Was biking from picking up a UPS package in the west bottoms to home. At the ‘Summit’ so to speak, I remembered I had to pass by Los Alamos. It had been probably a year since I had been, so I stopped for lunch. I had the special which was two crispy tacos and one tostada. I asked for only pork. No sour cream, no lettuce, and no cheese. It was very good. Also got a tamarind Jarritos and much needed water. Only natural flavors and cane sugar=great Will definitely stop again at the Los Alamos ‘summit’ for lunch!

Damn! No double-damn! If you want an authentic Mexican meal just come here. Please look past the fact it is a market. Grab a coke in a bottle and order a meal. The meat is tender and full of flavor. If you want a posh atmosphere go somewhere else. If you want DAMN good food come here.

Pretty darn good. Go in for breakfast or lunch. Ingredients are made fresh by what I assume are recipes handed down from family. The tortillas are made by hand. How can you tell? Different texture to hand prepared then heated tortillas compared to pre-made then cooked ones. Huevos rancheros with red salsa pork. Pork was tender, salsa with the right kind of spicy(hot). There are other meats with milder salsa if your taste buds don’t want to be assaulted. Chorizo and egg burrito in a hand prepared flour tortilla was also good. They were accommodating and added potatoes which rounded out the burrito nicely. This place adds cilantro to the chorizo which we were not a costumed too but added a nice contrast to the smoky chorizo. So good that we also had a Gordita(kinda like a pita pocket made out of corn tortilla) with just beans and cheese. Also really good. Surely will be back for more.

Get the guacamole, you’ll be really happy you did. The chips are the best balance of thick and thin, and the guacamole is fresh, made by somebody who knows what amazing guacamole tastes like and enough for a table of four. I was also really happy that I got the tacos al pastor. I just tried them for the first time, but they might be my new favorite in Kansas City. Both their red and their green salsas were very good. The people who run the show are also very good, and kind. One day I was walking by and went in to look around, the owner told me all about the place, and the food and made me feel really good about stopping by. I think I’ll stop by again sometime.

I grew up in southern California, and Los Alamos is about as traditional as it gets. When you walk in, head directly to the back of the store where the lunch counter is. There are no menus. They have a lunch platter that consists of one meat, three tortillas(corn or flour), rice, refried beans, chips, and two different kinds of salsa. Drinks are extra. I had the spicy pork(red sauce) and it was fantastic. There wasn’t too much fat and the spice was just about as hot as I could bear it, but the flavor was oh, so good! The rice was good, but the refried beans were meh. The chips are thick, just like traditional tortilla chips should be. The salsas were both good. The green tomatillo was a little less spicy. Overall, I loved the food and will be back ASAP.

Been wondering where to get authentic mexican food since we moved here a couple months ago. First time there, 4 of us chose several items… variety of meats, chile releno, couple tacos and tamales. Everything was either good or excellent, with the exception of tamales being not at all meaty. Maybe a fluke? Kitchen closes at 3pm Tuesday-Saturday.

I ate here for the first time today and was pleasantly surprised. I wasn’t sure what to think when I first came in, but once I figured out where the food was it was great! The people were really helpful and friendly and helped me with my food choice. The pork chili verde was wonderful and I was really impressed! I will definitely return next time I go to Kansas City!

I’m sure it’s food, but really the best thing about the place was the little cactus glasses the margaritas arrived in. Corn tortillas are important in Mexican food. This place has horrible corn tortillas. The chips are rotund and thick. The tacos and flautas were very difficult to chew. Wished they were fresh, but I’m sure that corn was grown back in the 1800’s. Refried beans were actually just salt in disguise. Guacamole. Why does this taste store bought? There were little(real little) chunks of avocado in there, but it congealed into a preservative-laden goo anyway. Margaritas weren’t bad, but when you compare that to all the food you kind of get on a roll dissing everything. They let someone in wearing bib overalls. With no shirt.

Food is good classic Mexican, but it takes a long time to come out although most of it seems like it’s already prepared in advance. Also ask for receipt as I’ve had friends complain they were over charged.

By far the best stop in the Taco Crawl. Everything was fantastic and the authentic beverages rocked! Cantaloupe, horchata, pineapple, mango… yummy goodness! The tacos were all fantastic. My favorite were the short ribs and the spicy pork.

Came in on the first stop of a taco crawl. It has a little shop area with huge pinatas overhead. They have several fruit drinks including pineapple, mango, strawberry, and several others. I had the mango and it was fresh and delicious. There are around 8 different choices of meats and everything I tried was amazing. I had the tamale and it was fabulous. The staff was friendly and the food was great. This was one of our favorite stops of the day and can’t wait to try it again!

First, let me start by saying how much I have loved our Unilocal taco crawls. I have tried more new Latin restaurants in the past 2 months then probably the entire time I’ve lived in Kansas City. Los Alamos is definitely one of my favorites! Los Alamos is an unassuming little corner joint with a small grocery and alcohol section. You order at the counter and then your food is delivered to you. I tried the spicy pork and really enjoyed it. The sauce was tomato based and had the right amount of spice. I also had watermelon juice and it was delicious! I also tried a lot of the other meat options and almost all of them were really good. I tend to gravitate towards more spicy options, and they were all well done. Although I still have a few new places to try before I start going back to my favorite I know that this will be one of the places that I return to.

There was some confusion over what was available, could we get just a taco or did we have to order a side of meat with tortillas? It was dependent on who was taking your order. Outside of this confusion, this was my favorite stop our taco crawl. We all tried many different things and shared. All of the different meats were amazing. Perfect flavor, varying heat levels, but nothing overly spicy, all tender and just delicious! This may easily be my new favorite taco place in the metro. If they had a larger grocery it would be the perfect location for multiple reasons. The various fresh fruit drinks were delicious. My favorites being the watermelon and cantaloupe. One of the reasons I look forward to the Ethnic Fest each year is the cantaloupe drink. I am excited I can get it somewhere else all year long. The drinks are refreshing and the perfect accompaniment to the food. Stop and get some food. I recommend a side of meat with tortillas and a drink. That will be just over $ 7. Get the same with rice and beans and you are still under $ 10. You will not be disappointed! I can’t wait to go back!

Pretty darn tasty chips and salsa, so good I was full by the time my entrée arrived. Who am kidding this is always the case. Got me some chili rellenos and they were yummy, truth be told I only went in to get a Piñata for a birthday party. Nice lil spot they got their with a market and kitchen serving up some ok frijoles. Kitchen closes at 3pm this would have been a bummer but maybe 5 blocks away is southwest blvd, a blvd specializing in Mexican fare so this closing time is A ok. The owner said something about not being able to sell liquor with food he can only sell it togo, well ok.

This was my first time eating here last week. Now I’ve been in before to shop, or get a drink, but never had the food. All I really wanted was a bean tostada and 1 taco, the lady behind the counter informed me that a meal comes with 3, so I went with 2 beef tacos, and 1 bean tostada. The food was tasty enough, but the tostada had beef on it, not beans. When I informed her of the mistake she hands me a bowl of beans, now I’m getting a little heated at this point, I informed her that the tostada was soggy from the beef juice and can I have a new shell, she hands me a new one. So I ended up having to make my own. As for the price, I ended up paying $ 12 for the dinner and a mexican coke, which I felt was WAY overpriced for what I got. I heard one guy ordering a burrito for $ 4, I might be back to try that, but won’t be back for a full on meal!

BLUF: Authentic as it gets. Recommend for breakfast/brunch. Don’t be surprised by lack of service. It had been almost 6 months since I had some menudo so I was on a mission to find the best spot to satisfy my craving. Of course, I turned to Unilocal and Los Alamos looked the most promising. Went on a Sunday morning around 11am — parking was a pain in the ass to find. Doesn’t help that three other breakfast/brunch spots are located within 250 meters of each other. As stated in the name… Los Alamos is a market/restaurant — about an even 50⁄50 split. There is a chalkboard that lists the daily specials. I got the the large menudo(8.99) and the Fiancé got the huevos ranchero with spicy beef(8.99). We ordered at the front counter and sat down at our table. We were never greeted by a waiter/waitress or asked if we wanted anything to drink — no water either… oh well. We ended up just getting a bottle of water from the market, probably a smart choice anyways. If cleanliness is high on your list — this place may scare you… just a bit. We got our food about 15 minutes later and that was all I cared about. The menudo was filled with tripe! The soup base was different than what I am used to back in Texas but it was still good with a bit of lemon and onions. It was missing cilantro. Most places provide onions and cilantro — I am sure if I asked they would have done it, not a big deal, though. I really just cared about the tripe. My fiancé’s huevos ranchero was delicious, the spicy beef smothered over the over easy eggs was a taste I’ve never experienced before. She said she would come back just for that. The rice and beans that came with it was okay… the beans tasted weird… like cardboard(bland). Even though it seems like there were lots of complaints… we knew what we were getting into going into a restaurant like this… located in a market. At the end of the day, if the food is good and it does not give me food poisoning, I can care less about everything else. I will try other places in KC for menudo but right now, I say the menudo is pretty damn good.

Chili relleno topped with pork chile verde and a strawberry jarritos. I mean do you need more to this review? Okay fine. Not gonna lie, the rice and beans? Meh. But the pork just saved the day. Just like my grandma used to make and dare I say it, better? Maybe that’s a stretch but the first bite really took me home. The people that worked here were very friendly. It’s a walk up counter with the food in a buffet warmer thingy. There are some combo plates listed. Everything comes rice and beans and there are just a million(possible exaggeration) possibilities of Mexican yum. I’m guessing it was my pale deceiving complexion but the lady did warn me about the chili verde. She said it was very hot. It made my nose run but nothing a spicy food lover like me couldn’t handle. I thought it was perfect. You can get to go or eat there. Basic table and chair cafeteria style. It had a warm feel though as many people seemed to be regulars. I really can’t wait to go back and try some different combos and plan to take my parents when they visit for lunch.

I want to eat at this place for breakfast lunch and dinner always. I am fairly picky about Mexican food, but Los Alamos did NOT disappoint. Every time I walked by it smelled like my grandma’s kitchen(always a good sign) and when I finally visited it was like being IN my grandma’s kitchen. Any place that hand rolls tortillas in front of you is a win in my book. The food was FANTASTIC, the workers were incredibly nice and it was CHEAP. My friend and I both got their version of a breakfast burrito. Eggs, chorizo, beans, salsa. Simple and perfect. At one point during the meal, my friend and I noticed that people were bringing in pots. Turns out, they will fill a pot full of posole for you in your own pot. How amazing is that? Don’t let the outside of the building turn you away. Go! Eat! Be amazed!

I was staying downtown at the power and light district and woke up wanting Mexican breakfast. Thanks Unilocal for sending me to Los Alamos Market. A quick 15 min walk had me meeting Conchita and her family. Authentic Mexican all the way! I ordered menudo AND chilaquiles! Delicious! I was so impressed I took a dozen pork tamales and salsa to go. Its very typical of a small family restaurant in Mexico just like I remember growing up there. Nothing fancy… but delicious, authentic, home cooked, traditional family meals. Can you tell I loved it?
