finally got to try this place out, i got the double cheeseburger with bacon and jalapeños and tater tots, these burgers are made to order because you have to wait probably 10 minutes for your meal to arrive which i don’t mind as long as its good food. the double cheeseburger was think and juicy the tater tots were hot and crunchy and come is a bag that you could fit a sandwich in… you get a lot. I did learn that they you can call in your order and pay for it when you get there so if you don’t want to wait then call in your order and you’ll be good to go. I had my burger around 121pm and i was still full from lunch that i wasn’t even hungry for dinner. There’s no tables to sit at so you take your food to go, they have to go menu’s that they give you. What seems to be a popular meal is their pork chop(s) dinner that i think comes with 2 sides and maybe a drink. I will be back again.

Fantastic little place! HUGE portions! I think my single patty burger was ½ a pound. The people there were extremely friendly and helpful. I could tell the frying oil was clean from the tots and onion rings. Food was make fresh and was seriously good. Don’t expect any diet food, but that’s what makes it good. It’s mostly a «to-go» place, but they do have one table.

Wow… who knew about this place and did not tell about it. The burgers here are fantastic. I went with my son and we wanted to try the signature burger. We opted for a bacon cheese burger. I noticed the price was about $ 7.75. I then noticed the double bacon cheese burger was about 50 cents more. We each opted for the double. We also grabbed some onion rings and some boudin balls. There is no place to sit down so we took the food to a park along with some sodas. WOW… what a great burger. It was SO big. We could not finish it. The rings were the best in the city. The boudin balls, fried rice and sausage… do I need to say more… were fabulous. We went again the next day. I got a pig ear sandwich and my son a tenderloin. My daughter chicken fingers. Loved it all. Its not cheap. I spend less on a burger at Plaza III and Hereford house — both places I get to sit down and get full service. That said, this place is great. Go.

The burgers here are HUGE and made fresh… there is no complaints about their burgers… they are always AWESOME! Their fries tho… they were nasty… I ate 2 of them and threw the rest away… str8 frozen crinkle fries… not worth $ 3 they charged… they weren’t worth $ 1…those fries need some work

KC folks, if you get a chance to try Jim’s Diner(or Jim’s Fat Burgers) in KCMO, do it. Frickin’ AMAZING burgers, and a bunch of other great stuff. Carrot cake that rivals Jack Stack. Authentic soul food, too. It’s a hole in the wall with no seating – everything is made to go, fresh, right then and there(so it takes a while – 15−20 minutes at least – call ahead if you can). It’s on Prospect at 68th, so the neighborhood is every bit as cherry as you’re thinking. Not for the die-hard, faint-of-heart JoCo set. Lock your car. The bars on the door and window aren’t a decorative statement. But if that doesn’t scare you off, you’re in for a damn good(and probably 5,000 calorie) meal.

Really good burgers and fair prices. Heads up, see a burger before you order a triple.

I came here because it had great reviews and everyone was raving about their burgers. I didn’t feel comfortable waiting 15 minutes for these burgers and they were way too greasy. I guess my expectations were too high but they weren’t that great. They were more expensive then I expected, too. I will say the service was friendly and the burgers were big. The tots were good and the carrot cake was a great end to the meal.

Damn Good! No frozen patties here the burgers were fat and juicy, tasty to the last bite. I was asking around who had the best burgers in town and Jim’s kept coming up. It was a ride from the convention center but it was worth it. Not the best neighborhood but that won’t stop me from going back. The only reason I didn’t give them 5 stars is the lack of milk shakes. If you’re in KC and looking for a good burger holla at Jims.

OK Unilocalers. There may be some of you who hear a restaurant is located on Prospect Avenue and you may form an opinion, possibly a negative one. That being said, Jim’s Fat Burgers is perhaps one of the best kept secrets in Kansas City! I actually went to Jim’s for the first time several years ago. One of my co-workers at the time was absolutely gobsmacked to hear I had not heard of Jim’s and had never been. Well, he felt he had to make the wrong a right as soon as possible. Jim’s is located at the corner of 69th and Prospect, in a nondescript building. If you’re passing by, you probably wouldn’t give it a second glance. But tucked away in this«hole in the wall» are some of, if not the best, burgers in Kansas City, period! You can’t dine in, unless you want to eat in your car, and all orders are prepared to go. The burgers are just… well, you’ll get a TBO when you eat one. Oh, what’s a ‘TBO’ you say? Quite simply, that’s a ‘taste bud orgasm’. Yeah, they’re THAT good! The burgers are huge with the condiments and bun essentially being there for show. They are VERY reasonable, available in a single, double or(Lawd, have mercy!) a triple. The first time I was there, my co-workers dared me, moi, to eat a triple. Well my friends, not only did I eat the triple in its entirety, but I also polished off some tater tots(OMG they’re fabulous!!) and a piece of pie. Sha-mah-nah-mah, wanna kiss myself! HEY! If you don’t want the TBO burgers, you can also get some incredible soul food, with that menu changing depending on the day of the week. Regardless, you won’t be unhappy. As awesome as the burgers are, you probably don’t want to eat more than one a month. I would say they’re definitely not healthy, part of the reason they’re so freaking good!!! One last thing. The burgers are cooked to order. You’ll see them sizzling on a flat top grill, swimming in their own natural juices. My mouth is watering now. I feel a visit coming up this week. Bön appetite.

After a particularly hell-ish morning at work I decided to treat myself with the kind of indulgence only a fresh, hot cheeseburger provides. I’d intended to try Jim’s for literally years and thankfully decided this was the day for the maiden voyage. So glad I did. My burger was very good, the bacon on top excellent and the crinkle cut cheese fries suitably laden with faintly spicy cheesy goo. Next time I hope to mix it up a bit as the menu is more extensive than I realized. They serve everything from tenderloins, chili dogs and pig snouts to fish dinners and sweet potato pie. As may have been mentioned in previous reviews there are no tables and chairs here so it’s strictly a to-go joint. Service was chipper and professional with the lady taking my order on the phone patiently walking me through the options I didn’t realize existed, such as if I wanted my sandwich cut etc. I look forward to a return visit!

I second everything that Kendall said. I think the sign now just says«Jim’s Burgers», but don’t worry: they are big and juicy.

At first, I was debating whether to let the secret out on this place, but I don’t want it going the way of New York Deli and I suspect most JoCo-ers are probably too intimidated by the neighborhood to blow this place up. Jim’s is an amazing take-out place with some of the best burgers in the city. They are every bit as good as Corner Cocktail and Westport Flea Market(and no, Blanc and BRGR are not in the conversation). This place looks like it has great soul food, but I can never pass up the cheeseburger. Make sure you try the tots and the boudin bites. Now if only they would expand so there are places to sit.
