Worst dining experience I have ever had. Spent ~$ 100 and felt like i got nothing. Signed up for Unilocal just to write this. Overpriced with low quality. I will not be going back. I have been here multiple times before and always enjoyed the food but not anymore. Do not order: Shrimp and Crab Cobb salad– water ranch dressing Oysters in June — bad flavor Shrimp cocktail = 7 tiny shrimp on ice, not a cocktail Some shrimp still had veins in them…

I was looking forward to going here, because I have many fond memories of this place when I was much younger. I’m sad to say, I do not plan to return. My first mistake was that I ordered oysters as an appetizer, knowing that it is not oyster season. The waiter assured me they had fresh Gulf oysters. I understand that baked oysters do shrink, but I couldn’t even taste an oyster because they were so small! My fault for not sending them back. My main meal, coconut shrimp, was not anything exciting. The waiter was in such a hurry to get out that he didn’t bother asking if we wanted dessert which would have increased his check… ultimately increasing his tiip. I should have known that the food quality had decreased when we were only one of 3 tables at this restaraunt.

Service was great, that’s the only reason they get 2 stars. Food was horrible. Breading fell off the whole catfish filet when I cut into it. Slaw was just weird and tastes like cinnamon.

First off I want to say James our waiter was probably one of the best I’ve ever had. Very attentive. But for the food. Definitely the worst seafood I’ve ever had, under seasoned. And over priced. Appetizer was stale bread crab crochet. The rice that came with was mix of mush and uncooked. Stuffing in stuffed jalapeño wasn’t cooked. Crab and pablano pepper soup taste like it had been cooking all day. And the Mahi Acapulco just Sucked. Absolutely nothing was seasoned at all. The waiter had the manager come over and see what the problem was. So we told him and we said it was just plum horrible. He comes out and says«we’ve been in business for over thirty years. There is no way it was horrible. But I’ll check to see what happened in the kitchen.» News flash. The only freaking reason you’ve been around for thirty plus years. Is because of your location. Your a tourist trap. Tourist come and go. And you rip them off. None of the local that have ever experienced real, good food. Would or will ever eat there. As you can see from the reviews. Your track record Sucks.

Just terrible. Even by crappy tourist trap standards. The only thing more frightening than our shifty eyed gum chewing server was the deep fried salt encrusted shoe leather he found in the kitchen for us to gnaw on.

We ordered crayfish(2lbs), 1 dozen oysters, ceviche, and 1 other thing(can’t remember what), and 6 drinks, and it was $ 100. Some other reviews said their prices were bad, but I think they were good. Food was delicious. Service was very friendly, if a little slow at first b/c they’re were busy. I would recommend this place.

This place is really really good. We have 2 kinds of oysters, both cooked and raw and they were amazing and fresh. We both had soup, again great. Then our main dish, again great. Btw the shrimp kisses are amazing. Had dessert can’t go wrong with anything. Atmosphere is fun and CLEAN. Staff very nice and very Johnnie on the spot. Great management.

I have had one meal here. So maybe I am over reacting. I ordered the fish and chips, one of my favs and I judge hard as a result. It was AMAZING. Top 3 of all time for sure. Perfect flavor and texture. Everything you want in fish and chips. Even the fries were amazing. I can not tell you if anything else is good. If it all sucks I would still give this place a 4. Plus its right on the water, go during the day and enjoy yourself.

Place is nice. Our sever was not very good. She forgot the drinks then brought two dishes out and forgot the third. It’s not cool eating at different times at the dinner meal. The oysters are tiny. Fried fish was good. Stuffed jalapeño were ok.

First of all, I had a big problem with the Host/hostess. We get there Sunday around 4, we were 3 of us. I request to either be seated outside or inside which ever one is available. They give me a buzzer and say it’s about 15 mins wait. I sit down right next to them on chair and I see a party of 6 walk in, a party of 2, another party of 2 and a party of 4, that came after me they sat at the waiting area for about 2 – 5 mins and they ALL got seated before us. At that point I’m furious so I go where the tables are and I see 4 open tables; I was about to lose it. I go back to the hostess, and I ask why is it taking so long and why are people that came way after me are being seated before me. So after I complain I get seated right away. Anyways, I ordered the stuffed jalepenos and the caviche. The Caviche was awesome but the stuffed jalepenos were alright nothing special, and kinda cold. We also got crawfish which was ok too. We also got a 6 layer chocolate cake and that was good and super rich. Our waiter, I think his name was Eric, was amazing. He and the caviche are the reason this place is getting a 2 star and not 1.

Food sucks and not worth the price! My husband and I visited this restaurant because of its location on the Kemah Boardwalk. We looked at the menu outside while we decided where to eat and figured that the high price was due to the location. We’re from Chicago so due to the extensive sea food menu, we decided to try this place out anyways. The interior décor is a bit out dated but nautical, again because of the location which is on the boardwalk. The service of the staff and our waiter were good and they were attentive but it was on a slow night. The food is another story… We ordered a dozen oysters, the oysters were on the small side but still tasted good. I would have expected bigger oysters since we are on the gulf coast. We then ordered the calamari appetizer, crab bisque soup, and the ultimate seafood platter. The calamari was way too oily and very bland! You can tell that the breading was not seasoned. The soup tasted too buttery and did not have that distinct crab bisque taste or any crab in it. The seafood platter tasted bland too! The seafood platter included a stuffed shrimp wrapped in bacon(which was over cooked), stuffed crab(this was ok), fried fish(again the breeding was bland). I don’t think the food is made there because everything tastes so bland and like it would taste at a restaurant with pre prepared food. I think I would have enjoyed my food more if we would have gone to Red Lobster. Overall, the location is great but they use this to their advantage to overcharge and steal people’s money. We paid $ 65 for what we ordered not including tip and we only drank water.

The Flying Dutchman is one of those restaurants that we store up and expend for special occasions. It is situated on the Kemah Boardwalk, which is a colorful setting for evening meals when not the tourist season. The restaurant has a elegant interior that has a bit of a sea-faring edge. The staff has always been friendly and is knowledgable about the menu. The menu consists if a variety of seafood options with a unique take on standard preparations. When in season, one of our preferred dishes is the mahi with a butter sauce with crab meat and mango pico de gallo. Served with rice pilaf, the meal is savory and melts in your mouth. For a fried option, we go with the fried shrimp platter, which has shrimp prepared three ways, including coconut shrimp. They also have an enjoyable drink menu of beachy drinks and wines. From simple appetizers like calamari to decadent desserts like bread pudding, the menu offers everyone a well-designed meal that will create a wonderful eating experiencing. Regarding some reviews on here that state the food is low quality or bland, I can only guess it was a one-time incident or a result of visiting during high tourist season when the restaurants have major wait times and are overwhelmed. We have never had a bad experience with their food. The menu is expensive, which is why we are only able to enjoy it two or three times a year. A meals for two with an appetizer and dessert can be as high as $ 90. However, because we have yet to find a menu like theirs anywhere else, we don’t mind paying the higher price for a good meal when it comes to celebration. If you are looking for higher quality seafood along with a tourist-driven scenic view, The Flying Dutchman is the best option on the Kemah Boardwalk.

This place turned out to be fantastic despite previous reviews. We tried multiple oyster platters that all turned out great. My parents had snapper and a couple cold drinks on the side. The waiter staff was very attentive to our order and follow up needs. Lastly, the location couldn’t be better for an evening meal. We will definitely be revisiting the Flying Dutchman in the near future!

How to start? The only good thing to mention is the location of course… I came with my family and we ordered: — Oysters on the half shelf: good size, the flavor was not fresh at all — Oysters Dutchman: peppers and more peepers … Flavor is not bad but the oyster is lost in toppings — Caesar salad with chicken: lettuce was brown… — Salmon Rockefeller: the fish was not bad in flavor but it was cold, the sides were tasteless — Stuffed whole flounder: it seems it was prepared in advanced, taken from the fridge and put into the grill… Honestly terrible! — Grilled Yellowfin tuna: it was the best in between the worst… Btw is not only grilled it comes with a kind of red sauce that is not specified in the menu, same sides as the salmon …(Tasteless) We were very disappointed, our intention was to have a great meal after a nice walk but did not fulfilled our expectations at all. This is the type of place that will survive only because of the location. 1 star is plenty.

We were here for 4th of July. We arrived Friday and were pleasantly surprised to find a spot for the firework display and great food. We had a few drinks all of which were cold and tasteful. The summer ship menu is great! My wife had avocado shrimp(will be going back just for that) and I had the orange shrimp. Great environment, cold drinks, good food & good service.

Boyfriend has never been to Galveston so we decided to venture to the Kemah Board Walk for a late night dinner. While the board walk is a good concept for family and friends, the Flying Dutchman does not match up to the quality of food it would seem to uphold. The ambience of the restaurant is nice, especially with a relaxing patio and the service is welcoming, attentive and helpful. Everything on Kemah will be pricey, but the food we ordered here lacked in flavor so definitely not worth it. Stuffed Flounder(3⁄5) all I can really say is that it was bland. We added salt and Tabasco to add a kick to it. Raw oysters(5⁄5) probably the best thing we had. Freshly shucked and a nice size, not to big or too small, I’d say it is well worth the price. «Louisiana» Gumbo(1⁄5) quotation marks because it was definitely not Louisiana style. Ceviche(3⁄5) came out room temperature instead of cold. So the taste wasn’t as refreshing as a ceviche should be. It needed more lime juice, and chips tasted stale. Clam Chowder(4⁄5) a little bit on the salty side but overall good. Had nice chunks of potato, bacon and clams. Mojito —(4⁄5) more on the sweet side, and didn’t taste much alcohol. Maybe I got a virgin, lol. Love how I can taste the cilantro and mint though. I should’ve listened to the previous reviews, but I wanted to try it for myself… Basically, mediocre food for a fancy price.

My family and I were visiting from California, after a whole day of hanging out at the pier, we wanted a quick good dinner and Flying Dutchman was looking like a decent and convenient choice. The experience was, in one word, disappointing. PROS: –Very prime location with its outdoor patio looking out to the water –Solid portions for the price –raw oysters are well shuck, specialty cooked oysters were pretty good –that’s about… it CONS: –Very unprofessional and inefficient staff: we went outside to ask for patio seating, they told us 30 minutes because of our 10 people group size. Even though there are MANY small tables open at 8:30pm past prime time. I had to speak up and ask them to push those tables together. UHDUH. Thoughout the night, we had so much trouble flagging down the staff for items. –besides the oysters, all the other food we ordered was just mediocre at best for that price tag(ceviche, gumbo, white victorian fish) –the drinks were falsely advertised! The pictures in the menus are beautiful large cups and we received tiny plastic cups of over-priced drinks with no alcohol taste what-so-ever OVERALL, come here for the view during perfect weather at their patio, but have LOW expectations for their food and drinks. Honestly, we won’t be back.
