Lutfi’s Fried Fish

Should be called luftis fish and retirement home. The fish is really good but getting it under a hour is tough. This was once one of my favorite places but now I am not coming back.

Food taste good. A little pricey for what you get. 30 minutes to cook fish is pretty ridiculous though. Always have really unprofessional staff working that are very loud and very slow. They only get 2 stars because the food is good.

I want to love this place, but it’s FILTHY. Incredibly nice staff. Good food, quite good. But the floor was dirty everywhere with bits of trash all about – days or weeks of filth – and yet the place was almost empty at lunchtime. Windows smeared. Condiments greasy. Tables covered with cloths that were covered with big sheets of vinyl that were also dirty, cut so long as to make it difficult to sit down without the entire tablecovering getting pulled off. In fact, one family did have theirs come halfway off while they were sitting down, and they were miffed trying to get it all back in place. Clean the place up, it could do well. But not like this. Too bad.

I was not impressed with Lufti’s. I ordered the 3-​peice (1 lb) whiting meal with 2 sides for lunch. It cost about $ 10. The batter on the fish is cornmeal base, not flour. The fish was hot, but it had a fishy smell. The fish was dry. I ordered collard greens and macaroni and cheese as the sides. The collard greens were like grandma’s. The macaroni, not so much. It was just noodles and a cheese sauce. No effort added. For this to be a restaurant with several locations, I expected more.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while but it kept skipping my mind. I live and and work in Midtown KC and have been to Lutfi’s about 15 times. I have never failed to get excellent food and service each and every time. They have the best cornbreaded catfish I’ve ever had, and that’s saying a lot as it’s one of my favorite foods and I’ve had it all over.
Their sides are delicious; real southern flavor.
The staff is always super friendly and do their best to make sure your experience is a positive one.
If you’re looking for cheap crap don’t come here as most lunches average 8 – 10 dollars. But if you want terrific food at a reasonable price you absolutely need to give Lutfi’s a try.

I had never heard of this place or ever tasted their fish, so I decided to stop in on my way home. I only have 2 complaints…1 the waiting for the food was a bit long… I do think they could work a little faster at getting the food served hot. The prices are a bit high too… their food overall is ok, but not worth the price they charge… My fried catfish tasted like a key ingredient was missing… and it wasn’t enough salt. the green beans were the best thing I tasted. They were seasoned really good… the mac and cheese needs work… will I be back? I really am not sure… probably not

Been waiting for a hour for our breakfast. Not all that busy, no reason for a wait this long. Food better be at least edible after this ridiculous wait

Excellent catfish. Had green beans and fried okra for the sides and both were great. Food took a little while to come out but was made fresh so no complaints here.

Waited for 15 mins for a to go order for a worker to tell me to come back in 45 mins because they messed it up. No big deal, I live fairly close. I leave and come back 45 mins later and they inform me that they need an additional 30 mins. So I sit around for an addition 30 mins for them to tell me they need 15 more mins. At that point I gave up and asked for a refund. They didn’t offer any way to rectify the time I’d wasted and they didn’t even offer an apology. I NEVER go to Unilocal and give reviews but the fact that they didn’t show any compassion for me trying to give them my business for 1.5 hours and didn’t even have it in them to say «sorry» infuriated me. I’ll never spend another dime with them. I work hard for my money and will spend it with businesses that appreciate me.

It’s a convenient location with good fish! The quality of customer service is subpar but not bad to the point I wouldn’t comeback. Overall if your in the Westport/​Plaza area and want some quality fish this would be ideal and not to far out of the way.

I’ve been coming here for a little over a year now. The fried cat fish, tartar sauce and hot sauce hit the spot every single time! Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.

The wings are made to order. so be prepared to wait. you can’t rush perfection… the wings are the BOMB! Seasoned perfectly… done to the bone… the catfish was OUTSTANDING! Get the 1lb so you can share our take some home… the side items were decent… tried the greens, fried okra and fries… Will definitely return!

Love this place! The food is good, the service excellent! Shane at the front is always pleasant greeting you with a smile! I ordered the smoked chicken wings and they are HUGE and delicious. Their desserts are fabulous and 1 order is enough for 2 people.

Have always wondered if this place was any good as it is not fancy at all. It was awesome! Definitely go for the fried catfish as that is their specialty… it is not greasy. The banana pudding is the only dessert made in house and you can certainly tell, it tastes like my grandmothers. Give this place a try!

Walked down here from the Fairfield Inn as it was highly recommended by staff.
Environment: very open space right when you walk in. Parking is just next door with large lot. Very clean and even floor mats look spotless and recently vacuumed. Tables wiped off and cleared off quickly. Good chill background music and also a large Flatscreen playing ESPN if you’re up for watching a game. Great street view as the front is literally all windows.
Food: Ordered the ½ lb Boston Fried Catfish with mac/​cheese and Red Beans and Rice. BEST batter I’ve ever had. Not oily and fish is great. Sides were fantastic.
Service: great service at the register and recommended a few things.

We came here for hubby’s birthday and he was not disappointed. I don’t even like fish that much, and I thought it was excellent. Perfectly fried but not greasy.
The sides were good, too. We had Mac & cheese and red beans & rice.
Really good stuff. We’ll be back!

Everyone raves about the fish here but I really liked their fried chicken wings! It’s made fresh so it takes about 15 – 20 minutes but it came out piping hot and delicious. My order of chicken wing and fries was around ~7 and also came with some slices of bread. Huge portions for a great place. I like their fried chicken better than Go Chicken Go

The food here always comes out fresh & hot and is cooked to order. I’ve ordered over the phone and in person and the customer service here is pretty good as well. The prices aren’t the cheapest, but they do serve quality food and it’s always good!

Stopped into day for an early dinner around 4PM. My hotel staff recommended this place!
I am from out of town, and this was my first time here. No wait time at all. The man who took my order was very polite and helped me navigate the menu as a first timer. He recommended the basa/​catfish (apparently the same thing), and then recommended the red beans and rice and mac n cheese.
I got the blackened catfish, because i think it’s easier to taste the fish when it’s not fried! It was very tender and delicious. I would have gone for a little LESS seasoning, but the fish was definitely fresh.
Red beans and rice. Delicious. I have no idea what sauce was in there, but it was good!
Mac n cheese: creamy, okay– did not impress me as the noodles were falling apart and a bit soggy for my taste.
1 piece of bread — nothing special about the bread.
The man who took my menu often checked in on me, and I thought the service was great. Maybe waited about 7 minutes or so for the food. The ½ pound dinner was just enough food for me, and I’m quite the eater.

A few coworkers and I decided to try out Lufti’s about a year after they had open. You can get multiple types of fish but I decided to go with the Fried Catfish — and it was really good! My boyfriend and I got a «dinner» side meal and split it. We also had 3 sides and were really full.
This is a great place for a quick lunch or dinner with some sides (red beans and rice, fried okra, etc.) that seem like the recipes have been in the family for a while.
You gotta try it.
