If you’re looking for great tacos, just like you would get in Mexico, here’s the place. Great Carne asada tacos, beans and rice. Served hot and fresh. Chips we’re also fresh and hot. Definitely coming back.

Excellent tacos, and the price can’t be beat. I had the al pastor taco, but everyone in my party was extremely happy with what they ordered. The chips and salsa were very good, and the service was friendly. It’s easiest to park in the lot in back, which is small, but off the street and easy to get in and out of.

This place is in a dodgy neighborhood, but if you’re not put off by that then come on in. Obviously their specialty is tacos. The price is right at $ 1. The specially tacos are a bit more. The have other dishes also such as fish and they serve menudo on Sundays I believe. They have limited parking in the back and on street parking in the front.

I grew up in the Northeast area, Taco Express is located in the heart where a lot of Mexican residents live and work. It’s not surprising that this place has authentic dishes and carne asada to die for. I highly recommend the steak carne asada to start with, then venture during your next visit. Taco Express is your typical hole in the wall(literally, there are bullet holes in the wall), where you’ll find a great food adventure. Break out of your comfort zone and have lunch here, you’ll love it. Cheers.

Went to Taco Express taqueria for lunch yesterday after seeing taqueria on the building while traveling down Independence Ave. My current favorite Mexican joint calls itself a taqueria as well. Place was painted bright colors. Wasn’t very busy. Parked off street and conveniently they have a back entrance as well. Ordered 2 tacos and a Torta. The Torta(Sandwich) was alright. I wouldn’t probably order it again at least with the cabeza. Should have gotten the pork. Regardless I think mine had a little too much mayo. The size was good. The tacos made up for it. Like many of the better Mexican joints the soft tacos are smaller and include two tortillas. The meat was flavorful and included onions and cilantro. Will definitely come back for the tacos.

In search of 5 star worthy tacos, and not those silly Tex Mex abominations in the crunchy shell, we found this place. Great food, reasonable price, and a salsa bar! Make sure you try the avocado salsa! The tortilla chips are the best in KC, ours were fresh, hot and obviously made in-house.

The food is a perfect 5 stars… the décor is about a two, but the food more than makes up for the stark, cafeteria like appearance. Why do these hole in the wall restaurants have multiple televisions blaring telemundo?! But really the star of the show is the cooking. I love to take my friends here because they are always apprehensive of the way the place looks. IT is clean, however, so the décor really doesn’t bother me too badly. They have all LOVED the food and have pledged a return to this small place. The prices are one of the first things that catches your eye. The steak tortas at $ 4.50 is delicious. The mounds of sauteed steak are delicious. The vegetables are always very crisp and fresh. They will also bring you lots of sour cream. This is not a low calorie meal! They look like they have a taco salad, but why bother! I also love the chicken burrito, the pork huarches, and I’m looking forward to trying an empanada on my next visit. I seem to land here a couple times a week. I’m feeling the need to share this place, because I want it to stay open! Try the salsa bar and the delicious bright«green» sauce. Oh, and the flour tortilla chips are the best! UPDATE: Something is not right with this place. We went last week, and the place was a wreck. The place was very dirty. We waliked in, and sat down. Not one person came to wait on us. I went to use the restroom, and the light was burned out. There wasn’t any hot water, no soap, no towels, –which leads you to believe that the kitchen and wait staff don’t even bother with these necessities! We were grossed out and left — probably won’t go back — the food is so good, –so sad…

I was a little hesitant about this place because it is not really«Gorgeous» on the outside, or inside for that matter. However, What this place lacks in ambiance it makes up for with its DELICIOUS food. OMGOMG… wait to you try the fresh HOT flour tortilla chips and salsa. Holy cow how could a tortilla chip be soooo good? As for the meal, I ordered the chicken enchiladas, and they were in a word… HEAVEN! My friends had a Torta(Mexican sandwhich) and a platter of steak smothered in Tomato and Jalepeno… both dishes were DELICIOUS! We also ordered a tostada and a taco to try… these were also heavenly. TRY the avocado sauce… I do not know what is in it besides avocado… but it is soooooo good. My only beef is that they do not have Iced Tea, and they did not have Coke in their fountain when I ordered and they had to bring it in a bottle… but a few hiccups with beverages would not keep me from returning again and again to this wonderful hole-in-the-wall find! Epicureans… delight and rejoice… this is the spot!

Growing up in New Orleans, there was no such thing as real Mexican food. I thought real taco’s came with hard shells, and that Chi Chi’s and Chevy’s was as good as Mexican got. Taco Trucks? What the heck is a Taco truck? (On an off-topic note, Taco Trucks swarmed the New Orleans metro area after Katrina. I hate to point this out to those who might be offended, but legal as well as illegal Mexicans are rebuilding New Orleans. Who’s going to feed them all??) Boy was I dead wrong. Taco Express was the first taqueria I tried with some new friends I had made at the time. They reccomended the tacos al pastor. And from that moment on, the truth set me free. Taco’s here are extremely delicious. The tortillas used are also homeade and are some of the best tortillas in town. Period. The hood this is located in would be questionable to most. Considering the NOLA third ward makes 31st and Troost look like the Plaza, I don’t think much of it.(and of course that’s a personal opinion) Parking on the street is just about impossible, however there is plenty of parking in the back(Hard to see from Independence Ave.)

You know you’ve found a good Mexican restaurant when you’re the only group of caucasians in the place. From the name I was assuming it would be at most a few tables and possibly nothing more than a stand on the side of the road. It turned out to be a decently-sized place with about 20 tables and a bar full of pickled jalapeos and five different salsas, all really hot. And great. I had the taco combination plate and all different meats — steak, pork, and chorizo. They were served authentic with two warm corn tortillas and fresh onion and cilantro. A side plate had lettuce, cheese, and avocado slices. Muy bueno!
