This is a cool little spot in Downtown KCK. As a former client of my agency opened it, we frequent the establishment with donors and supporters. They serve a solid salad and all the sammies I have had are delish. I love Graciela, who is usually our server. She is warm and friendly and gets her job done efficiently.

My office is in the West Bottoms, so this place has been a favorite for the last couple of years. The sandwiches have always been fresh and tasty, and the excellent salad menu has been expanded. Never have I been disappointed in my lunch, but the candy and pastries are unbelievable! Whenever I have lunch there, I’ll bring one of those handmade Turtles or a couple of shortbread cookies back to the office for a coworker, who really, really appreciates them. While Ellen does not make it in her own kitchen, she has the most fabulous Povitica before the holidays. I swear, you can get cavities from just looking at the treats in her case!

Sunday brunch was delicious, and I definitely appreciated the health-conscious approach to staple brunch meals. I will be back!!!

I previously received some delicious treats from Jay WaLe’s awhile back and have walked by on Sundays when brunch is being served. But I timing wise it didn’t work for me to actually go into this cute bistro to eat until recently. To put it out there, Jay WaLe is open Sunday through Friday and closed Saturday. I went in on a Monday for lunch. The menu offered several tasty sandwiches and salads. There also was the option of a daily special. I ended up going with the Curried Chicken Salad Sandwich on a croissant. My husband was with me and he got the turkey and cheese on baguette. All sandwiches are offered with a choice of side salad, fresh fruit or cottage cheese. The place is small. There truly are about seven or eight tables. It quickly was filling up while we were there, but we never felt rushed. It’s a very relaxing and calming place. When our waitress brought our meals, I noted that the croissant was warm and I could smell the delicious curry seasoning. It was a great sandwich and I truly enjoyed the buttery croissant with the fruity and well spiced chicken salad! I also had a bite of turkey and cheese on baguette — superb. The baguette was crispy on the outside and softy and chewy on the inside. The fruit salad looked good and my side salad was fresh and crisp. We didn’t have any dessert today, but the cakes and pastries looked delicious. I can say that the cookies are very good from my previous experience. I recommend taking a trip to Strawberry Hill to enjoy a sandwich or pastries from Jay WaLe. I’m looking forward to checking out Sunday brunch served at the bakery-bistro posthaste!

Excellent lunch. Sandwich was great! I did not have dessert but it looked fantastic. They do not accept AMEX.

It is a hidden gem. I have to echo all of the previous comments. We went for the buffet on a weekend. It is a small bistro — no more than 6 – 8 tables. The owner was there and checked on us regularly — she is a charming, friendly lady and terrific chef. We enjoyed a quiet lunch, with great, homemade food including plenty of vegetarian and meat options alike. We all had our favorites — baked chicken, hummus, spinach frittata, mozzarella and tomato, yum! Don’t forget to try the baked goods — the cream puff was excellent! We will be going back for the food, service and relaxed environment.

What a lovely little place! When my guy suggested we try it for brunch, I wasn’t all that excited. I’d never heard of Jay WaLe’s and the neighborhood wasn’t one I was familiar with either. When we pulled up to the place, it looked like it might not even be open. Imagine our surprise when we walk in to find this lovely European-style bistro and are graciously greeted by the owner. The food was delicious and beautifully presented and the baked french toast is not to be missed! I’ll definitely go back and try lunch during the week.

Wow, what a hidden gem! I expected some cold sandwiches thrown together for the lunch crowd. I didn’t expect to sit down, with a server. I didn’t expect my turkey sandwich to be a large warm panini with a sizable fresh spinach salad perfectly dressed. A drink and 2 lunches were about $ 10 each. During my awesome lunch, I could help but stare at the two huge cases of pastries, cookies, candies, pies and cakes! Wow… how can you not get dessert? I purchased a chocolate chip cookie, a lemon cookie and a loaf of cinnamon bread. The loaf of bread was dry, but my lemon cookie was so good! There were little bits of coconut scattered in with the lemon. Normally, I don’t love coconut-but I loved it in this cookie! I will be back to try the grilled chicken sandwich. The place is really small, so try to get there early or late for lunch.

Wow. talk about a hidden gem! Jay WaLe’s Bakery is masked amongst industrial and government-type buildings ~ nestled between vacant lots and hallow-faced shops. But, step inside and you are immediately taken to another place. Tantalizing treats beckon you from behind their glass casings. Hand-dipped chocolates, truffles, and bordeaux’s entice you with their intricate detail. The smell of fresh baked scones, cookies and breads lure your senses and leave you desiring one of each. Tarts, cakes, and danishes… OHMY! This place spell’s danger — The far off vision of my skinny-jeans crammed into a cubby at the top of my closet, stops me from losing all control. I choose a gorgeous, personal sized, double chocolate cake. It’s a perfect surprise for my unsuspecting client, whose birthday — I happen to know — rears it’s head tonight at midnight. And mid-flight from Kansas to London ~ he’s sure to be found in a chocolate-coma.
