Family Bicycles

The staff at Family Bicycles was absolutely amazing. I have been to another bike shop in KC and had a terrible experience so I was so glad to see that this local shop was completely different. The owner was so friendly and welcomed my dog (as long as the resident cat is away). She even made recommendations based on my needs and I never felt pressured into buying the most expensive option. She actually recommended something of lesser price and I’m very happy with my purchase. I went here because it’s close and it happened to have a Unilocal deal but now they have guaranteed my future business.

I like this store. They are helpful and knowledgeable without being condescending. They helped me figure out which part I needed to make my odometer work again.

Local businesses are the backbone of communities. I have a pretty specific definition of communities/​neighborhoods. Modern suburbs just don’t qualify. If you can’t get a lot done by walking it’s just a suburb.
That’s when you’ll need a BIKE!
Enter Family Bicycles, which is in the neighborhood of Waldo. You can walk to everything in Waldo. But, with a bicycle, the whole southern KC metro becomes a cycling paradise! This store carries many Surly, Fuji, and Yuba bikes, but has access to several other brands. With Surly and Yuba in particular, you can find a bike that does it all. Road, trail, city, utility, kids… all the bike types are here. If they don’t have what you need, you only need to know what you want. I wanted a Surly Travelers Check. So they ordered it and five days later I have it! Now I have the ultimate jack-​of-​all-​trades bike!
Theresa and Bruce are helpful folks on the sales and shop side of the business. Surly the black cat is the store mascot. No worries about bad luck though… if you shop here you’re fortunate.

Love this place! I have been trying to decide on what kind of bike to buy and visited several local bike shops… but this one is the best. They were very helpful and friendly. I know nothing about bikes and they were able to explain everything I needed to make a decision. They showed me how to use the bike, attached my bike trailer hitch and helped me load it!

Love this bike shop. I buy all my accessories here and bring in all my repairs. They are friendly, helpful and never elitist about bikes. I’ve even rolled by after hours and someone will open the door if they see you to help you out. They have moved locations a few times but I think where they are now is a great spot. It’s right off the trolley trail!

While on a Sunday fun day walk on the Trolley Trail my friends and I saw Family Bikes and stopped to take a look at the cruisers they had out front. Fell in love with one but had to think about it. The next day I went in and Theresa was so nice and helpful. She was also so patient with me, a person, who has zero bike knowledge. She took the time to teach me how to take the front tire off and undo the front break.(All of which I mastered once I was home!) Reasons why I love shopping at local stores. So excited to be able to bike now with my friends.
