My wife and I decided to go out for seafood on our vacation. Considering the amount of great food for the price, this place beats the other restaurants. Delicious and great atmosphere.

Love everything about this place. Great food for the price. Usually go for and early dinner and have no problem seating a party of 14!

The crab legs were AMAZING! So incredibly fresh and even big! I was tempted to think they were king crab at one point! All there other sea food options were amazing and flavorful. Everything was cooked to perfection. The corn bread was the best thing I have ever had!!! The only down fall was the salad bar, very limited options and not fresh. But who needs salad at a seafood buffet! and the dessert options, cannot say enough about them!!!

The buffet is expensive(~35 $ per person), but it’s worth every penny. Excellent food, wide variety, and all you can eat. Make sure to visit this place during your stay in the outer banks!

This was our second time at this location today. Last time we were here was 4 years ago. Definitely not disappointed, there are plenty of options if you do the buffet. They have everything from snow crab legs, whole crabs, clams, and so on. Our server Savannah was very good and fast. We aren’t from here just on vacation and this will always be our go to restaurant when we are in town.

Typical buffet, if really they want to be a true seafood buffet just crab legs and a few other seafood offerings do not cut it. We had a group of 14 and the room allocated was good for 10 maybe. We were there early and the waitress was informed of our cramped quarter and did nothing when tables were available to move the whole time we were there… good for the vacationer that wants to say that they had seafood at the beach but for a meal at that price we would have been better served going somewhere else.

This was one of the worst buffets I have ever been to. I love seafood, and this was so bad, I had three servings of Caesar salad to fill up. The wait staff was very nice however.

Again I must’ve missed something based on their 4.5 stars. I’m not exaggerating when I say this was some of the worst food I’ve ever experienced. We’re not food snobs either but we do know when food is bad! The*only* good thing was our server Ashley. She was a dear. The seafood buffet was seriously lacking. There was more American food, salad and desserts than what’s expected of a *seafood* buffet. There were 3 – 4 things in shells, two crab legs, a casserole, a salad or something, a couple broiled fishes, some other odd things. Then there were the fried options. Shrimp and scallops that you could’ve played jacks with. Oysters coated all thick and crunchy like fried chicken. One… only one fried fish option: Pollock. Seriously no flounder?!? The best seafood dish was the oysters Rockefeller. That is until the next batch came out. I wish I had taken a pic. The oysters were shriveled up into a little round ball in the middle of the shell with the filling and cheese flat on the shell(basically none) and burnt. It was an awful sight. My husband then tried to find something from the regular food to eat. I mean $ 32 ya know! He got the mashed potatoes that he said had a chemical taste and a BBQ rib that he could only eat one bite because of the bad flavor. I got some mac & cheese and I swear to you it had to be doctored up boxed kind because I could absolutely taste the powder flavor. We ended up eating dessert to have something edible. After the tip, which the server deserved because she didn’t make that gross food, we almost burnt a $ 100 bill! What got me was the managers walking around with their little walkie-talkies. I’m not sure what they were managing but it was dang sure not food quality. All I can say is if this place is supposed to be the«best» then I sure wouldn’t want to try the others! We ate on our way out of town so that was our last chance to have some good local seafood. My gosh we couldn’t get over how bad it was. I joked that when we left the manager said«have a good night» instead of «how was everything» because he already knew what mess he was peddling. Not sure how to find decent seafood though since I relied on Unilocal and it didn’t work out for us in this case. If you decide to eat there after reading this good luck!

My wife and I come here just about every time we come to OBX. It’s a hit or miss restaurant. We only come all the time for the crab. Sometimes the food is pretty good, sometimes it’s not that great. Tonight was one of not so great nights. It would be less upsetting if we didn’t drop $ 100 on food we could’ve gotten at another local restaurant for half the price including tip. The service was ok but it’s not like they did anything special. If we do go back, I’ll probably just order something from the menu. At least it would be cheaper, hopefully it’ll taste better too. Also, banana pudding is supposed to be pudding, not a gelatinous mass with bananas that have the texture of rehydrated, dehydrated bananas… eh I’ve had better for far less money.

I had my rehearsal dinner here. Some of the food was okay, some not good, and a lot got cold really fast once back at the table. If you’re a big crab legs fan, they’re by far the best food available, so I mostly just ate those. The reason why this was a 4-star visit instead of 3 is the treatment of my friend. She is vegan and was worried about what she could and could not eat. When she mentioned it to the waitress, who went to ask, the chef came out and walked my friend around the buffet, pointing out what dishes had what in them and what she could eat. It was very courteous and professional of them, and it meant a great deal to my friend. If you’re looking for mind-blowing seafood on the OBX, sorry but this is not the place. However, the staff was nice, and the crab legs were awesome, so it’s wort a stop, especially when you have 20 people who all eat different things.

If you are a Northerner like myself and visit the Outer Banks? You seriously need to try the experience of a Seafood Buffet at least once during your visit. And don’t let the price put you off — most places in the area your going to end up spending some $$ on dinner, so you might as well suck it up and check this place out. When we finally crossed that Wright Memorial Bridge on Saturday afternoon… we were tired, hungry and beyond frustrated. I totally forgot about the traffic on «Turnover Day». Sweet Mary mother of god. Anyways, we had some time to kill before picking up the keys to our rental. This place was a saving grace. I don’t think I’ve ever seen my boyfriend so excited by a place to eat before. Because it was only the two of us and about 3pm, we got seated immediately. During that time, larger parties had no problems getting seated. Oddly enough, this place made such a great impression the first time that we went that we returned the same week 3 more times for dinner. During these times(6pm or later), we noticed that while we still didn’t have troubles getting seated, larger parties had to wait. And wait with patience they did. Pretty decent selection of seafood, and they certainly kept it coming. Crab legs were always fresh and hot, because the hoard of hungry people just kept clearing them out. The salad bar was nominal, and they offered a variety of sides and veggies. The variety of offerings is part of the reason why I was charmed. If I can make a suggestion on something that you *have* to try, it would be the German Chocolate Cake. This is worth every calorie, although I doubt you should worry about calories if you come to Capt. George’s while on vacation. It has now been 6 weeks sense our last dining experience at Capt. George’s. This will be the first place where I will stop at when I visit the Outer Banks next year. Not the Food Lion, not Super Wings, but this place.

If you love seafood buffets this is the Holy Mecca of them all. I walked in and was almost crying tears of joy from all the type of crab legs and oysters and clam shells that were avaliable. The food was excellent and service was really good. Thats why im giving this place a Wordsters 5 star in my book. If your ever in Outer Banks North Carolina tell them Brandon sent ya.

Been here a couple of times already and both times service and food have been solid. Place is clean and the staff is very friendly with great customer service. Our waitress, Whitney, took care of us with impeccable service. Our drinks never went to half full, our crab shell plate was always emptied, and she was always available when we needed her– Kudos to her! There was a table besides us that had trouble cracking their crab legs, so their waitress came out with hot fresh legs straight from the kitchen and she cracked some of the legs for them! That is what I call going above and beyond! This review is mostly for the excellent service that I observed here today. It’s a buffet, so nothing exciting to write about besides it having plenty of seafood and other variety of meat options.

I came here not expecting much but I was pleasently suprised at how fresh and tasty their seafood was. Of course the crab legs are the go-to item here. They are steamed perfectly and have a wonderful sweet flavor. I also had a few more of their prepared seafood dishes, and aside from some of them being way too salty, they were on the whole fresh and delicious. We also had great service. Our waitress Katie was constantly refilling our drinks and taking our decimated crab bits. We also viewed the buffet being cleaned almost incessantly. I was very impressed by how clean the restaurant is. My only gripe is the desserts could seriously use some work. Other than that I was a fan of Captain George’s and will be back again for a crab leg smörgåsbord.

Whoaaaa. Way down the drain. Service tonight was ok from our servers. But the cattle herding from the manager and lobby staff made it clear they just don’t care about customers during their«we’re minting money» season. They’re swimming in tourists, so why worry about the people who own homes here, spend dozens of weeks a year here, and are their winter time bread and butter? I have reduced my four stars to just two. That’s based on their inability to keep up with their buffet, and their lack of concern for customer service. How disappointing. They used to be high on my list. Service and how you treat people is everything in hospitality. This place is a fail. Today, that’s on both food quality and people. And it starts with employing girls up front who actually give two shakes about their customers. Manager/owner was no better.

Go there expecting a buffet and you won’t be disappointed. It was all you can eat and they keep up with everything, I never saw an item missing, and it was all fairly well prepared for a buffet. The service was on top of everything at the table too. Never had an empty drink and they were constantly clearing plates and empty shells. We didn’t eat much of a lunch and went for an early dinner, very lucky we did as we had no wait and soon after there was a line at the door. Great place for a large group, and kids.

I like seafood. I’ve been known to frequent buffets. But Captain George’s was a miss. The experience is generally unpleasant, the hostess crew a bit clueless, and the food subpar for the cost. The Unilocal page said that they take reservations. In retrospect, it’s pretty obvious why they don’t do reservations. There’s no telling when a table will clear up. It was a mob, with cafeteria-style food and seating. Loud and confusing, this is not a place to bring a young family or group of people. Calling ahead so that I could pick the right place for my senior parents and young child and niece, I was told that there might be a 15 minute wait for the time we planning on arriving. We decided to come earlier to beat the crowds. 35 minutes later, we were buzzed into the funnel like cattle. Seafood doesn’t do well under heat lamps. The food I had, and I tried a lot of stuff, was overcooked, chewy, and salty. The steamed crab legs had been boiled too long. The steamed spiced shrimp were tough and nasty. The non-seafood turned out a lot better, but I can get that at any buffet restaurant for one-third the price. The dessert was great. I guess if you’ve got to get one thing right, make it the dessert. Overall, extremely disappointing for all the hype on Unilocal and the price. Just silly. You’ll get more mileage elsewhere.

Came last year during the summer and wow, it was truly amazing! I LOVE seafood and I def got it here! Very juicy, hot and ready! The staff is very friendly and they do work hard. The food is great, not bad at all! You def get what you pay for. Their wine selection is okay. I didn’t like their moscato, it was very dry and it left you with a bitter after taste. Overall, you can def pig out here and still be one classy lady! I will DEF be returning! Yes, yes, YESSS!

I can’t get enough of Captain George’s Seafood Restaurant! Unlimited crab legs, fried everything, clams, oysters, various desserts, and salads so you won’t feel completely awful about yourself after leaving the restaurant. The waitress we had was soooo nice and frequently visited our table to clear plates and ensure we had plenty to drink. The food is sooooo good! The only con: the steamed clams were a little too rubbery for my taste, but I’m willing to give them another try. Don’t expect to come to a SEAFOOD buffet and pay a couple bucks for your meal… that’s just silly and unrealistic. It’s about $ 32 per person plus drinks and well worth it. Get your money’s worth by stocking up your plates and dig in.
