Do not get the sloppy!!! Yuck!!! Such a waste of money. Paying that much for a small sub and receiving that was really disappointing. I tried different sauces on it and nothing helped! Terrible.

I am writing this as I am eating the bacon and onion tamale together with the beef short ribs. This meal is astounding! The environment is fun with vivid and vibrant mexican themed decorations. I’ll be back to try other menu items. The staff is super helpful as well as the food was served up fast. The sole drawbacks are the cost($ 8.00 for one moderate sized tamale) and the sesame slaw being the only side choice(I do not love slaw). I’ll undoubtedly be back to try more!

I found The Bite to be a fun culinary adventure for my tastebuds. They took various meats to a whole new level, in what otherwise might have been just another boring sandwich. I was looking for somewhere new to try, and I was in a sandwich mood. Lo’ and behold, The Bite popped up upon my search. I got the Fresh Off the Boat, as I love seafood. And I try to get crab cakes whenever I can, since there aren’t very many places that serve them, and if they do, it’s at exorbitant prices. I loved the toppings that came with it, and how well they meshed together. It was just a great balance, without one ingredient overpowering the other. On the other hand, my boyfriend didn’t care much for his sandwich, the Kickin’ Chicken. Quite honestly, I never get chicken unless I don’t like anything else(unless it’s fried chicken, then that’s a different story). I find it to be on the boring side of meats, and it always just tastes like chicken — such as the case of the Kickin’ Chicken. Even the sauces and toppings they used couldn’t drown out the chicken-ny taste. I advised him not to get chicken on further sandwiches, but I digress. We also got the Patatas Bravas, without the kimchi. I don’t think I’ll ever develop the taste for it, despite my Asian background. The dish was your typical sliced baked potatoes with the same chipotle mayo they used on my sandwich. It was very good. The potatoes by themselves would have been average otherwise. I would definitely come back if I’m in the area and nothing else in the Rivermarket sounds good. I want to try the Señor Chang at some point! Overall: 4⁄5 Food: 4⁄5 Service: 4⁄5 Atmosphere: 3⁄5

What a gem this place is. I had a groupon so my daughter and I headed down for lunch. The food is seriously delicious. Not a huge selection but the sandwiches are just yummy and really different and unique. I think the meat is what makes them amazing so I don’t know how this would rate if you were a vegetarian.

I guess I’m not sure what The Bite is striving to be. Not that it has to have any particular identity, but I feel like this is a place you’ll end up if you happen to stumble upon it while walking around the River Market area, or if you happen to have a craving for something specific and The Bite happens to have it when you Google what you want. Like if you Google«pork sandwiches kansas city» and The Bite HAPPENS to come up and you’re like, «Huh, might be good. Think I’ll try it.» I ordered the Kickin’ Chicken sandwich, which seemed spicy by the time you factor in the radish, jalapeños, cucumber,(Korean) barbecue sauce, and Sriracha sauce. Granted, I left off the jalapeños, but I was very disappointed because it just tasted like a generic barbecue pulled pork sandwich. Which is odd, because it was a chicken sandwich. And it claimed to have queso fresco, but I didn’t taste it. And I don’t know much about what Korean barbecue sauce is supposed to taste like, but it tasted like any other random barbecue sauce I have tasted before. My girlfriend ordered the Fresh Off the Boat sandwich, and was thoroughly impressed. For a side, we each ordered the Patatas Bravas. They provided a very flavorful, zesty taste. I would recommend leaving off the kimchi, as my girlfriend wisely did. Overall, it just didn’t set itself apart from other places. I find other restaurants in the River Market area to be better choices. Food: 2⁄5 Hipster level: 3⁄5 Ability to trick me into thinking the chicken is pork: 5⁄5

I ate here with a friend who is a very picky eater. I had the Señor Chang and it was AMAZING. The sandwich had a little heat but it tasted so fresh and the combination of toppings couldn’t have been better. My picky eater friend ordered the kickin’ chicken sandwich with just the meat and no other toppings and she loved it.

This is a great little sandwich shop at the city market right next to taste of Brazil market. I think the sandwiches here or on the pricey side however after you eat them you realize they’re very high-quality chef made sandwiches that are high in flavor and very imaginative I had the braised pork rib sandwich with pickled onions and radishes and I’ll kinds of stuff on it was just delicious Una Cuban rollfor three dollars I also had the brussels sprouts which were very good they also have some unusual sodas I had the tamarind soda delicious $ 15 for lunch but I would come back again it loses one star for the price but games it right back with the flavor

The Bite is a small Mexican-Korean fusion joint in the City Market. The sweet corn tamale was fluffy and yummy. The bread they use for their sandwiches is really good!

What the hell have I been doing with my life? I feel like I have wasted valuable eating experiences by not trying everything on the menu. I’m going everyday till I have eaten the entire menu. The sides are very reasonably priced and extraordinary tasty. I have the chicharones with a habanero sauce and the brussel sprouts were incredible. Unfortunately they do not have a restroom but what do you expect this is no TGI Fridays out in Overland Park. I don’t think the name bite really captures the quality of the food that they are serving out. I think Señor Wangs Happy Times would be much more appropriate. Going back today!

The Bite is the truth. I’m flirting with the idea of giving up meat, so I tried their sandwich with soy chorizo, and it was truly phenomenal. It packed a ton of flavor and all the components worked so well together. I also had a side of their brussels sprouts which were coated in some kind of sweet and tangy dressing. Loved ‘em. I wish I would have taken a picture of the menu so I could be more specific, because it has changed since previous pictures I’ve viewed here. Service is friendly, seating is limited, character is ample, bathroom is non-existent, and flavor is abundant.

I saw The Bite on Groupon, looked at the menu, was intrigued and bought the Groupon. So glad I did! I didn’t even know this place was in the River Market! I got the Corn Tamale with chicken and a side of brussel sprouts. The chicken was delicious, the tamale was delightful(tasted like the corn dessert you get at some Mexican restaurants) and the brussel sprouts had awesome flavor. My friend got the Bay of Pigs sandwich. She had been before and wanted to try something different, but the Bay of Pigs was so good during her previous visit, she didn’t want to stray. Service was quick and super friendly. Definitely be going back!

I was in the area for a hair appointment over my lunch break and have been wanting to try this place. It was so delicious and generous portions. The sweet corn tamale was topped with mole sauce and served with a side of sesame slaw. I’m not a vegetarian by any means so I added the chicken carnitas, but it would be great just by itself. I love tamales, the sweet corn had a lot of flavor almost like a corn bread. The potatoes were tossed with kimchi and had just the right spice. I had a lot left over and they made a perfect breakfast the next morning. Highly recommend this place for lunch. Saw a few other people getting sandwiches and Pozole. I will be back!

I came here with a couple coworkers to try out for lunch on a Thursday after 12pm. There were quite a few people here eating inside and outside. When we stepped inside, we noticed it was really smokey inside. I actually ended up coughing because of that. We decided to sit outside because of that. The guy working here recommended either the Bay of Pigs($ 9) or the Señor Chang($ 9). The ingredients for each were on the menu and both sounded good. Their menu had a lot of sandwiches which had me second guessing myself as to which to order. I decided on the Señor Chang and a bottle of coke. I got 10% off since I checked in on Unilocal so that was nice. We sat outside and waited a bit before all three of our sandwiches came out. The Señor Chang tasted good and reminded me of the Vietnamese banh mi sandwiches. The beef short ribs were delicious, but I thought it was pretty oily for a sandwich. Regardless, the sandwich filled me up and it would definitely be enough for one person. The Bite was good and I’ll be back to try other sandwiches on the menu.

What a glorious find. We split the Alambra and Kickin’ Chicken sandwiches paired with the light vinegette’ish purple slaw and sliced taters called Patatas Bravas. The roll is soft on the inside and crunchy on the outside(like me). We live in So Cal and while in town we elect to forgo the touristy suggestion of Kansas City BBQ for this tastebud pampering instead. Now when we visit our kids in KC we don’t know what we’re more excited to see

A very solid sandwich spot. I’ve been twice. The first time I had the top sandwich on the menu(can’t remember what it’s called), today I had the alambre. The bread was warm and had a nice crunch. The meat was rich in flavor. I added Korean BBQ sauce because I really love that kind of thing. I also tried the maduros. They were warm and sweet. They tasted good with the cheese. The man who works there is really welcoming. I’ll be back for sure. Gotta try more of the sandwiches and one of their ice cream cookie sandwiches.

There is a new(at least new to me) restaurant that has taken full control of my wallet and made itself one of my favorite places to visit. As you’ve probably guessed that restaurant is The Bite and it’s a place I love talking about and also a place I’m bummed that I didn’t discover earlier. The Bite’s specialties are its sandwiches. You’ll find everything from chorizo to Korean pulled pork to crab cakes with different mixes of vegetables and special sauces that will make your mouth water. You vegetarians don’t have to worry, they have sandwich options for you as well. On Saturday and Sunday, The Bite offers two or three special breakfast options on a first come first serve basis. Come early because they will sell out of certain items. If you’ve already eaten that’s okay too. The Bite makes its own ice cream in house and is not bashful about their ice cream sandwiches serving sizes. I will note, the restaurant can be a little hard to find. It’s located on the inside of the Farmer’s Market area among the ethnic stores and restaurants. It’s not a huge space, but they do offer seating inside and a couple of tables outside on the concrete deck /walkway area. Saturdays and Sunday will be really busy. Please don’t let this frighten you, but if you’ve been around the Market you know there can be issues finding parking spaces. You might want to build some extra time into your trip.

The Bite was our first«bite» in Kansas City. That’s right. MCI Airport check, Rental Car check, River Market hotel check. Time to eat. We stumbled in around 10:30 am on a Thursday morning and got the Señor Chang, Kickin’ Chicken and Brussels Sprouts. I really enjoyed the Señor Chang. What a combination. Beef short ribs, sriracha crema, candied jalapeños, pickled onions, radish, and cilantro. The flavors of the beef short ribs combined with the acid from the pickled onions and texture of the radish made this sandwich come together perfectly. I was sad that I was full because I could have order another one. The Kickin’ Chicken was good, not not as flavorful as the Señor Chang. It included chicken carnitas, queso fresco, korean bbq sauce, cucumber, pickled onions. radish, and sriracha crema. I wish this sandwich had a thicker bread to withstand the chicken since it had a decent amount of sauce. The Brussels Sprouts were good and had a nice balance of acid and heat. However, it was definitely way too salty, even for my palate. Overall, I would definitely get the Señor Chang 100x and try some of their other sandwiches. Love the creativity here and friendly atmosphere.

I finally tried this cute little shop. They have a different menu tonight to cater the event in City Market. They had a popular local band which brought out all age groups. I had their Crawfish Ceviche which was perfectly balanced. I also had the Crawfish Fried Rice which I found a bit salty. I’ll have to come back and try other items on their regular menu. The restaurant had power outage last night and I give them kudos for throwing all this great food together in one day! I’m glad they did not overly-priced their food during a crowded event.

The Bite, nestled into a corner of the City Market, seems to be have given a free reign to create sandwiches and tamales as they see fit. In fact the menu is so eclectic that I’ve put off reviewing it because I still cannot accurately pin it down. They’ve got tons of meat-centric sandwiches, like the first one I tried, the Señor Chang(beef short ribs, queso fresco, sriracha crema, candied jalapeños, pickled onions, radish and cilantro). They also have loads of vegetarian options and even tamales. I tried the sweet corn tamale recently with a side of patatas bravas(potatoes, chipotle mayo, garlic oil, kimchi, cilantro, green onions). The patatas bravas stole the show, they were AMAZING. Roasted potatoes smothered in all that goodness. The tamale definitely had a good flavor, but it wasn’t my favorite thing ever. I take an ounce of pride that when I’m at a restaurant I can usually pick out what I’m looking for quickly and order without staring at the menu like a zombie, but that’s not the case here. There’s so much to look over that I recommend doing a little LSAT style prep on their online menu before you go in here. I like that they’re outside area is covered and part of the City Market area, as you can sit out there on a warm and rainy day like we did. The inside is cozier but equally fun. This is the kind of place that has me hooked because there’s just so much to choose from that it makes it worth the exploration.

Nom nom nom! So glad we walked into this place… Love the fact that it’s in the river market with all the hustle and bustle of people waking around. The place is a bit small bit décor is a big rustic but there is outdoor seating so Its a nice place to go for lunch on a sunny day. We got the two most popular sandwiches, the señor Chang and the pork something($ 9 each) Both were excellent and full of flavor. It was served on a French baguette which reminded me of a Vietnamese sandwich(banh mi). One thing I would have changed was maybe having a side with the sandwich. It’s a shame no chips or fires or Kim chi came with it that would have bumped it up to 5 stars. Definitely would recommend this place to my friends.
