Great BBQ. I am from Houston and there are not a lot of good places to chose from. Brisket and chicken have great flavor. Parking can be tough, but discovered there was parking the back. Easy to pass up, so you have to be on the look out.

The most consistent BBQ ever. The brisket is always to perfection. We have been coming here for years. Love it.

We picked up a few pounds each of brisket and ribs, some sausage, beans and cole slaw for eating at Inks Lake this past weekend. I’ve sampled their stuff once before and thought it was worth giving it a full shot. It was a unanimous hit! The ribs were the standout, great flavor and tender as can be. The brisket was very moist and delicious. The only knock here is as other have mentioned, most of it ends up not as slices but as crumbles. The slices I managed to uncover were outstanding. Just a gentle tug and the moist meat separates and melts in your mouth. The sausage was ok, nothing remarkable really. My kids who usually eat mostly sausage didn’t like the flavor. Beans were basic but good. Cole slaw is generic, but certainly nothing wrong with it either. I will most definitely be returning here when in the area. I’m a huge BBQ person, taking road trips just for it, and never pass one of the legendary places without having some. I will not be passing near Spyke’s without stopping either. Highly recommend.

Pretty good meat, very good sauce sides. The outdoor tables improved everything. Not enough smoke for my taste but worth another visit.

Brisket is pretty good but it can be a little dry at times. Ribs are not bad also. The smoked chicken is really good. I have ordered the chicken many times and it is always tender with a nice smoke flavor. One thing, I wish they would not use an electric knife to cut the meat Overall, Spyke’s is pretty good BBQ.

For Kingsland, the BBQ is good! Not the best around, duh, Cooper’s in Llano is best, but for a small local place it’s really good. It’s like home cooked BBQ, not like a chain restaurant at all. The beans are really good, the loaf of bread is fresh, and chopped brisket is great!!!

This is absolutely the best barbecue I have ever eaten. I live in Texas and have had a lot of barbecue. The meat needs no sauce even though their sauce is fantastic. The beans and potato salad are also the best. You’ll love. I promise.

The locals and regulars go mad for this but it was mediocre at best it wasn’t restaurant quality but was was ok I had BBQ brisket on a potato which was nice and my boyfriend had the ribs which he wasn’t really impressed with, reminded me of boiled meat then some sauce plopped on top. I think too it’s because they were pork and not beef. The bbq sauce was really good though. Sweet and tangy.

My sliced brisket plate was really enjoyable, but the half smoked chicken my boyfriend got was absolutely incredible — cooked to perfection! The entire staff was very helpful and friendly to us first-timers. Will be coming back next time we’re in the area!

I love this place! I would say that their brisket rivals any of the Texas greats. Overall it’s some of the best BBQ I’ve had and that’s saying a lot considering the lifetime love that I’ve had with BBQ growing up in west Texas. The staff is super friendly and it’s a very comfortable & relaxed environment. Oh, and perfect sweet tea… This place has it all!

Brisket? Great taste. Plenty of black pepper in the bark and it’s more than moist. But the electric knife they’re using just shreds the brisket into chopped beef. The ribs are also pretty decent. Both the ribs and the brisket have a good pepper kick and are cooked thoroughly. Both could also some more smoke flavor, though. The sauce isn’t anything to write home about. Slightly vinegar taste contrasted with some sweet, possibly honey. Definitely could use some work. All in all, not the worst option if you’re out that way — and also some of the most inexpensive BBQ I’ve found.

Not good ATALL. I am a born/bred Texan and a BBQaholic. i have had all kinds of BBQ from a variety of places and styles. THIS was the worst BBQ restaurant I have ever eaten at. The brisket was bland and SALTY. This stuff had so much salt that my lips cracked after taking a few bites. It was horrible. And the strangest thing, it was tender but DRY. The meat fell apart like a good BBQ brisket should but it was dry as a bone. The potato salad was pretty good, the beans were bland and the banana pudding tasted like something out of a can. The pudding was so nasty that my 12 year old garbage disposal son would not eat it, he literally eats EVERYTHING. I also hated the serve yourself buffet style food. A loaf of bread that EVERYONE and their uncle was sticking their hands in while others were coughing on the sides. The service was just OK, the lady cutting the meat seemed bitter and annoyed to be serving me but the cashier and lady who«handed» me my food were nice. I am still not sure why there was one person cutting/plating the meat and another handing it to you over the counter. That was just WEIRD, especially when we had to sit outside because the inside was full. Wouldn’t it be better to have that person on the floor? if they got rid of the serve yourself counter they could have more tables and their employees could make more money in tips. Bottom line: Too expensive, bad food, sucky atmosphere. I gave it 2 stars for cleanliness and nice staff with the exception of the meat cutter.

Visiting from out of town and wanted some BBQ. Ordered the 2 meat plate w/Turkey and ribs and my husband got the ribs & sausage. Ribs were nice and Turkey was seasoned perfectly. My husband liked the sausage. The beans were OK for me but I surprisingly loved the potato salad. The BBQ sauce was different than what I was use to, but I appreciated it. We also ordered banana pudding and the cobbler. The pudding didn’t taste good at all to me but I’ve never been much of a fan of it anyway. The cobbler was tasty, although I wished I had more crust. I definitely see us making another stop in before heading out

Excellent BBQ totally! I have a lake home right near by and not only is it good BBQ but a short walkover. People are very friendly and you are given ample sizes of food. I’m originally from the the town in Texas known as the Capital of BBQ and this is in that bracket. They just don’t get all the media attention of places like Coopers in Llano, Kruez Market in Lockhart and Smitty’s in Lockhart but darn right good and very much full of favor.

My wife and I seem to drive to or through Kingsland quite a bit and have noticed Spyke’s. We wanted barbeque the other day and made the drive. This is a typical barbeque spot with meat and sides«on a line.» We ordered the rib plate and were pleasantly satisfied with the great-tasting rub that needed no sauce. I did try the sauce though because I try the sauce wherever I eat barbeque. The potato salad and coleslaw were«right out of the bucket,» but had a good taste. I will try the beans next time. The price was comparable to other local joints, and we’ll definitely return. They are only open during an extended lunch period, so don’t go looking for dinner. The staff is friendly, which is a plus for me. They have limited parking when it’s busy.

Wow, that’s all I could say as I walked out after practically being refused service. Let me explain, my boyfriend and I, having just visited the winery a few miles away where we had a glass of wine each but left in search of food, went into Spyke’s thinking we could find some tasty local food. Or at least that’s what we hoped for. We walked in expecting to be seated when the young woman in the open area stated that we could order at the counter to the left. I asked about seating and she said«Sure» and gestured to several unoccupied tables. We sat and realized that there was no table service, so my boyfriend went to the counter and ordered. When he was told there were two sides with the meat instead of one, he came back to ask me what I would like, so I followed him to the counter where there was a second young woman ringing in orders. The options were: Beans, Potato Salad, Cole Slaw, Macaroni Salad. Since I had already asked for the cole slaw I asked what was in the potato salad. I got an eye-roll and was told«Uhm, potatoes… and mustard…» the other girl piped in «I think there’s celery or something in it too» as she scoops up some in the tray to the side of the register. Since the potato salad looked 1000x better than the macaroni, I placed the order. We sat back down and started chatting about the day and our plans for the rest of the weekend when we were yelled at that our take out order was ready… Did we not make every indication that we wanted to sit and eat like the two other tables that were eating in the restaurant? Maybe they shoved us out the door because they didn’t want to deal with people dining in… maybe they didn’t want to take the time to microwave the beans that my boyfriend ordered, or either of our meat orders… or maybe they didn’t want to have the complication of cars in the parking lot… or they just didn’t care, whatever the reason be, it was incredibly rude. On top of the horrible service the food was mediocre. Not only were the meat and beans cold, the bbq sauce to go on top of it was vinegar-y. The cole slaw and the potato salad were both very under seasoned, apparently one of the ingredients that the girls could not remember was unfortunately not salt and pepper. Other than being cold, the beans tasted like they came straight out of a can from the supermarket. Maybe the meat would have been good had it not been topped with pickle juice, but I will never know.

Best BBQ I ever had… even my wife stated the same, and hers truly is fantastic! Only thing I had that could be improved upon, is adding a little more flavor to the coleslaw! — Ribs, just incredible! For motorcycles, the upholstery shop next door will even let you park on their cement slab…

I totally passed this place twice after trying to find something to eat while working in the area and it was worth the annoyances of flipping around because I am blind! This is absolutely a great«secret» for those that don’t live in the area and I want to make sure it’s not a secret anymore. The William’s Special(Frito pie w/Brisket) — awesome — The chicken is great and the jalapeño sausage will make your lips tingle. From the sides to the desserts I was so glad this is where my $$ went that day. Great portions, friendly service, and hometown feel. I pity the fool that doesn’t eat at Spyke’s — ok that was a little overboard but you get my drift!

We heard about this place from some locals when in the area. Spyke’s has some really good brisket that is(in my opinion) the best I’ve had if you want something that looks a little leaner. The fixin’s are great too. Highly recommended if you’re somehow in Kingsland.

Became a fan instantly when I tried Spykes. I drove past it weekly for quite a few months making deliveries. So I finally stopped and tried it. The BBQ was great, portions were great, a bit expensive, but worth the weekly splurge. Everytime I go by Kingsland, I know for sure I will hit spykes up for lunch!
