Expectations dashed! Two visits and two less than amazing experiences. I had a burger with one visit, specified no cheese and they made it with cheese. Since I am allergic to dairy, I had to have them remake the burger while my family stood around waiting(as they already got their food) on my short lunch break from work. The burger was OK, but certainly not the«best burger» in my view. I also had a sandwich on the second trip that was equally lackluster. However, I have enjoyed talking to the owner and /or staff. They are very friendly, easy to talk to, and seem to really care about their food. I must have hit them on off days or have a different taste as all my friends seem to enjoy this food truck.

I was intrigued with the sign posting the best burger, unicorn burger. I must say that it is up there with being the best. Yummy good delicious good as the sign says on the side of the truck. My first experience was just the lady in the truck on the locust. My next experience was at the KC Star truck get together. They were swamped and hurried. I didn’t trust my burger getting done and asked for it well-done. Others asked for the same and this seemed to upset them as it took more time. I think they work best outside of the festival arena.

I’m in search of a caterer for a corporate event and have heard great things about this crew. Unfortunately, their website was so ridiculously uninformative I’ve opted to move on to other options. Too bad — a food truck would have been perfect at this affair. I’m also glad I saw this review — I’m a big fan of handwashing and will make every effort to patronize those of like minds and practices.

I finally got to visit this truck at the Westport Food Truck Festival this weekend and was pretty blown away. They run this truck with plenty of bravado but they have the food to back it up. I was behind a lady who ordered the Best Burger PLAIN and was thrilled to hear the owner say«if you want a plain burger, you gotta go to a PLAIN truck. we have KC’s Best» a pretty ballsy move but once I took a bite of my first KC’s Best Burger, I completely agree. This is BYFAR the best burger in the city, and its the best I have ever eaten. The no nonsense attitude and loud hip-hop music playing in the background only completed the circuit for me. I am definitely going to be stalking this truck for another taste of perfection.

Uh oh… maybe I experienced the Good You on a bad day. I so looked forward to a burger from the Good You truck during the Westport Foodtruck Festival today. I thought about it for days. My problem is… sauce on hamburger. If it’s a mayonnaise type sauce. My egg/milk allergies cause me to cough, and have to use my trusted inhaler, and in the heat, forget it. So this was the truck I was looking forward to. I went up and ordered a cheeseburger, no sauce. The sauce has a white base to it, and I wasn’t about to take a chance. They were putting the sauce on the burgers in globs. Not just a teensy little bit, but a glob. It was white colored, and usually white is indicative of some type of mayonnaise or some type of a certain ingredient. I didn’t ask what it was, decided to order it plain. It’s generally easiest that way. I got up to the truck, and ordered a cheeseburger plain. I got back, «Sorry we only make them one way and that’s that.» In a snappy tone, at that. I always thought they were polite. This… is the Good You truck? So I ordered the grilled vegetable taco. I paid and waited for a while, and finally received my order. I watched the man handling the money, handle the food right after. I was looking forward to vegetables, with a crisp, and slightly grilled, and what I received was mush on a taco. It was horrible. It was hardly worth eating. It turned my stomach to look at it. It tasted fine, but to look at it made me almost barf. Yet… this was the truck I was hoping to eat from. It was so gross I didn’t take a picture of it. Hopefully this was just a bad, super hot, unprepared day. When I’ve seen them in the past, they are usually nice, but I’ve never eaten from them. For now, 2 stars are well deserved, 1 star would be ample. I see this truck around, but after today, I don’t trust it to be any better. And I feel awful about it cause I know they can do better. Having never eaten from this truck before, this is what I had to base the review on. And today, between their attitude(I blame that on this heat and mercury retrograde, making anything sketchy) and the food which was a gross mushy vegetable taco, I don’t have a stomach for the food served from this truck.

The same guy who handled everyone’s cash was bare-handing all the burgers. He would take people’s cash and then pick up the food with the same hand, place it on a plate, and serve them to people. No gloves. Money to burger, money and then touching the burgers(and tacos). Ahhh. I shared my friend’s Veggie Taco. It was soggy and fell apart. That’s my story.

Their shrimp tacos at the Czar bar are wonderful and fresh. The burgers are sooo wonderful. Fresh Fresh Fresh ingredients, I have sever food allergies so when I can eat somewhere with abandon, it is a gift. Great attitudes… love to follow the truck. I hope the Czar Bar keeps letting them serve for a while.

Finally caught up with this food truck a few weeks ago for First Fridays. They had a slight power outage mishap when we walked up so a line had started to form and I think they might have felt overwhelmed with some of their routine being messed up. That said, when we ordered we payed with a credit card… which she took down on a sticky note! Yes, my credit card number, the security code, and she asked for my social security number too, which I promptly told her she wouldn’t need to run my credit card! They also weren’t taking down names, so since there were only three menu items, it was super confusing. She would just yell out«burger» and chaos would ensue as people scrambled for food they thought was theirs. Process problems aside, the food was amazing! So fresh, so tasty, and so reasonably priced! We tried the burger and pulled pork sandwich, both of which were amazing and we wanted more! Having moved away from the KC area I probably won’t have The Good You again, but I would definitely recommend it to locals!

The fish tacos Kelli whips up may be the most flavorful food of hers I have had yet. The seasoned tilapia, avocado, tomato, and swipe of chipotle aïoli on the plate are a ballroom dance on your tongue. I had two and bolted because I was way behind running errands. I was watching another dude finish four and we both agreed we would eat more. You have been warned. ;)

Yum yum and more yum. «KC’s Best Burger» is a ballsy name to give your dish but dang does Chef Kelli hit the mark! It’s a little frustrating to line up my life schedule with the food truck but when it works out it’s just magical. She truly makes everything to order, FRESH and CLEAN. She takes credit cards. She’s hilarious. The special sauce is made from unicorn tears and sunshine, guaranteed. Keep up the good work and consistent high quality and I’ll keep on stalking your truck.

As one of the first food trucks around town that wasn’t associated with a brick-and-mortar location, The Good You did some trailblazin’ and did it well. Other trucks have popped up, but this one continues to be one of the best in town. One thing to appreciate is that there is always a vegetarian option. The sweet potato burrito, as others have said, is very good but the mole sauce is really what puts it over the top into delicious territory. They have great meat options too(the burger is truly high quality), but I know lots of meat-eaters who opt for the veggie options here because they are outstanding.

I have been trying to eat here for… well a year! I know the exact measure of time because I finally got to sink my teeth into this amazing food during The Good You’s one year anniversary party. I can assure the entire Unilocaling community that I will not be waiting another year to return. When it comes to food trucks you really can not do better than The Good You. I am completely amazed by the food that comes from this wee little trailer. My favorite was the slider, four or five perfect little bites of heaven. Seasoned and sauced well enough to make foodie angels weep tears of joy. I also thoroughly enjoyed the pulled pork sandwich; again… bliss! The part of all though, all of the food from this little cart is organic, delicious and nutritious! The veggies have it good here too. I tried the sweet potato burrito… yum! Stuffed with sweet potatoes and other taste veggies, this bundle of joy will make anyone satisfied. With it comes a mole sauce that compliments it well and really rounds out the dish. Organic, great for everyone, owned and operated by the loveliest of ladies. The Good You is tops in my book!

I’ve had the pleasure of catching up with the Good You truck many times now — primarily at the Waldo Farmer’s Market, but also at a couple other random places in town. Every time has been a delight. I love the food, and Kelli is quite nice. She also doesn’t take any guff, which I personally enjoy. I’ve eaten my fair share of her burgers. They are truly delicious. I don’t know if I have the authority to rule them the best burger in KC or not, as there are a lot of fine burgers out there. They would be counted in my top 5KC area burgers for sure, though. I’ve also had a garbanzo bean/veggie burrito with mole sauce, and a chicken gyro before. Both were excellent. I hope to try«The Joel» next — Kelli’s take on a reuben. I love that Kelli uses organic and local ingredients. I’ve watched her purchase veggies from market seller’s right before she starts cooking. Farm to Market makes the breads and buns that she uses. How can you not love it?!

Oh Chef Kelli Daniels. .. THANKYOU for doing what you do. Thank you for making The Good You happen. Kansas City loves you for this. Granted KC is as usual a few years behind the rest of the country in regards to the«food truck» movement. But it was well worth the wait, when we are graced with such quality trucks like The Good You. I can speak for the Best Burger(which lives up to it’s name), & my special side dish turned entrée(thanks to Kelli, who was making up some type of sandwich with gluten option one morning, & provided me with all of the ingredients that did NOT have gluten or dairy in them, & made me something wonderful). Everyone needs to follow the Good You truck at least once. Odds are this ONE time will turn into many, even for a non food truck diner. The burger is by far(and mind you I had mine sans bun or cheese) THEBEST burger around.

I caught up with the Good You truck today to try out the burger. I was very pleased that they took credit cards so I wouldn’t have to stop off and get some cash somewhere. I was also happy that the burger is only $ 6 which is nothing for a great burger, and great burger it is. The burger is very simple, brioche bun, patty, lettuce, onion and a special sauce. The special sauce is what makes the burger great. But, there’s just a little too much of it, making the burger a bit of a mess to eat. Still, for $ 6, you’re not going to get a much better lunch.

I am happy to drive quite a distance to find The Good You trailer. Having had the sweet potato burrito with mole, the burger, and a yummy curry-chickpea veggie wrap, I would happily eat ANYTHING these gals came up with. But as burgers go, theirs is among the best I’ve had anywhere. Highly recommend. And I love that they use organic/local ingredients, to boot. (I’m marking the noise level«very loud» to account for the generator, which is also a great way to locate them when you’re not quiet sure where they’ve parked.)

This was my first Food Truck experience in Kansas City. Very Good! I had the Burger on a brioche bun and it was every bit as tasty as I had ever had. The bun was sturdy and kept everything together without covering up the flavor of the meat. My wife had the Chicken Gyro and it was great. You can follow these two gals on Twitter @thegoodyou they tweet their locations and give their specials. They were parked on 13th& Locust the day we caught up with them.
