Excellent meal. Took my daughter today on the streetcar. Recommend the croquettes with chimmichuri!

I really enjoyed the flavors from this place. I haven’t experienced Brazilian food before. This was also my first time in the river market! I ordered the Brazilian sausage sandy. It was very good. It came with chimichuri which had a very new and incredible flavor profile for me. I dipped the sandy and frites both in it!

Not a bad sandwich offering in terms of taste and quality, but a bit on the small side for what you pay for it. Next time would probably just get a few of the smaller plates to make up a meal or splurge and try the steak.

Hooo yowzas. I can’t get this food inside of me fast enough. The food is delicious. I finished one half of my sandwhich in a mixed state of feelings: am I happy because I’ve had such a delicious sandwhich, or forlorn since I no longer have the delicious sandwhich? This feeling turned out to not be so much of an issue, since the sandwhich halves come in pairs and I had another one. And the food is clean. The tiny fry-chips are delicious. No cheap kitchen-trickery of drowning-in-oil. The drinks are delicious. And when you order one at 10:30 A.M., there’s no suspicious look or questioning eye, just a thin smile as if to say, «we understand one another as one.» And when you write a Unilocal review of them after said drinks, trying to be all poetic, they would still be like, «it’s cool; I see the direction you were trying to go with this.» I love you too, guys. It’s towards the end of the River Market strip so it has more seating space than other nearby places and it’s not too overcrowded with foot traffic. The folks here are chill and present, which is a nice way of saying they’re available, genuine, and still give you your space. Yadda yadda yadda when you’re at the River Market, spend your money here and put their delicious food in your mouth.

I just found this place by using Google Maps. I didn’t know KC had any other Brazilian restaurant other than Fogo de Chão, and Taste of Brazil is actually affordable!

We sort of stumbled on this place by accident while visiting KC, but it was such a happy accident! Seriously, if you’re craving flavor and want something inexpensive and quick, stop in at Taste of Brazil! And do yourself a favor, order the #3. They serve this cilantro-chimichurri sauce on the side, and it’s seriously the most delicious condiment I’ve ever eaten. The owner was there and was so incredibly nice, he told us the general method and sold us two 12oz. containers of it for $ 5 to take back to Denver!(Seriously, I’m obsessed with this stuff.)

The sandwiches were absolutely yummy! The incredible, crusty bread was topped with some even more incredible secret sauce and juicy meats. There was intense flavor with every bite. Service was slooooow; it took a snail’s pace to get our food.

I absolutely love this place! My friend and I with her kiddos stopped by for lunch and I was sold in a heartbeat. I had to ask a few questions since I had never had Brazilian food before but they were very happy to answer any of my questions, they even were cracking jokes. The staff were so friendly with the kiddos and very helpful. These were the kind of people you could easily hit up a conversation with. The food was awesome as well! Not spicy at all and full of flavor. I ordered the Prato Feito with chicken. It is rice, beans, farofa(Farofa is a toasted cassava flour mixture), still not sure what that is but it tasted great! ;) You get to choose what meat you want and then it has a salad on the side. I was able to take leftovers home and have a full meal for dinner. This is place is at the City Market and is open air so it’s lovely to sit outside and have your meal. I’ll be coming back to try some of the other menu items for sure!

Today my husband went here for lunch. It was his first time and was looking for a quick bite before heading to a meeting. He ordered and 35 minutes later… still no food. He had to get up and ask about his order. They had forgot it. He had to go and cancel his order because there was no way he would be able to make it to his meeting. The employees didn’t care much but at least the manager came over to apologize and gave him a $ 5 gift voucher. Customer service alone probably wouldn’t bring me or my husband here. Sorry.

Excellent Brazilian cuisine that left me full, satisfied and craving the next savory experience! You can’t beat the City Market ambience and the mouth-watering dishes offered by this truly inspirational Taste of Brazil… drinking straight from real coconuts!!!

2 years later and this place gets better and better. On the weekend they now offer freshly juiced right in front of you sugar cane juice. Also available a whole green coconut which I’ve had many times but never the sugar cane. I’m happy for them not for me, as I now have to stand in a line. The food is just as good as I remember. This time I got their chicken pot pie with creamy shredded chicken, a lil sliced green olive and i think a lil red pepper, with a buttery crisp melt in your mouth crust, wowzuh. The owner in person almost every time taking the orders and seriously a chill dude. Did I mention they have a lil market with Brazil jerseys and havanaians sandals, nice

This is a review of the all-you-can-eat feijoada only, as I haven’t had a chance yet to try the regular menu. What sticks out most about the experience was actually the super long lines. Since it’s a buffet I figured we’d just zoom through it but we waited about 25 minutes just to pay and get our wrist bands(we got there at 6pm, so still fairly early in the night). The cashier told us that when we’re ready for dessert we should come back and she’ll give it to us in exchange for the tabs on our wristbands. Then we went next door to finally pile on our feast. At this point the place was so crowded that we considered ourselves lucky to snag the table in the hallway right by the door to the parking lot(pretty chilly!). The food was pretty good! The yucca chips were my favorite. The offal in the bean stew was not as offal-y as I feared and gave it great flavor. I didn’t feel like I got my $ 15 worth but that’s my own fault for not getting seconds. To be honest there were so many people walking around with full plates in their hands that I felt guilty taking up our table any longer. So we got back in line for dessert. This time we waited 45 minutes. When we got back to the cashier she said we should actually go back to where the buffet was set up and someone would help us there. It took a few more minutes to flag down one of the two people hurriedly refilling rice or bussing tables, and we ended up eating the passionfruit mousse(delicious, I have to say) while we walked around an empty River Market. For $ 40+(inclusive of guarana and tip) I can think of more romantic date nights. But I definitely was impressed by the quality of the food itself and would love to check out their regular menu during the day sometime.

This is acute little place in the River Market. My bestie and I had sandwiches here that were quite good and the little cheesy buns were great too. I had a Guarana and will have to start drinking more of these. I would definitely come back here again and the service was great too.

I have eaten here twice now. I enjoy the small shop and the excellent food. My favorite thing here so far is the Coxinha. I have never had anything like it and will be coming back to enjoy this more often.

Guarana Farofa Feijoada Three things to familiarize yourself with because in Brazil, damn those people know how to eat! I started coming here several months ago to just stop in and pick up Guarana which is sort of the 7-Up of Brazil I call it. It’s very popular there, a refreshing soda drink made from the juice of guarana which is a climbing plant native to the Amazon(river, basin, not the web site, nitwits!). First had it on a trip there about 25 years ago and have been hooked on it since. Now my daughter and her friends request it so two cases in the car today. NOTE: pricey at $ 20 for 12 cans but it’s made in Brazil and shipped here. I don’t touch Coke, Pepsi, 7-Up or any sodas but I will drink Guarana. Farofa is a a toasted manioc flour mixture that is commonly served with meals there. I love it over rice and beans and that was exactly what was on my plate today for lunch there. Unfortunately they were out of it in the small grocery section or it would have been making the trip home with me. Feijoada is a slow cooked, savory bean dish made with all kinds of smoked and«offal» cuts of meat in Brazil. It was a slave dish originally dreamed up out of necessity and is typically served only on special occasions these days. TOBM will be serving it next weekend and unfortunately I can’t make it which irks me to no end! So, I officially fell in love with this place today during lunch over a plate of perfectly wonderful black beans and rice, seasoned just the way I love them, a couple of cuts of nice garlic-laden sausage and a small salad. Nice scoop of Farofa over the beans and rice. Heaven. The sandwiches and other dishes served here now have much more of my attention and after a brilliant lunch eaten outside in the sun today I was ready to melt. Take me to Brazil, please. Or if not, the River Market in Kansas City will do just fine.

I’ve actually had the opportunity to eat in Taste of Brazil as well as have it catered for a work function. There is one very large reoccurring theme throughout both of these occasions — salt. Lots and lots and lots of salt. This carries through the meats, the rice, the bread, but probably not the deserts… at least I haven’t noticed it in them. So, this place markets itself as a true Brazilian market with imported goods and Brazilian food. I mean, I’m not an expert on the country of Brazil(or Brasil, I guess, would also be acceptable), but, I dunno, it’s not like I felt any authenticity while I visited the place. And, as with most imported items, it’s kind of expensive. The food, also, was just ok. Nothing special or anything I would go out of my way for. The biggest impression is from when they catered an office lunch. I’ve never been thirstier from salt poisoning in my life. And it wasn’t just me. Everyone was chugging water for a couple of hours after lunch. I understand the need for the seasonsing, but I don’t think the country of Brazil just dumps truckloads of the stuff on their food. At the end of the day, I just don’t think I’ll be able to give this place another chance. It’s unfortunate because I want to see River Market places succeed, but this is one I don’t think will get my support.

My niece and a friend were in a few weeks ago and we had a fun time criss-crossing the city and hitting places we had never been before. Taste of Brazil Market was one of those places and I honestly can’t wait to return. The atmosphere in this small grocery/restaurant is laidback and casual. The food… I don’t know what any of the items we tried are called… BUT it doesn’t really matter because everything was awesome. The little cheese bread rolls are amazing… The coffee too was really yummy. Real Brazilian coffee right here in Kansas City? How lucky are we. Service was great too. I think both of the owners are from Brazil so they know their stuff when it comes to Brazilian product. Hit this place in the winter when it’s not swarmed with Farmers Market fans.

First, I want a 50-gallon drum of the green sauce that comes on the Chicken Doido sandwich! There’s some kind of seasoning there that I’m not familiar with, and it’s tangy more than spicy, but it’s absolutely amazing. The chicken, marinated in garlic and orange juice, was a little bit dry but very tender, and with that sauce, the dryness wasn’t a problem. It’s topped with your choice of Provelone or mozzarella on a very good crusty roll. With a bag of Lays, it’s a bargain at $ 5.75. They have four other sandwiches and a hot dog, all in that price range, and some sides I’m not familiar with-breaded filled potatoes? Gotta see how they do that. The guys behind the counter are very friendly and happy to explain the stuff on the menu. The shelves around the store are stocked with all kinds of grocery items that are completely unfamiliar to me, some T-shirts, and those flip-flops Matt was so happy to find. Probably the only reason I didn’t assign 5 stars to Taste of Brazil is that I’ve only tried that one sandwich. That will probably change very soon.

Super excited that there’s finally a Brazilian store in KC! Ive been dying for a Coxinha! and did they have it! Hell yeah they did! However, it was okay. Nonetheless it was still good. The place is just starting up; so I hope it gets popular and stays up! I was talking to the owner for a bit, and he was saying that he was waiting for his liquor permit, which I hope he gets it soon because he got me at Cachaça! And for those of you who don’t know, it’s this AMAZING Brazilian Rum used to make Caipirinha(it’s soooooo good) Go check out the place, it’s small… but hopefully it grows!

Of course it opens RIGHT when I move out the neighborhood. I came to learn about Taste of Brazil not because of their(delicious) food, but rather due to a footwear emergency. You see, the day before I had broken my favorite sandals, my Havaianas, and was slated to leave for the lake. I was in desperate need of a new pair, and after a fruitless search went to social media and asked my friends for advice. Finally somebody popped up and said«how about Taste of Brazil?» And what do you know, they actually had them? SO, I had found my coveted sandals, but then I was face to face with a huge board of delicious foodstuffs that I knew I needed to try. On that visit I had the acai berry bowl, a glorious concoction that is hearty, filling and healthy. It’s sweet, but in a natural way so you don’t feel gross later. I think it’s the perfect post-workout snack. I approve. On visits two and three I had the same thing. Some type of sandwich that was a hard roll topped with cut sirloin and your choice between provolone or mozzarella cheese. It seemed to me almost a riff on a French Dip. The first time I had it, it was just alright. I wouldn’t have ordered it a second time, but on that particular visit I got there right when their doors opened and that was all that was immediately ready. Well, let me just say that on the 2nd trip that sandwich was about 100x better. Moist and juicy, just loaded with flavor. I’d gladly get it again, if there weren’t so many other things on the menu that I want to try. They do have a small market consisting of Brazilian staples. My one wish for the store would be for some of these things to be explained a bit better. I have a feeling the vast majority of their guests won’t be intimately familiar with things that are commonplace in Brazil, so it’d be nice to have it dumbed down and explained to us. Overall, I really like this store and I hope that they do well. It’s nice to have something completely new in the area.

I was absolutely delighted when I found out Marco and Cristian, natives of Brasil, were setting up shop in City Market. First of all, you couldn’t find a better set of gentlemen to run this place. They are both friendly, informative and helpful. Their passion for Brasilian culture really shows, as Taste of Brazil is full of good energy. The menu is fresh, simple, and delicious. The acai bowl will make you wish you were having breakfast on the beach of Copacabana, the Guarana and coxinha will transport you to a neighborhood bakery in Sao Paulo. For those less familiar with Brasilian cuisine, coxinha is like croquette, my favorite is filled with cream cheese and shredded chicken. So yummy! Don’t forget to grab a truffle for dessert. You can also find mixes(to make your own pao de queijo) chocolate, and other common pantry items. I also noticed that they carry the very popular Havaianas sandals. I love this place and am so excited to get my Brasilian food and goods fix here. Last time I was there I discovered that Taste of Brazil Market will soon be offering catering and delivery. Now if I just lived in their delivery area…

I would say they are close to perfect, but just not quite a five. Everything was pretty amazing. I started with an order of Pao de Queijo, or cheese stuff bread. The bread was really good, had a lot of flavor. The cheese is a little over cooked and chewy, but still overall a delicious starter. I also had a Picanha da Cleuza sandwich. This is a sirloin sandwich. The flavor of the sirloin was subtle, yet amazing. So good they don’t even need condiments on it. The beef stands on it’s own with the bread and cheese. The menu says the sirloin is sliced thin, but it is a little thicker than I expect when I see thin cut. There was also a bit too much fat. I had a piece that ran along the entire slice of beef and it was too tough to bite through. A little more trimming or a thinner cut would make this sandwich perfect which it is pretty darn close to now. I also had the Acai Berry Bowl with everything on it. The menu says it is acai berries blended and then topped with the other ingriedients. The acai berry is blended with ice to make a sorbet like item that is then topped with various fruits, granola, and honey. Although I was expecting more of a berry bowl, this was really good! So many different flavors coming together to produce happiness in your mouth. A little more granola for crunch is needed, but this is a must try when you visit Taste of Brazil. The service was amazing. Very friendly and when the guy behind the counter could obviously see I just walked all over the market, he stopped taking my order and got me a cup of water. Although I could have waited for the water, I totally appreciated the concern displayed and customer service! This is a newer store and there are probably a few kinks to work out, but they are starting off on the right foot with some amazing flavors in their food. Definitely a fan of this place and Brazilian flavors! Like most things in the River Market, their hours are limited to days. Make sure you visit on the weekends or swing by for lunch!
