As far as I’m concerned there is no better aloha shirt made than the Reyn 60⁄40(cotton poly). They look great and feel great, and last for decades when cared for properly. I would strongly suggest never putting your Spoonercloth shirt in a dryer; hang it up and let it dry, and it will retain that crisp feeling for years. Yes, you will spend more. If not on sale, a shirt will be between 65 – 85 dollars. What I really enjoy besides the quality and craftmanship is the different artistry. Reyn’s has some very talented artists that contribute shirt designs. My favorite is Dietrich Varez, a well known artist. Each shirt tells a story, and I cannot count the number of times I’ve had people walk up and tell me how much they like the shirt I have on. They also do commemorative shirts for holidays and I love their summer July 4th /Father’s day’s shirts. If you don’t have time to stop at their Waimea store they also have one at Queens Marketplace at Waikoloa Beach Resort, as well as Honolulu. These shirts are an island institution, along with Alfred Shaheen, whose store in Hilo is also a great place to find a quality shirt. They also have women’s attire, often using the same fabrics and patterns that are in the men’s. One of my wife’s favorite mu’u mu’u’s came from there. Both the Waimea and Waikoloa stores have sales racks where you may find a nice discounted shirt. Otherwise if you are on vacation and wanting a lasting shirt that the cognescenti on the mainland will admire, spend the money. You won’t regret it. Finally, google Reyn Spooner and check out their website for more designs and also on sale items. And do not blame me if you become an addict; at last count I had 65 Reyn’s in my closet, all 60/40’s. What a fabulous selection of beautiful Hawaiian shirts! They put out new patterns regularly. Including a new Christmas shirt each season. Top quality. Great friendly service. They’ve been here since 1958. I’m so glad I found this shop while visiting LavaLava.
