You will not get a better sub in Monmouth county. I have been going here for over 30 years and it has not changed– which is a great thing. The bread is always fresh– the portions are substantial and the guys behind the counter have been the same since I was in elementary school. Such a great small town, family business that serves a great product. They are our go to for Super Bowl, birthday parties or anytime we just want a great sandwich. Our North Jersey family is always happy when we serve these at family events.

Driving through Keyport with my wife I noticed the huge sign on the side of the building advertising their Subs. I vowed to come back and try it. First impressions on walking into Mike’s was the fresh smell of vinegar that wafted out of the door when it was opened. This place was kept in very clean condition. It almost felt like there was something missing because it was so clean. Their menu is on the wall and has all sorts of different combinations however they are mostly centered around the classic Italian style sandwich(Some kind of Ham, some kind of Salami and mostly provolone cheese). When I gave my order of Cappicola, Salami and Provolone he said«half a #6». I wonder why they don’t put the numbers up on the board? The Italian style sub was classic NJ. They have their counter set up to make sandwiches consistent and fresh. I asked for hot peppers on my sandwich and they took a whole pickled cherry pepper and just broke it over the sandwich which I thought was strange. Why not cut it up? What makes this place special is the people who work there. If you eat in you are almost forced to be a part of the conversation. There is an old Vet«Uncle Joe» that hangs out there and talks about playing his accordion or organ. The guys from the back of the counter also were very friendly and chatted with everyone.

Local Jersey sub shop that has been in Keyport for as long as I can remember. Growing up we always went here for subs. Always fresh and consistently good. Coming here many years and never have a complaint. Great value for your money. Locals really love this place! I remember when they reopened after Hurricanes Sandy, everyone showed their support on opening day waiting in a huge line which went far out the door. That surely says something right there. Huge orders no problem just call ahead. Owner is really great and everyone working here is friendly. There is tables to eat at or grab your food and sit by the water.

No nonsense sub shop. Its not fancy, don’t expect millions of options or exotic choices. But if you want a generously portioned neatly made good tasting sub at a good value you found the spot. The place is clean and friendly. Parking is readily available in the lot across the street and you wont wait a long time for help. 1 line review is : Good value, clean, fresh and delicious. Return often.

All the great reviews are true! Finally tried this place yesterday and am so happy to finally have found a great sub place! Sandwiches were nicely made and a nice portion. Place is very clean and the staff is very friendly. You have new regular customers out of us.

It was ok. The bread didn’t have much taste to it, so I think it could be improved. I noticed the meat slicer guy trying to process two orders simultaneously, the person in front of me and me. I remember thinking, «he’s not paying to my order». Then, he was processing my order and the person behind me and I remember thinking again, «he’s not paying to my order.» Found his multi-tasking to be annoying and I don’t think it saved time. Mostly, it gave me the impression that he wasn’t focused on the current order. Also, I ordered a sub with capacolla in it. The capacolla they were using looked like regular ham. When I order capacolla, I want the real stuff, the one that shows up near the top of a web search when you search for ‘capacolla’. So, my suggestions are: * improve the taste of the bread. * stop trying to multi-task — it’s annoying to customers and it doesn’t increase the throughput. * either use the good capacolla or take capacolla out of the menu altogether.

I remember the subs being really good. I haven’t been there in a few years. When I was fishing in Keyport, I wanted to take my son there. We walked in and found out it’s a CASHONLY establishment. We had to go somewhere else to eat because I only had a credit card on me. Next time I will ave cash.

Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm. My parents frequent this business but it was my first time. I went with my parents and shared an egg salad sub with my mom. They only had whole wheat bread this day which was perfectly fine for me. The sub was huge and we definitely could have split and half sub instead of the whole. The bread was so soft and the egg salad was just right with tomatoes, onions and lettuce. We placed the order, picked it up and say at a picnic table right down by the water. Weather was perfect for outside eating with a little breeze. I can’t comment on the inside of Mike’s because I have not been inside. My dad ran in to pick it up, but I would love to try this place again!

Awesome jersey shore Italians! The large is enough for two or a hell of a meal for one! The ingredients are fresh and their bread is great. They don’t get much better than this!

Love this place. They are straight, to the point, and make fantastic sandwiches. A while back, I had a wicked food allergy and they would stop everything and clean the one slicer they had, no matter how long the line. Truly a local gem that cannot be replicated!

Can’t say anything bad about this joint. Fresh meats, bread, and the fixings. It’s definitely by far the best Sub iv had to eat and also I found out recently they do serve hot subs iv yet to try one but knowing me that will be very soon lol!

Perfect subs. Great bread, fresh meat(rare roast beef) and cheese, absolutely perfect amount of toppings that you ask for. There are no subs in the area that can compare(and I’ve looked)

Best subs anywhere. Keep it simple. Keep it consistent. And focus on what you’re good at. Yes, the menu is limited. That’s part of their success/secret. They ‘ve been here for something like 50 years. Same owners! If you want a lot of variety, go to a diner. Just about everyone has heard of Whitehouse Subs in AC. Every time I’ve been there, there’s a frigging waiting line out the door. Not knocking them mind you, they’re good, but this place has better subs –hands down.

The carnivore deep down inside of me, well not that deep down inside is always lurking right around meal time. If you have the same issue come & have it satiated at this sub shop. Sometimes there is just nothing like a good fresh sub to hit the spot especially when you’re in need of a quick bite. Mike’s is a small family run joint here in Keyport right on the water. Limited seating about 6 small 4 tops. Basic Italian style sub’s with most of the ingredients you’d expect from a sub shop and perhaps a little bit less variety unfortunately that you’d expect from a specialty deli. Limited drink options. The«Super» crams 5 different Italian meats on a freshly baked sub roll(only white) along with basic cheese choice, lettuce, tomato, onion and spices. «Oh me amore ma ma,» you’ve died and gone to sub heaven @ $ 14 for a whole. Not cheap, but not outlandish for a well packed meal. Friendly personable lightning fast service. Clean no frills dining as expected and only inside seating, but you can grab a sammich and walk over to the pier or the many benches upon the water front. Watch the boats come in or catch a few rays or drop a fishing line in while you dine. Located tactfully at the edge of town a walk about to burn some of the calories is always a great idea as well. Cash only, so don’t forget to bring some loot.

Good subs. Very simple menu so if you are looking for something exotic or different go someplace else. Seating inside is adequate and staff is nice. Not a place that I have to go back to frequently, but good for a quality sub at a good price.

I had to see what all the excitement was about. I enjoyed the sandwich and the service was great with really nice staff. The place was really clean but I found the variety to be too small and disappointed no hot subs.

I must say I love their sandwiches. All fresh bread and great service lots of laughs and they pile it on I split a half with my woman. I love the number 3 it’s an Italian and the hot peppers are just hot enough but won’t burn your mouth. I highly recommend grabbing a sub and sitting by the water and watch the boats. They are closed on Mondays but we all need a break sometime.

I came here after a morning at Sand Hook. The ham salami, cappicola, provalone special is on point. Their tomatos are particularly delicious. I’ve had better but not by much.

The sub is really good. the sub isn’t overstuffed like some of the other sub shops in the area but each ingredient is actually proportional weighted to each other; there is a tasty balance between each ingredient. The ingredients are also very fresh. The owner was talking about how he freshly cuts all the vegetables every morning.(they looked fresh and more importantly tasted fresh .) The bread was also amazing. it seems fresh and was very nice and fluffy. The owner is really nice guy. by talking to him, he takes pride in his work and restaurant. the place is very clean and it is right off the shore. there are a few seating inside but on a nice day, it would be really enjoyable to walk to the shore and just grab a seat and munch down.
