Good news first. Our chef was great funny and very social. Bad news. When you are paying at least $ 30 a person the level of service must be better than a McDonalds. The service was terrible. The guy who took our drink order seemed annoyed with having to do his job. He took our order and disappeared for almost the entire dinner. The young girl that brought out our drinks was the only contact we had with any service and she was too green to know what to really do. We did not get our sushi rolls or sashimi before our hibachi dinner. They forgot. We could not refill our drinks or get a second beer because no one every came around. Very disappointing. We have eaten here a few times now and the service is constantly very poor for the price tag.

Only had sushi: Went in a bit late so wasn’t expecting a lot but was surprised with how hospitable they were. My friend and I got there around 9pm on a week day and the place was fairly empty. We sat at the bar to watch the guy make/prepare the sushi. The waitress gave us a menu but the guy making the sushi was so nice and excited to have us there that he suggested items that weren’t on the menu so we went with that. The owner joined us and allowed us to try his personal stash of wasabi which was really good. I will be going back again and again based on this experience. Food is good the place is clean and the people are nice.

Even with a family of 5 on a slow Sunday they try to make you wait to order until the hibachi table is full. Waiters have some attitude when you ask to get the dinner started after 15 mins of waiting. Good all taste the same and its overly salted or MSG’ed to death. Sushi is not great either and no premium wine list. No one there understands what club soda is. C league restaurant on its best day but it’s the only one in Katy.

My wife & are repeat customers & chose to have New Year’s Eve dinner here. We were very glad we did so. When we arrived we found it to be moderately busy but nothing they weren’t able to handle. We were immediately seated at one of the hibachi tables & asked for our drink orders. The only downside to the meal was that the girl originally taking the orders didn’t know they did have water, other than just out-of-the faucet. But immediately another waitperson came up & corrected her. We were able to get what we wanted. The spring rolls we ordered were arguably the best we have ever had in both taste & temperature. The salad was ok but a little thrown together with more water in the bottom of the bowl than dressing on the lettuce, but the soup was very good. The hibachi chef then came out & did a great job with the vegetables & fried rice, while being very talented & entertaining. For our main course we had the lobster tail/filet & chicken/scallops. They were both prepared excellently & the portions were reasonable for the price. There was never a rush to finish & we left to celebrate the night very happy.

Second time here for hibachi. The hibachi here is actually fairly good, better than most hibachi places in Katy(Atami Steak & Sushi & Sushi 9). Not happy about the sushi, the presentation and taste was bad. Service was not the best but not nearly as bad as some of these other reviews say. So the stars are for the Hibachi chefs and the food they made at our table.

Ate here with my 2 kids on a slow Wednesday. The man taking our drinks didn’t understand anything we were ordering. Another lady had to come out and help him. Meals don’t come with a shrimp appetizer anymore. Fried rice has no chicken in it, no carrots and onions. Literally rice, oil, and egg with soy sauce. Everything got slathered with soy sauce… chicken, steak, rice, vegetables. If your gonna use a sauce on the meats, make it standout! Nowhere on the menu does it say chicken with SAUCE. The soup My kids and I had was cold, yet other people that came after us had hot soup. I could see the steam. My daughter wanted Benihana, but I didn’t want to drive to Sugarland. I thought this place might be a good substitute. It was so bad. We will not be back. I should have known not to stay here when we were the only table there at 6pm for dinner. I don’t get why the prices are comparable to Benihana when it is definitely a poor substitute. I wish I could get my money back!

Came for a family birthday on a slow, Sunday(early 6PM) afternoon. Everybody(I mean everybody) from hibachi chef to servers were moving in slow motion. To a person, they looked as if they would really rather be somewhere else. At the end of the meal, we had wished they were… somewhere else. Us too, for that matter. Food was AWFUL: Think nice lobster tail SOAKED in soy sauce… completely ruining taste. EVERYTHING tasted the same; from steak to rice to chicken. Chef was clearly from the«C» team. OK…you«pay for the show.» Right? There was NO show. The guy clicked his utensils around a little bit, then flamed some oil. That was it. Really. Bad food + no «show”= no return.

I’ve been to this place many times and was typically happy with my experience, until today. We were a group of 4 and the only people seated at our hibachi station. The chef comes out and starts to cook didn’t really give much of a show. He did however significantly overcook our filet’s, burned the fried rice — which left it sticky and crunchy with the taste of char, burned the shrimp — served it with black charred edges, then proceeded to sauté the veggies in the burned juices that were left on the grill coating them with greasy black flakes of char then managed to serve them almost raw. I finally mentioned something to my server who apologized and sent the manager over. The manager offered to have our food remade in the kitchen. All I could do was agree, knowing the food they would bring us may be cooked correctly but would be lacking that smokey flavor your get from the hibachi grill. And to top all that off, they are now charging you an extra $ 2.25 per hibachi meal if you want the fried rice… seriously? I feel like it costs them pennies to add the extra ingredients to the steamed rice to make it fried rice and I’m already paying $ 26 for steak made on the hibachi along with the show. There really isn’t much of a show after the fried rice is made… sooo I do appreciate that they fixed the problem but it just wasn’t worth the $ 124 we spent.

From the outside this looks like an appealing restaurant. The shopping center is in a nice area of Katy and it is only about 8 years old, BUT you would think this restaurant has been here 20 years. Carpets were torn. Service station in the middle of the restaurant. Bathrooms had cheap materials.(For some reason I like nicely appointed restrooms). Service was atrocious on this day. Long wait to order a drink. No clue how to answer basic questions on wine. Seriously long wait to order food.(They did change the TV station at our request. It was on Nickelodeon.) We chose not to go the hibachi side which was a mistake most likely. The miso soup was good. Salad dressing was not. I only tasted onion. Gyoza(dumplings) were very good. Shrimp bento box was a disappointment. Over cooked shrimp. No vegetables. California roll was OK. Combo noodles was very bland. Overly cooked meats. Waited forever for the check.

Aweful. Sushi was worse than from a gas station. Edamame was under seasoned and the shumai was tasteless.

This is definitely a first, writing the review while still sitting at the restaurant. I feel comfortable though as I am a sucker and went thru the same deal here two weeks ago. I guess karma is in fact a b*tch. As Seinfeld once said, «anybody can take a reservation, it’s the holding of the reservation that’s important». As we sit here waiting to place our drink order 20 minutes after being seated, which was 30 minutes after our reservation time, it certainly rings true. I so want to use some clever adjective to describe the service but how do you describe something that does not exist? Food is fair but for the price I expect more(portion and quality). Trust the reviews friends, you are far better going somewhere else. Panda Express maybe? At least they have a drive thru.

Tried this place for the first time and was very happy with it. There was no wait at all. We started with a caterpillar roll and a spider roll. Both were delicious. I preferred the caterpillar myself. The hibachi chef came out and put on an excellent display of his skills and had an amazing sense of humor. Very fun guy to have cooking for us. The fried rice and meats were all very good but the best was definitely the steak. It was perfect. You will not leave this place hungry or unimpressed. Definitely recommend it to anyone.

We were there tonight to have a family dinner with our family from out of town and super excited to bring them to this restaurant. From the time we walked in the door the service was awful. It took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge we were even there. We were finally seated and again it took over 15 minutes for anyone to come over and ask for our drink order. We decided to order our dinner at the same time as our drinks because we were afraid to let him go because we had no idea when he would be back to take our dinner order. When the chef came over to cook our hibachi we still hadn’t received our soup or salad. When our dinner was ready they dished up the ones who ordered the hibachi and the ones who ordered other items still never received their food. We were all done with our dinner before they even brought out the other dinners. We had to get up and complain, this was unacceptable for any restaurant to serve some of the party their food and not everyone. No apology, nothing!!! Then our checks were brought out and they had the nerve to add a 25% tip on our ticket for 3 people and a 25% tip for a ticket of 5. We demanded they remove the tip. They have some nerve to think they deserved any tip at all. I am so disappointed in this restaurant. You would think a manager would have come out to apologize and offer a comp on something. This would have been good business. We will NEVER return to Tokyo Steak & Sushi!

I came here for my birthday dinner with my family and had a ball. This was not just dinner, it was entertainment. Tokyo Steak and Sushi is basically a cousin of the more renowned Bennihana, but I actually prefer it. When we walked in on a Friday night, it was actually not very crowded at all. At Bennihana, there is always a wait, often even with reservations. Not here! We were seated immediately and took our time looking over the menu. The prices were about what you’d expect: a little high, but you’re paying for more than just the food. Our chef came out and joked, «this is my first night… back up,» before he started spinning and throwing knives around like a pro. While he was a little quiet, he was HILARIOUS! I laughed the whole time. The couple who shared the table with us seemed less enthusiastic, though. I found it a lot more entertaining than Bennihana, but maybe that’s because it was my first time. I won’t go into the details of the jokes and tricks, because I imagine that they recycle the same material over and over again. But who knows, maybe this guy was just a natural born entertainer. As for the food, it was scrumptious. I meant to save half of my large portion for lunch the next day, but couldn’t help myself and just about all of it. I had the filet mignon(medium) and shrimp. The filet was so damn good. How do you make steak like that? I have no idea. It was a little pricey so I won’t be coming here regularly, but will definitely be back for future special occasions with groups. Great experience!

Bored with the same ol dining experience? want to add some pazaaz to your meal? Try out this place! Great food and good service! Yummay in your tummay. I came here with my boyfriend and his family for his 28th bday(I know, he’s gettin old!). Despite our large party(8 people is «large», right?), we were promptly seated. Probably because there was absolutely NOONE else in the restaurant. After a few minutes a couple came in, and were seated at our table as well. Our waiter came by almost immediately to take our order. Once we had ordered, it took a bit of time for our actual cook(chef?) to come out. I’m guessing gathering all the right materials takes time? Ok, now on to what you all really want to hear about: the entertainment. To be quite honest, most of us were expecting something very similar to benihana’s, the same ol tricks. However, I must admit, this was SO much better. Our cook was great! He was funny, and engaging, and edgy(he pulled out a toy doll that squirts out water like it’s peeing and used that to squirt water into my boyfriends water glass. we all couldn’t stop laughing! Was funnier and less disturbing than it sounds). There were a few of the usual tricks(the onion volcano), but our waiter somehow managed to put his own twist on them. Once our meal was over, the waiters even came out with drums and a brownie dessert and a funny sign to display next to the dessert that says the name of their restaurant(for advertisement in your pictures I’m guessing haha). Overall, this place is great. Unilocal,I love ya, but I don’t know how you went so wrong on this place! I urge anyone who is thinking about going to benihana’s to come here instead. You won’t be disappointed!(also, you won’t have to listen to the benihana birthday song 14 times in the course of an hour. Yes, we counted last time we were at benihana’s…) Peeplas, do it! Also, if you do it, order the filet mignon and/or the salmon and/or the fried rice. Oh also, make sure you got some monies because this place aint cheap. That’s it, folks! Forget all these other Unilocalers and try it out! :)

We had great service and our server was very sweet and quick to attend to our requests. It’s a hibachi restaurant, so from the time you get seated to the time you get food on your plate… The wait expectation should be a bit longer than a typical restaurant. The process is to fill up a table, place your order, chefs prep the order and come out to entertain and cook for us. It’s not a place to go to for a quick bite to eat, folks. We enjoyed our meal. I wouldn’t say that the food is the best in town, but it was fresh and cooked properly. We had the filet migon hibachi and the shrimp/scallop hibachi along with 2 sushi rolls it was more than enough food. Our kiddos loved the live show. We on the other hand, just wanted to enjoy a good serviced meal at a place that was kid friendly. Service: 4, Food: 3.
