This is my favorite place to eat in the Appleton area. Great menu, great staff, and an awesome outdoor area.

Classic dark sports bar that serves up bar food, but at the same time they offer a very expansive menu. I went for the Jalapeño burger with french fries, and I was not disappointed. The burger was very large and had great toppings that delivered just what I expected. Their fries were crinkle-cut, and although not my favorite style, were very good and nicely done. Plus, on a Thursday afternoon, they were not busy at all, so it’ll definitely be a place for a quicker lunch in the future. On Packer games however, you can’t find a spot to park. I haven’t gone here for one yet, but the atmosphere I’m guessing is vintage Wisconsin Packer bar.

Best fish around, good portion and never greasy. Try the baby pike, your choice of fries or onion rings, or combo. all the sandwiches are great, and good portion. Food always hot and fresh, serving time from order time is predictable, and timely. Sit poolside, swim, relax, enjoy.

The burgers are classic bar food and were exactly what I was craving but the service is rather slow. Its a bit confusing where to check in to be seated in the dining room.

I was actually shocked when I saw that Tanners was rated #1 on Unilocal in the valley. Their food quality has really dropped off, as has their service. They offer decent average food… make sense? Nothing fancy, but everything was average or better. It’s too bad the mill closings have impacted many businesses as they obvioulsy had a huge negative impact on Tanners. The service here is about the worst I have ever seen. I travel 3 weeks a month and eat at restaurants way too often. The last 2 times I went to Tanners were disasters and I will not be going back. Have you ever waited 1.5 hours to get 4 burgers for your family… one of them 4 years old… in a 50% empty restaurant? Well I have… twice!!! I gave them 1 star, only because I couldn’t give them 0.

Tanner’s offers a nice menu, and is now SMOKEFREE! The first review from ’07 is out of date. Tanner’s took a leap and got rid of the nasty smoke(they REALLY needed to do this). They still offer good food– pizza, fish frys, sandwiches and drinks are good. They have a large indoor(and also outdoor volleyball facility) as well as an outdoor deck. They sometimes feature live entertainment and have some good bands and comedians. I know the Happy Schnapps Combo played there and a number of regional bands.

Again, if it’s outside the city limits of Appleton, you can smoke inside. And smoke everyone does. Go in, make your way through the smoke and old time day drinkers and you will find a wide variety of beers and drinks that are good, strong and cheap. We sat on the outside patio, overlooking the huge volleyball courts(a hot thing to do here in the summer) and ordered a sampler of appetizers: mozzarella sticks, buffalo wings, fried broccoli and cheese, chicken tenders, taquitos stuffed with mashed potatoes, cheese and bacon, and potato skins. All were yummy, though my favorites were probably the mozzarella sticks. Service was good and I imagine that in the evenings this is the place to be.
