Very nice quaint pizza place. Nice décor and the employees were very kind. The pizza was bad to put it frank. Looks feels and taste like cardboard. Tastes like frozen pizza cooked in a wood oven. Very bad pizza would not recommend

Once upon a time I would have said both an Excellent pizza and a wonderful experience… As for the pizza I recommend going on a busy night; if you walk in and the wood fired pizza oven is off then look for the stack of fully precooked flat breads and opt for chicken instead! As for service, keep your expectations low. Historically, the Pizza was an Anniversary worthy evening. For years, 6 at least, we have been patrons and referred many to partake in the delicious experience. On each of our wonderful evenings the same gentleman was at the register taking our order and delivered it to our table and then checked in. We have come as a newlyweds, with parents, with nieces and siblings with rave reviews from all. On our most recent evening it was a weekday, we arrived 15 minutes prior to closing and asked if they preferred if we take pizza Togo — we were welcomed to stay as long as we didn’t mind the clean up that would begin shortly. We ordered pizza, chicken and drinks. We chatted with the order taker and expressed our surprise that the(aforementioned) gent was not there; we learned he had moved on. As we waited we were surprised to observe the wood fired oven was off. The stack of flatbreads didn’t surprise us; historically, even in busy nights we have seen a big stack of «par-cooked», awaiting the additional flash cooking back on the wood fired grill. Chicken arrived promptly however the pizza took a longer than previous period of time. The pizza arrived with black edged crust that actually crumbled when picked up and held completely horizontal without a bit of bend. My niece took a bite«doesn’t taste like it usually does, so dry». It backed up my unspoken thoughts and aligned with my observation of extreme dryness. I immediately sought assistance; I stood at the register and waited 3 – 5 minutes while the employee with line of sight to me continued to clean and chat with an employee out of my sight. I unfortunately had to interrupt their exchange and ask for assistance. The order taker appeared around the corner, approached and listened as I explained the quality issue. It was quickly rectified with two replacement pizzas. When delivered by the Manager I responded«looks delicious, just like our previous experiences» the response«we checked out the first two and it was just the crust that was well done you know it can happen, our pizza is very thin». As I turned from the counter back to our table my niece immediately began comparing the piece from the first to the second and asked«how could they say that; why didn’t you correct her?» I reminded her of what it means to take the high road. Sadly, I had one more occasion to reminded her of this. As we were leaving, yes they were closed it was 9:30, we asked(the same employee that ignored me at the register, the one whom had made and delivered the pizza) if we could buy the cheesecake special Togo(it comes in a little tin pan, no prep required); «no, we are um out of that». Interesting, as we had already ordered one Togo that she was unaware of… In conclusion, I am unsure if the quality of the food has permanently decreased but I am 100% spot on when I say service has flatlined from the manger to the cook. By the way, they didn’t bother to say«Thank you or Good Night.» Will I go back? After numerous years, inclusive if 3 week night anniversaries, i just didn’t feel like a valued customer. I can make homemade pizza with prime ingredients from across the street at MEat and won’t be left with the feeling«that I was the problem».

I wish I could give more than 5 stars and and wish more people would follow their lead of wood fired slices where you can add your own toppings, including grilled shrimp and house made pulled chicken among others. The quality is always amazing here.

I find the pizza crust sort of subpar. Its wicked expensive. The salads are really nice but not as fresh as I would expect from a place as expensive and associated with such a nice place as Anneke Jans. I’ve tried it twice hoping that the second time would be better, and both times I was disspointed especially for the price. Go to flatbread!

Not impressed, over priced, staff less than friendly, not worth the«dough» — we tried the place 2 different times. Have not been back since. Both times, pizzas were just ok. For the price ok is not sufficient.

The ingredients are good but the pizza crust is bad. I’ve ordered pizza there several times and the crust is consistently bad. I think they are going for thin and crispy, but the result is like cardboard. One of the worst crusts ever. It’s hard to believe they don’t notice how bad it is. They need to eat their own crusts and work at it until it is right! If they don’t change the crust, this business will not last. With a good crust, AJ’s would be great.

Again, a solid 3.5. The likes about this place are that the pizza is scratch made. Nothing beats that in terms of making what the customer wants. The wood fired grill produces a quality slice, although I’m not sure what genre of pizza they exist in. The dough is a little soft, on the bready side, but it comes out of a wood fire where I am used to more cracker style thin crusts. But it isn’t as bready as a Greek style pizza(and certainly not as greasy). If they are going for something unique, then right on, but I couldn’t discern the style. That being said, you can get 2 really good and filling slices hot off the presses for less than 6 bucks. I had a sandwich on another occasion and it was decent. I had it delivered, and as a result the bread absorbed a lot of the liquid and made for an interesting eating experience. The turkey with avocado was good, the portion was decent, and the price alright at about 8.50. But for me, the pizza is the main attraction. The staff is courteous and helpful, front the register to the delivery person. No complaints there. The girl at the register was especially patient with our party the day we went, so big ups to her. You may want to get here early or call for delivery during the busy season. The seating area is small.

Good specials and cozy environment. Wood grilled pizza is delicious. Most staff are friendly, and it’s a clean, comfortable space.

Delicious pizza at a pretty good value. The wood fire oven leaves a smoky taste, especially on the crust. Toppings are fresh. The red sauce is heavy on the tomato paste(for which I am a fan). We did pickup.

Fabulous pizza– was staying in a local hotel and had it delivered. Very professional and friendly, both over the phone and the delivery guy– pizza arrived hot and I appreciated the variety of toppings. They even gave us a free chocolate chip cookie. Top notch place, and I loved the quality and creativity they brought to the table. Can’t go wrong with these guys!

We have only ordered delivery from here, and the food has been consistently very good. The delivery is quick and accurate, one time we had an issue with our order and they corrected it immediately. Very good service, and gluten free pizza!

Best wings in town! The BBQ sauce they use for their wings is awesome. I usually get delivery/take out but it is a cute little spot to eat in and have a beer. I did get delivery about week ago and was overcharged $ 3. when I called about it the guy I spoke with was super nice and apologetic, but the $ 3 hasn’t been refunded to me yet :\ Not a HUGE deal and certainly won’t keep me from going back, but just something to keep in mind.

We love AJ’s and go as often as we can. Cozy and comfortable, welcoming staff that really care, delicious food! Salads are outstanding. Pizza is the best around. I had their clam chowder the other day and it was AMAZING! Probably the best chowder I have ever had… and I have had a lot! You can’t go wrong here. Really!

Got a pizza here tonight and was excited due to good reviews on Unilocal.Yikes. What a disappointment. Ordered pepperoni, mushroom, extra cheese and extra sauce. Was charged as a topping for extra sauce and cheese but pizza had barely any cheese and sauce and no pepperoni. Crusts were all pre-made and tasted like Gas Station or school cafeteria pizza. I do not recommend this place. it was terrible.

I only tried their pizza, and I only went there cuz I didna bring my smartphone with me, otherwise I would have seen that Black Birch is NOT open on Sundays! Major frown, what to do? Well, before we hit Locos Tacos(now that is another 5 stars) we each got a separate slice of just-so perfect pizza, each slice just $ 3 or so. OK, we had to wait 10 minutes while they prayed over the dough and set up a new fire with aromatic spices from Ceylon, but man, that was the best za I have had south of Portland, ME! Except maybe Owens in K-bunk… Be warned, they serve the thin crust! SOOO much better than that When Pigs Fly joint that everyone thinks is so great!!!

Gluten free pizza crust was good but the pizza ordered was advertised as goat cheese and was actually a combination of goat cheese and mozzarella?! Odd Regular thin crust pizza Aj’s was a mix of spicy and mild sausage but seemed to be a but more on the mild than the spicy side :) Alcohol options were very nice! Wife had a glass if red as I enjoyed an IPA. Small space so don’t bring a crowd and no baby changing stations in bathrooms provide a negative as we were asked to change the baby in the bathroom floor?!? No…
