Visiting KC for NCECA50th year and got a late lunch at The Sundry. I made the right choice! A place that makes their own cured meats!!! Its St Patty’s day and I wasn’t feeling corned beef and cabbage for late lunch so instead I got a fried mortadella sandwich(a 5000x better version of baloney), a bowl of pumpkin bisk and a housemade ginger citrus soda. It was fantastic!

I’ve gone here for brunch twice, and holy crap. The food is so flavorful! It’s a bit pricy, but you really do pay for it in quality and flavor. I love their cookies and baked goods, and I also like that they carry so many vegan products. I love also that where you order, you get to see everything — watch the staff prepare it and everything. Everyone is so helpful and knowledgable about the local products. Get a chai latte while you’re there! Seriously the best chai I’ve ever had.

Delicious food! Quality and fresh ingredients. They make their own sodas too, unique flavors and very tasty. Excellent service too!

Amazing rustic, new American food. Truth be told I’ve only been here for brunch but everything I’ve ever had has been off the charts for a very reasonable price. The best thing in my opinion is the biscuits and gravy. Some of my favorite in town based on the sausage gravy. It is out of this work. And a very filling plate is only $ 5. If you get anything else I dare you to add on a plate of biscuits and gravy just to experience it. Also the manager on shift was out of OJ for the mimosas so we just added some of the super unique sodas they have to offer to the champagne. It was still very tasty. I’m excited to go back for other meals other than brunch.

The best biscuits and gravy in town. By far. I try so hard to try new restaurants in the downtown/crossroads area, however I always find myself back at the Sundry. Especially on Sundays for their brunch! The price seems so cheap for how delicious this meal is! Food never takes long to prepare and I never mind a cup of their Parisi coffee while I am waiting! On the last visit we were able to pick up a few things such as Green Dirt cheese, a few of our favorite boulevard beers(early riser) and some soap. The people who work here all seem more than happy to help, and almost excited to explain more about the items on the menu. My fiancé and I will be customers of The Sundry as long as we are in Kansas City. Go try the biscuts and gravy! You will not be disappointed.

This review is long overdue, seeing as how I’ve been frequenting the Sundry at least once a week for the past several months. It’s walkable from my office, which is part of its appeal. I love that I can stop here for breakfast or lunch, a take-home dinner, local greens to stock at work for salad snacks, or emergency milk to take home at the end of the day. It’s the perfect neighborhood market, in-house meat department included. Oh, and the roasted potatoes! Golden, always piping hot, crisp on the outside, perfectly al dente — and the perfect add-on at $ 2.50. I can’t resist leaving without these. The baked goods always tempt me as well, though so far I’ve been able to resist those. I’m a fan of their seasonal salad, which as of late has been peppered with smoked turkey, roast butternut squash, and goat cheese. The Udon Noodle Bowl and Wild Mushroom Cassoulet are also delicious(and for the most part, all easily pair with the all-important Roasted Potatoes). There used to be a turkey sandwich with pickled veggies on the menu that was delicious(bring it back!). Seating is open, family-style, with a bar and stools along the north window(usually where you can find me waiting for my carry out order). I try to resist their housemade sodas too, but they’re a delicious every-once-in-awhile treat(my favorite is the Basil Mint Ginger Ale). In short, go here! For breakfast, brunch, or lunch, or some quick grocery shopping, you won’t be disappointed.

First round here I wasn’t that impressed. Came back today with fresh eyes, and Wow what a difference! More selections in the dry goods section, and they even carry our fav, Mean Vegan. I had no clue they had Vegan Cheese with Jackfruit as a selection. Cool! I even picked up a half pound of bacon for $ 4 for the hubby, a pack of Sylva’s flour tortillas for $ 2, and tried their Wild Mushroom Cassoulet $ 6.50, which is more of a soup than a stew btw. I don’t see the Falafel option on the board anymore, which is fine by me, bc the last time I had it, the first bite was alright, but it was extremely dry! I will return to try their infamous Vegan Tamales! Yum!

You know, the first time I went in here, I didn’t understand what the fuss was about. They were out of their lunch special, and in the few minutes I spent looking around, I saw mostly foodie or vegan stuff I wouldn’t buy or grocery items priced higher than where I shop. Didn’t see to much reason to go back. But I did. And will again. I think maybe they’ve increased their food offerings, including a breakfast hash that looks crazy good. And I spent more time looking on the shelves and saw some yummy-looking jams and relishes, Green Dirt Farm cheese, Glacé ice cream, cookies made with Glacé ice cream(or maybe Shatto ice cream, don’t remember), and a Boulevard I’ve never heard of-Snow & Tell-that I could buy just one of, cold(it’s delicious!). Nearly everything there is made locally or by a small producer. Then I saw«Tasso» written on the meat case in front of an empty shelf. It’s almost Carnival season, so I had to ask. Turns out they make their own(it’s spicy Cajun ham, sort of) and their chef is from New Orleans. The guy said somebody came in and bought them out of it, and the next batch will be ready in a week. My calendar’s marked!

My first Unilocal review in Kansas City, Mo. I was saving for a great meal and this was it. Although my past reviews have been on the«high end» side dining at «upscale» restaurants this simple sandwich and restaurant is totally equal in quality, flavor and ambiance to any of them. Pastrami on Rye usually means thinly sliced piled high but at The Sundry they take it to a whole new dimension. Most import the Pastrami is made in-house frankly meaning they take extra care, pride and«love» something that is evident in the finished product. Another unique feature is no thin slices but«chunks» of melt in your mouth flavor, not usually experienced in a Pastrami sandwich when thinly sliced, and accented with a very good coarse ground mustard. Sundry also does in-house crafted soda I had cold dripped coffee soda(cold coffee with fizz) totally unique and excellent. I noticed later they had a wild mushroom cassoulet as a side that I wished we had ordered to go, sounds interesting. I noticed a large map of all the product they purchase locally and was very impressed because it’s a very large amount. As a retired chef I really must give my compliments to the Chef/owners for not only the best Pastrami on Rye I have had but for having a quality, eclectic establishment with a friendly efficient staff and taking an old building and leaving much of the«old» intact giving it a relaxed atmosphere and not trying to make a fake” upscale” atmosphere.

Nice place with an eclectic and rapidly changing menu. Easy in, easy out. The process seems suited to be a lunch spot, get guest’s orders, provide a seat, help them get back to when they need to be — whenever that might be. Whether you need to slam lunch in 30 minutes or meet a friend and catch up, The Sundry can accommodate you. The bodega was a nice touch though many items can be found in larger groceries. The best value of the store items were the locally made items you might not be able to find in a store — it would be nice to see those items expanded.

I live and work near the Sundry. Their food is typically fantastic. Today, though, I just can’t get with the product I paid $ 9 for. If you’re going to charge that for a salad, make it more than a side salad I can get at Wendy’s for $ 4. Again, the food is good… but the prices need reevaluated on several menu items. I can justify paying that for your Cuban sandwich, or the Pastrami. The salad I received today, though… not even close to worth the price.

I work just a couple of blocks away so I finally stopped here for lunch today and I’m glad I did but sad I didn’t sooner! Had the barbecue swiss burger with fried potatoes and it was outstanding! It wasn’t the cheapest thing on Earth at $ 12 but worth every penny given the exceptional quality and flavor of both the burger and the side. I will make it a point to come back sooner.

Locally sourced provisions, hand crafted sodas and an ever-changing lunch menu has The Sundry earning each of their 5 stars in my book. I’ve been a fan of them since they opened, and been excited to see them continue to grow and stock their shelves. It’s PERFECT for anyone downtown who loves supporting local KC vendors as they’re home to so many; KC Canning, Thou Mayest Coffee, Boys Grow sauces, and on and on. My latest discovery is their sodas. Let me first preface this by saying I don’t drink soda… Sure I may have a coke or Dr. Pepper once a year, but for me it’s coffee and water, usually in that order. The sodas here are a game changer, specifically the Lemon Cardamom and Basil Mint Ginger Ale. They’re light but sweet and so good on a warm day. I’ve had some excellent lunches here as well, and was recently turned onto their house made pastrami which is NYC quality. Anytime you’re near the Crossroads, pencil this in as a spot to check out!

Visited The Sundry for brunch on Sunday. Mary had sampled some of their offerings at a Unilocal elite event, and thought we should give it a try. It was before noon on a Sunday, but I was a bit surprised that the place wasn’t more busy. That being said, I don’t like crowds, so that was very much to my liking! Mary got the biscuits and gravy, while I opted for the chicken fried steak. I was very impressed by the appearance of the food when I walked up to the counter to pick it up — especially my chicken friend steak! It looked huge and delicious! We sat down, and dug in… and the first few bites I had were great… very rustic preparation for the veggies and gravy. However, after a few bites, I noticed my steak getting tougher and tougher to cut… and chew. There were either big spots of gristle, or WAY undercooked meat… I couldn’t really tell. The parts of the steak that were done well, I liked a lot, but I’d say about a third of my steak was inedible. Mary’s biscuits and gravy was the best of what we ordered. Again, very rustic, but full of flavor — not your typical Sysco bag of gravy here. We also shared one of their house-made sodas… the cardamom/lemon was great! I look forward to trying some of their other flavors. All in all, kind of hit-or-miss for our first visit. I will definitely give them another shot, and hope that what I had that day was just a fluke.

On first glance of my plate of biscuits & sausage gravy, I did not have a lot of hope. It looked bland but with my first bite… I was wrong. Savory & a crunch unfamiliar to my southern, traditional sausage gravy. As much as I did not think I should like it, I did. Tasty using part of that«holy trinity» base with onions & celery. The portion was fine for me. My husband got the chicken fried steak with earthy veggies. It was a great portion size for the price. Again, very savory that gets you to rise down & refresh with a cardamom lemon soda. I love their lemon rosemary frosted polenta cookies. Tried pairing it with a wit/Bret beer combo, so good. They really believe in good food & local ingredients. I look forward to coming back for other tasty nibbles.

They get 3 stars for the grocery portion. I haven’t been for lunch, brunch or dinner. I will update when that happens. I must say, the place confuses me a bit but I think if I lived in The Crossroads I would be thanking the stars above that I had a little place like this close by. It’s just very limited. The food, in pictures, looks lovely but it doesn’t seem all that inviting for a meal. Do people mostly get items to go? Are these group table really going to stick around? I don’t want to eat next to strangers… it’s really awkward. So, again… at some point I will try the polenta cookie and whatnot but it’s not calling my name anytime soon.

well I like that the sundry is here, like the location, like the open seating space, like the cold cases, I have not tried their made to order menu but it looks good and cheap. I only went in to check it out and grab a snack. Picked up the lemon polenta cookie that had a really good amount of rosemary in it. 5 stars for creativity, but it was such a rough cookie to eat, hard as rock corn kernels, more like un popped popcorn than smooth polenta. The center was not thoroughly cooked but the flavor was there. Friendly staff that I asked a couple questions if they didn’t know the answer they searched for it. I will be back.

I just can’t get enough of this place! The rosemary polenta cookies had me at hello and the constantly changing menu is wonderful. On a Sunday stroll, I stopped in and enjoyed a ham and cheese. and also a polenta cookie. So fresh, so yum, so divine! I’ve also brought many a co-worker here and each of them have enjoyed it just the same. The space is very welcoming too; bright and open. Now, as for the staff… also so nice and knowledgeable. I really appreciate it when a company knows what they are selling. It definitely shows, literally, on their front chalk wall. You can get a plethora of information on where your breakfast, lunch or dinner originated. If you haven’t had a chance to stop by, please do so. We really need the Sundry to stay around. It’s a wonderful addition to our city!

As someone who tries to use the word«sundry» in my daily vernacular, I was particularly intrigued by this place when I heard about it. I hoped, without a doubt, that they sold«various and sundry items». I was not disappointed! The Sundry is located in the Crossroads district, just a few blocks from the Kaufmann Center. Unassuming looking, modern, and simple, an out-of-towner would probably pass right by unless they knew how awesome this place was. Inside is a small grocery store, selling all sorts of locally-made food products and bath goods. I saw some of the epic bacon jam from Our Sassy Pantry, local coffees from Thou Mayest, and Christopher Elbow chocolates, among other local products. Way to rep KC and support the local businesses! They also had refrigerators full of locally made food — now I don’t have to travel across town to get some Glacé, Local Pig meats, or other goods made south of downtown! The store also had some vegetables and local produce — I hope that they expand this service; I would certainly prefer to buy local, but because it’s wintertime when I visited, the produce was a bit on the sparse side, understandably. And now about the food…: Two words… FREAKINGAMAZING! The menu is pretty simple from first glance, with only a few offerings compared to the diversity seen on most brunch menus here in KC. But don’t let that fool you into thinking that there isn’t anything good to eat! We tried some of the daily-made baked goods: the cinammon bun was so tasty — crunchy, chewy, and buttery! The chocolate coffee cake was crumbly and not too sweet — perfect with a mug of coffee. The winners were certainly the rum-apple-banana cake and the bacon/pickled onion brioche. The banana bread looked so dense, but was light and airy. The brioche was buttery, meaty, the onions gave a bit of a kick that set my tastebuds to «happy». As for entrees — we tried the egg sandwich, pastrami hash with a poached egg, ham and cheese and a order of biscuits and gravy. Everything was amazing, with generous portions. The winners for me were the hash — locally made pastrami with potatoes, beets(OMG beets — so good!), and a poached egg on top. I could eat this daily! The egg sandwich was also pretty epic — with a white, creamy sauce on top and a thick slab of local bacon served with it. The sausage gravy on the biscuits and gravy were so buttery and rich! Top it off with some fresh apple cider or some Thou Mayest coffee — and it makes for a very satisfying meal. Seating is rather sparse, with some long tables for community-style eating, but we found it fun to pull up next to some other locals, and make nice. So, here’s the overall: Sundry store: 4⁄5 — simple and modern, but a little sparse on what’s inside Food: 5⁄5 — WOW Ambiance: 4⁄5 — I liked the community eating, but some people may want to be private; not too many places to sit Price: 4.5÷5 — pretty reasonable prices for the portions. Total: 4.375÷5.(Too bad Unilocal doesn’t give ½ stars!). I really like The Sundry! They indeed have various and sundry items, including some tasty meals. I’ll definitely be back!
