Take Me To Tilly’s Tilly’s is a brand-new store in The Loop shopping complex that just opened this week. It looks to sell clothes in the vein of the Hot Topic franchise, just minus all the licensed tees. The Good: Punk minus Logos: Am I the only one who misses the days where rock n’ role and punk style meant more than just wearing a logoed tee? I mean all of Hot Topic seems overrun by name brands, which seems like it defeats the purpose. However, Tilly has really basic patterned shirts with layer shirt and tanks to go with. Bring the Fam: This place has clothes and accessories that are generally aimed at the younger teen sect, but they make apparel for kids as young as preschool to adult sizes. The Bad: Size Control: It’s silly to think that all sizes are standard in modern department stores, and every girl knows where she fits into a size 7 versus a size 11. But when someone who usually takes a size M-L ends up needing a XXL for a comfortable fit(true story!) it just feels a little extreme. Sticker Shock: Prices, especially for layers are way too expensive. I mean $ 12 for an ensemble tank(that you can get at Target for $ 5-$ 6) is just a little much. Tilly’s is a nice alternative to stores like Hot Topic. You can really appreciate the focus on fashion versus the branding, but the sizes and prices still favor the rich and skinny.
