New GM has been hired and this location is turning around very quickly. Nick is doing a great job! Service, as well as staff, has definitely improved.

I came here to catchup with some friends and everything from the food/drinks to the service was pretty average. I ordered a Strawberry Lemonade Sangria, which was decent. I will say that it wasn’t very strong and most of the glass was filled with ice. My friend and I split the Spinach Artichoke Dip, which was below par. The chips seemed almost stale and I’ve had better dip from the Tostitos Dip-Etizers that I’ve grown to love throughout college. The server we had was kinda strange. He was pretty nice because he checked in on us quite frequently. My only complaint was that I think he might need to get his hearing checked… He got one of my friend’s orders wrong because he misheard, and when I very clearly said that I didn’t want another sangria he brought me one anyway cause he thought I did. The place wasn’t even that loud, so we were all a bit confused.

My first visit will certainly not be my last! I met my cousin here for a girls night happy hour/dinner and found seats surprisingly at the bar, which wasn’t very crowded at the particular time we walked in. They have great specials for happy hour: half off select appetizers, discounts on various drinks. We caught the waitress, gave our orders and sat back to enjoy. Then the crowds started and it was hard to get anyone’s attention. I highly recommend they put more people behind the bar so they can serve the people they need to in a timely manner. We ordered the buffalo chicken flatbread(delicious), the dip trio with chips(yummy), a turkey burger(way too greasy) and tater tots(nice and crispy). It took some time to get the bill but it was all squared away the way it needed to be. Parking is available in the lots around the area, the closest one is the amtrak station.

It’s ok. Place is clean and nice inside. Just not a fan of any of their bars. They always seem boring.

The food looked great but never got the chance to experience it, the server was pretty much a ditz brain. She should have written things down, got things totally mixed up and told the kitchen staff a totally different story on why the order was wrong. Towards the end of my drinks I spoke to the management and told them what happened, they were very polite in aiming to make things right and said the server gave them a totally different story. WOW never going back there again

My most recent visit was just cocktails. We were meeting friends for custard at Andy’s and finished shopping in Kirkwood early so we stopped by Bar Louie. It was a Sunday, so I enjoyed a Bloody Mary and my friend had a Mimosa. Lucky her, they had a promo going on for unlimited Mimosa’s and she slammed a couple down before we crossed the street for custard. Unfortunate for me, not such a deal. However, I did enjoy an amazing Bloody Mary made with Absolute Peppar. Service was great and attentive. They kept the cocktails flowing.

Went here on a first date, I had never been before. I really liked the area and the outside seating, definitely seems like a nice place to hang out for somewhat of a more chill bar experience.

Sadly this is such a great location and meeting place and it doesn’t live up to its hype. I frequent here when people need a convenient place to meet and have never left thinking it was great service. The food is blah and the service is 9 out of 10 times terrible. For some reason I keep going back. Wish this place could pull it together.

Worst service ever. I went to Bar Louie as another Kirkwood restaurant had an hour wait; I quickly found out why Bar Louie had immediate seating. After having our food delivered we waited for five minutes to see if our waitress would come as we didn’t have silverware or condiments. I had to go inside and ask for silverware. The food was okay but the service was horrendous. I’ll wait an hour next time I’m dining in Kirkwood.

Looking forward to my favorite drink — menu said fresh raspberries. «they ran out» says server. Instead they substitute with week old strawberry. Sad looking drink on a warm sunny Sunday afternoon. Disappointing

Went for brunch. I didn’t have the pancakes but almost everyone else did. They tasted like they were frozen and then microwaved. The waitress said they make them(microwave them?) in house. I find that SOHARD to believe. I’d love proof. Waitress said she’d keep the coffee flowing. Everyone’s cups were empty. And no pre-bussing at all. We sat for about 30 minutes(while their credit card machine was down) while flies swarmed our empty plates. We only dined here because it was close to our fitness class but next time we’ll definitely go out of the way to go elsewhere(Sqwires!)

Nice location, interesting interior, and really average food. I had the fried chicken melt with fries. The chicken was under seasoned and the chili mayo was flavorless. The fries came right out of a bag of frozen fries. They were slightly soggy and totally bland. My lunch date had a burger and he said it was okay. I asked for no lettuce and tomato and got both. My date asked for mayo on the side and didn’t get it. There was no salt or pepper on the table. Each of us had a soda and a beer. Our sodas were never refilled and our server never inquired as to whether we wanted a second beer.

We went to Bar Louie for a lunch. Our table of 8 sat outside on a beautiful day in the shade of the building and an umbrella. Our server was clearly spread out between tables inside and outside and probably had to walk the length of the restaurant several times to make her rounds, so we didn’t see her very frequently. I made the mistake of asking for a gluten-free menu AFTER she had brought out drinks(I should have done it before), because that added 20 minutes to the time it took to place orders. Thirty minutes later, our food wasn’t yet ready but the sun had moved so that we are all getting warm, so we asked to move inside. Our server was able to accomodate us, for which I was grateful. All dishes except one — a coworker had ordered fish skewers or something like that — arrived about 15 minutes later, so we had been at Bar Louie more than an hour between sitting and the food arriving. I was surprised — it didn’t look particularly busy but it’s hard to see all tables from one spot. The fish lunch arrived 10 minutes after and our server ended up comping it for taking so long. I was frustrated to find that, after asking for a gluten-free menu and asking for a a gluten-containing item to be removed from it during ordering, my salad still came out with a big chunk of crusty, crumbly bread on top of it. If our server had been around more and the food come out more quickly I would have asked for it to be rebuilt, but I pulled it off and scraped out anything that looked like breadcrumbs. The portion of the salad was disappointing, probably 70% the size of a similar salad at Joey B’s, and I feel that I’m just full enough from it. The items that my fellow diners liked were the thai chicken flatbread and the fish skewers. One diner liked his mac’n’cheese, the other wasn’t moved either way. The two sandwiches that were brought weren’t enjoyed — one stopped eating about ½ way through. Everyone did say that the tater tots were good. Our server was efficient with the tickets, but rang mine up incorrectly as having chicken(which is somehow $ 4 more for what’s probably 3 oz chicken). I gave her my credit card before looking at it, which was dumb but I was in a hurry to leave, so I told her to correct the ticket and keep the difference as tip. I may be a jerk for doing that(though if she made the correction she received a $ 4 tip on a $ 9 salad), but this lunch took nearly 2 hours and at this point we had already moved several meetings and really needed to get back to work. I would not return to Bar Louie for anything other than a Happy Hour. I was really disappointed with the pace of the kitchen, and I felt the server was overworked or under-supported and there didn’t seem to be any sense of urgency in bringing food out quickly on a lunch. This is a laid-back place for people who have time to lounge, definitely not a place for a work lunch or if you need to catch a movie.

Had dinner with my family tonight at Bar Louie. Husband ordered a salad and added chicken. I had chicken nachos. Chicken was disgusting — chewy, tasted old and like it had been reheated. Kids both had sliders. Hamburger meat tasted disgusting. The location of this restaurant means they’re guaranteed traffic regardless of quality of food, experience. As a Kirkwood resident, I’d love to see another option in this space.

We stopped in for a Father’s Day lunch after learning our original choice wasn’t serving their normal menu. We were just looking for burgers and beer. Bar Louie ended up being a good choice. The rain stayed away, and we were able to sit on the patio which is spacious and nice. My husband and I both ordered the Louie Burger, which was topped with provolone, grilled onion, and spicy giardiniera. We ordered medium well, but they were definitely well done. Otherwise the burger was pretty good.(And I LOVE that they offer tots as a side choice!!!) My daughter ordered the voodoo chicken plate and enjoyed it, yet expected a little more spice. Service was good. It wasn’t a place that swept us off our feet, causing us to think ahead about another visit. However, it was a positive experience and a viable choice for us again when in the area.

Love Bar Louie’s happy hour! You can’t go wrong with half-priced martinis(and if you do, at least you won’t remember it). Flatbread pizzas and other apps are discounted during HH too; combined with outdoor seating & one heated outside table, Bar Louie in St. Louis is a win/win for relaxing evenings!

Had appetizers and drinks with my family last night. The food was pretty good and so were the drinks. The dirty martini with the blue cheese olives was a welcome change. We also had the BLT Bloody Mary, it comes with skewered bacon, olive, provolone, pickle and a lime. I would have given them four stars but our waiter seemed inexperienced… he was not Johnny-on-the-spot with the drinks.

I wish I could give this place a 3.5 star rating. Every time I’ve been here, service has been a 4, and food has been a 3. I’m rounding down to 3, because it’s a decent place, but not one I go out of the way to visit. Today I had their famous Mac n Cheese, I got the bacon, broccoli, and jalapeño version. The cheesy noodles are good, and the sprinkle lots of bacon on it — all good. The broccoli is very crisp and fresh, yet I would have liked it cooked a bit. The jalapeño is raw, and cut a bit too big for my liking. I would have preferred it diced a bit finer, or cooked a bit to soften the heat of the pepper. I’ve also had a burger from here and the panko crusted avocado fries. All decent eats — exactly what you’d expect. Parking can be found within walking distance. However the tiny, minuscule small lot immediately next to the restaurant and train tracks fills up quickly. Just park behind the building in one of the garages there if you need to — if you order the Mac n cheese you might need to walk off the calories! The restaurant is located next to a Kaldi’s — yum — and other eateries. In the summer, the large outdoor sitting area is full of sun worshipers soaking up vitamin D and people watching. There are also musicians who play regularly on that outdoor patio. If you’re in Kirkwood, this is a decent place to eat.

Hit and miss here. The service was very slow at lunch our server was overwhelmed and had too many tables. Nachos were fair did not have any guacamole when they came out. chios were soggy too.

This is a fun place to do happy hour, especially on Wednesday’s when beer buckets are only $ 5 all night. Service is great and friendly, the atmosphere is lively and relaxed, and the outside seating is great during the warmer months.
