffle butter and a chocolate Heath bar cookie).

Had the most delicious pizza here! We ordered one with pineapple, prosciutto and jalapeños, and it was amazing! Seriously one of the best pizzas I have ever tasted. They also have a lot of beers on tap and you can build your own flight to sample three to seven different ones. They range from about $ 2.75 to $ 4 a glass for 4.75 ounces. Service was friendly. The only tiny complaint I would have is that the pizza came before the beer, but not a huge deal, especially because the pizza came out way faster than I thought it would.

I LOVE this place. Hell, I just ate here today and I think I will again while I’m staying up in Portsmouth this week. Not only do I want to eat at the restaurant, I want to hit up the connected retail store that sells many of the raw ingredients to the foods they prepare on their menu. With some extra specialty foods added for extra measure. Back to the restaurant. After eating fairly heavy for a few days now, we wanted a salad. The Greek salad hit the spot, which farm fresh ingredients, an awesome Greek dressing, and assorted Greek olives. Our daughter spied the Bavarian pretzel, which was easily the best pretzel I ever had — soft and doughy on the inside and slightly crusty on the outside. It was served with honey and mustard that were delicious alone, but even better when mixed in the plate like a painter’s palate. This was one of those places where it’s difficult to choose because everything just sounds so good. we ended up trying the Medjool Date and Soppressatta pizza with Mike’s Hot Honey. The pizza was just as I expected, the perfect balance of sweet, heat, and savory salumi. This is pizza the way it was intended to be made. Can’t wait to come back.
