Wow. This place is amazing and I want to own everything in it. Now if only I was loaded. A long time coming, Utilitarian Workshop finally opened their doors to the public and it’s immediately obvious why it took quite some time to go from«Coming Soon» to «Open». This store is gorgeous and probably one of my favorite interiors in the city. If you’re the type of person who likes to compare and contrast, I’d say it’s in the vein of Hammerpress or Quay Coffee, though that’s doing it a complete disservice. UW may have a shared aesthetic to those establishments, but it’s completely it’s own animal. A sort of collective space, you can come here to find beautiful furniture, artisanal coffee, locally crafted jewelry, leather goods and more. I’d say this falls into my category of «antiques for men,» but I think that most everything here is new. Either way, the rustic and masculine vibe of the space is perfect for the selection of merchandise. One note: While I wouldn’t call this a negative by any means, I do think it’s worth mentioning. This place is EXPENSIVE! I don’t have $ 1000 for a hand-made lamp, even if it’s just stunning. I’d be hard pressed to afford most anything here other than the smallest of items. However, if you’re in the right tax-bracket, you can have an amazingly appointed interior, thanks to the great folks at Utilitarian Workshop. It’s highly worth a visit, even if you’re stuck just browsing.
