Sushi made me sick. Went back again for Hibachi and had a worse experience. Will not be back and do not recommend. There are better places.

It has all of my family and my favorites so it’s the most«crowd pleasing» for my crew. I love the sushi. My favorite thing on the menu is the Atami Tar Tar, it’s an appetizer but I eat it as a meal with a roll or soup. My husband loves the hibachi here better than other hibachi grills. He gets the steak, chicken and shrimp with fried rice and everything is delicious! I love the three side sauces they serve with the meats, very yumm, lots of ginger. The house salad has the best dressing of all the hibachi we have been to as well. The offer the onion soup or the miso as a side which is good because my family prefers the onion. Now, if I am going out to eat for sushi just for me this isn’t my pick but for a multitude of preferences such as my family this is the place for Japanese!

First the atmosphere is typical Japanese restaurant. They have the habahi table, regular table, and bar. Second, service is top notch. Kevin, our server in particular was very friendly, polite, and attentive. Our food came relatively fast, even on a busy Saturday. He came back several time to refill our drinks and check-up on us. Third, the food was excellent. We ordered off-the-menu combo fried rice. The specialty rolls are well made and large portion. For $ 11 we got 8 to 10 piece roll. Overall, this place is not bad. For great service, ask for Kevin.

Awesome food got a to go bento box with salad and miso soup. The food was flavorful and fresh tasting. Great customer service, I come in the afternoon and was looking at the evening menu but the nice lady at the counter direct me to lunch option which was much cheaper. I will definitely come back.

It will certainly satisfy your Hibachi craving, but not the absolute best. We’ve been on several occasions and the fried rice and vegetables have been consistent, but the chicken and shrimp have been over cooked sometimes. The flames are high and plenty of smoke, but seems like the chef’s just go through the motions. Big flames, Fried rice(throw some at the customers to catch in their mouth), spin a few eggs, have a flaming and smoking onion volcano.

Atami on South Mason will satisfy your Japanese Hibachi cravings in a pinch, but I can’t highly recommend it. What prompted me to write this review after coming here multiple times was that the soy sauce on the table was VISIBLY watered down(and tasted worse than it looked). Every bottle of soy sauce was full of this shameful, watered down liquid. Ugh. I should not feel the need to bring my own Kikkoman to a restaurant. Luckily(?), the chefs have legitimate soy sauce. Overall, the food tastes OK. I think the easiest way for me to review Atami is by comparing it to Benihana(it’s a fair benchmark that many are familiar with). The vegetable tempura is always a little wet, never quite right. Some of the vegetables have a strange fish taste that I’ve also detected in the ice water on occasion. The fried rice is good – nice and salty, plenty of butter, garlic, onion, egg – but it lacks chicken. The shrimp is good, if not a tad chewy. The filet and chicken are what you expect from Benihana, which is a plus! The grilled vegetables are also par for the course. Tasty! The chefs do a very good job of entertaining, more so than Benihana. You can bank on plenty of flames, smoke, and food flying at your face.

I thoroughly enjoy eating here. Embarrassed to say I ate here my entire pregnancy. Like every week. It was my craving but oh well it was good. Expect the same hibachi as Benihana EXCEPT the food is 10x more flavorful. I love the onion soup. Customer service is great. The waitress Kenny always has everything together. There is one lady waitress always there with reddish hair, can’t remember her name but she is sweet! Manager always shakes my husbands hand and addresses us by name. Things are clean and they give u a choice if you want the show or not. Great spot for birthdays, celebrations, etc.

This was our second visit. Our first one was last year and we absolutely loved our dinner at this place. This time we came for lunch on a Saturday and we first greeted by unpleasant smell, a grumpy man at the bar who showed us to our table, and an even grumpier waitress who was barking at us and was almost rude. Not a good start. The restrooms were dirty, the plates were looking very old and not too clean. We couldn’t eat the soups and salads that came with our hibachi order, they lacked in both presentation and taste. Our hibachi dishes were excellent. However, the bad service and lack of cleanness just ruined it all. We won’t be back.

We went during lunch and opted for a sushi and sashimi combo, along with a Hibachi Chicken plate. The hibachi chicken plate was not bad, but wasn’t anything special, overall. The sushi and sashimi plate was mediocre, at best. The sashimi didn’t have the appropriate mouthfeel, due to the cut. The rice for the sushi was not well made and can best be described as mushy, which killed the quality of the sushi that we received. We did not have a chance to try any of the rolls. From a service standpoint, our server was great, but that didn’t make up for the mediocrity of the food.

Well, cross this one OFF the list. I’ve been going to this restaurant for 10 years now. I live in Alief, so it’s about a 30 minute drive for us. We’ve been happy customers for a long time, but NOMORE. August 2014, I received a gift card from my friend Jim. He purchased it on Aug 15, 2014. The receipt said nothing about an expiration date. My hubby and I went this evening, March 16 to have dinner on our card, and were told they don’t accept it any more. What?!? They told us they have a new computer system, and it won’t read the old cards, so the old card is expired. The card was for $ 50. I called my mom and told her what happened, and that we would NEVER return to Atami, and she told me they did the same thing to her last week. I guess the new computers can’t read the old cards. But really, who issues a gift card without a visible expiration date, then 7 months later, refuses to honor it? So, I can guarantee they’ve just lost 16 customers who had been frequenting their establishment about twice a year for the past 10 years. I hope they took the bonus cash they STOLE by not honoring who knows how many gift cards and donated some meals to the needy.

We love this place! They typically crowded but you can call ahead and make a reservation. Sometimes the people at the hostess/host station are not friendly but it is usually because they are swamped. They are not rude, they just lack personable factor. The chefs are always courteous and creative with their presentation. The wait staff are great. They are conscious of seating and work to fill the tables in a way that accommodates everyone! The wait staff fill your drinks quickly and bring your appetizers quickly!

Great atmosphere and the staff is very attentive. The hibachi«show» is typical, a little humor and lots of flare. I ended up splitting a hibachi atami special and we both couldn’t finish it. I’ve never been a fan of Hibachi food, but it was decent.

I’ve been here multiple times over the course of about 5 – 6 years, my most recent visit being this past weekend with my parents while I was in town visiting. I hadn’t been in about 2 years, but I’ve found the food, service, and atmosphere to be consistently good every time I go. I always sit at the hibachi grill because who doesn’t want dinner AND a show? They have a variety of chefs(some Hispanic, some Japanese, etc) but we usually always get the tradition chefs, but all of them are pretty personable and have great skills. They usually start with knife skills and tricks, move to cooking any rice and meats, then veggies. Different chefs do different things, but most of them like to play tricks on you and involve you in the process. It’s always fun! On this particular visit, I got a mix of chicken and filet, my mom got filet and scallops, and my dad also got filet and chicken. We all opted for steamed rice instead of fried rice, which is brought to you in a bowl and not cooked in front of you(no brown rice available, boo!). Both my dad and I agreed the chicken was flavorful and moist, cooked perfectly. My mom and I got our filet cooked medium rare and, while it wasn’t the best steak I’ve ever had, it was cooked nicely and was super juicy. She agreed and, my dad who got medium steak, said his was awesome too. My mom said her scallops were yummy and not under or over-cooked! Veggies are usually a mix of mushrooms, broccoli, squash, and onions– always cooked JUST right. They still have a little bite to them which I absolutely love! If you order from the hibachi menu, you also get soup and a salad. The soup on this particular visit was a little salty, though neither of my parents complained about it. It’s a light soup with broth, mushrooms, and chives. The salad is just basic lettuce, but they serve it with a yummy dressing which I just can’t get enough of. It’s sweet and delicious. Oh, and dinner is always served with(in a separate bowl) a hot mustard sauce and a sweet ginger sauce. That ginger sauce is on point, I tell you what! I’ve never actually dined at similar places but from what I hear, the prices are either pretty much the same, or even a bit cheaper here. I’ve never had bad service, though it’s never been over the top. We usually go here on special occasions, or if we just want a little bit more exciting dinner, and it never disappoints.

The service was good, and the prices were a dollar or two lower than other teppan grills. The food was a bit overcooked. Dry chicken, rubbery shrimp. Fried rice was not very good.

It’s not Benihana but it’s close and it’s in Katy! My wife wanted Japanese hibachi food for her birthday but we didn’t want to drive 30 minutes to get Benihana. Of all the places around like this this is the best one. Over the years the service has been hit or miss. I think the last time we were here we were not happy with the service so we hadn’t returned for one or two years. I set my expectations low so I would not be disappointed. Tonight cook we had was very entertaining and accommodating. He fulfilled all of our requests without hesitation. The server was kind of cold at first but eventually warmed up and showed some personality. The food portions have gotten smaller over the years but the quality has remained consistent. We love the garlic butter that they use to cook with and asked for more when the food was being prepared. The fillet mignon was very soft and delicious as were the scallops. We always order this when we go to places like this and were not disappointed. I think had I not set a low expectation I would’ve given this place a three but because I did not expect a lot they exceeded my expectations and I felt they were worthy of a 4. Oh… And I would NOT recommend the Ahi appetizer. It had a fishy taste to it!
