Poma Fertility

We’ve been working with POMA for a couple of years started trying with natural with medicinal assistance for ovulation, then were moved on to IUI, and now to IVF. It started out ok, but felt a bit slow, and has gotten worse over time.
Scheduling can be rather difficult and has gotten worse over time. The office has practically doubled in size and Opsahl is often running from appointment to appointment and has recently become quite late to all but the earliest appointments. He is nice during the short time you get each visit, but feels rushed.
During our IUI treatment which required their most expensive package due to «the potential need for additional monitoring» we discovered that if you require more than a single monitoring visit you are charged a full ultrasound on top of the higher rate, and if the meds and checkup show it is a good idea to cancel that cycle you pay for the monitoring for that cycle rather than it being in the package. All medications are above and beyond the pricing, so the higher pricing is not helping to cover those, you end up paying more to POMA and more to the pharmacy.
During our recent IVF cycle, we were called on day 2 after retrieval, but not on day 3, and on day 5 (the day of blastocyst, biopsy, and freezing) we did not receive any calls from the nurses until well after the backup transfer appointment time, even though we were supposed to be called in the morning. We got 1 call from the embryologist just over an hour before the appointment (you have to take medication 1 hour before) because we left 2 phone messages and sent a portal/​email message, but she had little information which turned out to be moderately incorrect (we were told many embryos were almost ready but it turns out most had stopped growing by that point and they suspected they wouldn’t make it). After the cancelled transfer appointment, we received a call from one of the nurses who accused us of taking 2 vials of Cetrotide from their office and only filing for 1 to replace it, despite the doctor’s notes, the nurse’s notes, and the form the nurse gave us to fill out all said 1. She was rather rude to my wife and said «I’m not going to argue with you. So we are just gonna absorb the cost of the second syringe», which is basically saying we stole 1, even though the doctor ordered 1, the nurse checked out 1, and the nurse gave us a form for 1.
We don’t have other fertility clinics to compare it to, but are looking for another facility to complete our IVF procedure.

We absolutely love Dr. Opsahl– he’s the best! Really wish he could be our ‘our person’ for all medical needs. It took several attempts to get pregnant, and a year later it happened! The office staff are friendly. Added bonus of a smaller office is that when you check in they know your name and no formal «My name is.». Also, Poma has the best prices for this area (including Seattle).
On a minor downside… Scheduling at times was difficult. This practice does transfers every other month, which really stretched things out. However, the office has grown and maybe this is no longer current practice.
All and all, we plan to return to Poma for baby #2 when the time’s right. The wait was worth it, and we highly recommend Poma Fertility! Thank you Dr. Opsahl!!!

We loved Poma. The staff was friendly and the doctor very dedicated. As a lesbian couple (I was 37) we were nervous about our chances of conceiving due to age. We did the IUI and appreciated Dr Opsahl’s more aggressive approach. I started on clomid and did the trigger shot to speed up the process and we conceived on the first try. Our beautiful baby was born a few weeks ago! Some friends have done IUI several times without success and I feel like at Poma they really look at your overall fertility and do whatever they can to help you. We will use them again for #2 and recommended Poma to many friends!

We started our care at Seattle Reproductive Medicine, and I just didn’t connect with my doctor (she was very clinical) and didn’t feel like we were getting individual treatment. It was like we were one of thousands being treated.
Dr. Opsahl is the complete opposite. His bedside manner is superb and he makes you feel like you are his one and only patient with individual attention and treatment that is tailored to your situation. He answered all my questions/​concerns about IVF. We ended up going through IVF and getting pregnant with twins and lost one of the babies. Even though I’m sure he sees it all the time, he was still very compassionate and acknowledged our sadness and loss. We had our son in January and are very thankful to Poma for making this miracle happen! Save yourself the hassle of interviewing fertility doctors and go with Poma! They are the best!
I also like the ease of open communication through their online portal.

I LOVE Poma! I have only gotten the BEST care from everyone there. They make you feel like you are their only patient and when you need them they are there for you. This is a five star facility!

I was impressed from the start. From the front desk staff, to the nursing staff… They are amazing. Plus the office is gorgeous ;). Dr. Opsahl is the kindest man. I’m an OB nurse so I feel like I should understand more about this process, but I get overwhelmed when it comes to me being the patient. He was so patient and understanding with both me and my husband. They have an online portal which is so great and the entire staff (including Dr. Opsahl) are super quick to reply to your emails. We are just getting started in this process, but I know we could not be in better hands. Don’t look any further than Poma for your fertility treatments. They are incredible!
UPDATE: I’m 9 weeks pregnant today (3÷3÷15)!! Our experience was unbelievable from start to finish and I cried as I left today since it was my last appointment… bittersweet. Can’t wait to go back and visit with a baby in my arms!

I have had a wonderful experience with Poma from the time I called to make my appointment to the time I visited the office. The staff has been very welcoming and friendly to me– from the receptionist, to the financial assistant and to Dr. Opshal. I felt that Dr. Opshal really helped me understand the process and explain what I needed to know, but at the same time didn’t overwhelm me.
Poma touts itself as affordable and I have to agree with this. My insurance covers absolutely nothing for fertility related needs and I’m glad to see that Poma works with you to give you different payment options, and I’m surprised that they refund options available as well.
The office keeps up communication amazingly well, both through the phone and their e-​system.
We will be starting the TTC process soon and so far I couldn’t be happier with this office.

My husband and I were previously being seen at another fertility clinic and left their care (if one can call it «care») in favor of working with Poma. We went to Poma for the low, low prices and stayed for the exceptional service.
The nursing staff at Poma is second-​to-​none! They are warm and caring. I empathize with their position as they must, at times, deal with patients who are disappointed, sad, grieving, or even angry, yet, despite all that, the staff maintain a positive and friendly attitude. That’s really quite an admirable feat. Nursing staff respond to both phone and email questions promptly and never behave as though they are being put upon when asked what is likely a question they’ve heard hundreds of times before.
Dr. Opsahl is a skilled professional who I trusted to be a capable partner in our journey to pregnancy. My trust was well-​placed. He and the nursing team selected an IVF drug protocol that yielded exceptional results and I truly felt I was in good hands throughout the entire IVF process.
Dr. Wiemer, the embryologist, and his team, kept us apprised of our embryos’ development and explained their part of the process to us as if I weren’t the 200^th patient to whom they’d explained the very same thing. They were genuinely kind, showed us they had a vested interest in our success, and I felt as though, in their care, our embryos were getting the best chance they could to develop successfully.
I’m in the «advanced maternal age» category. As a result of the Poma team’s efforts, we are pregnant.
Poma is an option to be seriously considered.
UPDATE: I birthed our beautiful baby boy in spring 2015. He’s, of course and in my wholly unbiased opinion, perfect in every way. :) We introduced our newborn son to the Poma team shortly after his birth and thanked them for helping us to build our family. Our lives are profoundly changed for the better thanks to Poma.

Wow. The lady I spoke with on the phone was short with me, and rude. I felt like I was bugging her by calling. My husband and I need IVF, and have been trying now for a child 3 years. We have the cash for IVF, and I was ready to schedule but this lady gave me a sick feeling in my stomach. IVF and infertility is a very hard, emotional rollercoaster ride, and I would hope everyone at these clinics would be warm and welcoming, which she was NOT. I will not be calling them back. On to the next one…

We came to Poma after relocating from California. Our experience with an IVF clinic in CA had not been very personal and we frequently faced packed waiting rooms and the feeling of being just another number. What we found at Poma was quite the opposite, we were taken under their wing and had our hands held through the entire process. We became part of the Poma family.
Dr Opshal is a kind and caring man, who shares his personal experience as well as the medical facts in an easy to understand manner. To compliment Dr Opshal the nursing team is absolutely phenomenal. Sara was always available to calm my stress, deliver hugs and wipe away my tears whenever needed. Her sensitive, caring approach made the highly stressful times more bearable. In addition I should also mention that the nurses, Jessie and Eden, were equally as caring and I could feel them willing our treatment to work! After egg retrieval we also received multiple detailed calls from the embryologist Dr Wiemer as we waited anxiously for our embryo’s to develop. The personal care we received from the entire team was beyond anything we had experienced before.
We initially contacted Poma because of their affordable pricing structure. Our known egg donor cycle was more than 50% lower that we were told in would be in CA. In addition Poma expertly coordinated treatment, medication and cycles for myself and my donor while residing in two different countries and we are delighted to be included in their 2014 success rates!

Dr Opsahl is wonderful! After going to Pacific NW fertility for over a year and was not really getting anywhere, we decided to proceed with ivf with Poma Fertility. I felt confident with Dr Opsahl and his experience. Even though the clinic is new, he’s been doing this for many many years! With any fertility center, success is key: Poma has a high success rate and on top of that– affordable treatment. Their prices were much lower than pacific nw. My first ivf fet was a success and am currently happily pregnant! IVF is a tough emotional process but going to a Dr that cares and a staff that treats you like part of the family is definitely a plus! Dr is very friendly and open but very professional. Will definitely go back for my frozen embryos!
