Wow! What a hidden treasure. Stopped in for lunch. Started off with the poke, definitely a nice sized appetizer portion for splitting. It was quite a lot for two ladies with small appetites. Love those sweet Maui onions and taro chips. Yum! I had the Mahi Mahi fish taco. It was supposed to come with guacamole. But for some reason they were out. So I asked for a bit of avocado. They brought me some gorgeous slices for my grilled fish. What a happy thing! It brought out the flavor of the fish wonderfully! I think the guacamole may have covered the taste of the fresh fish and the light sauce. But the avocado was the perfect accompaniment. What a happy day! We also had the mango ice tea. At first we thought it was over sweetened. Nope. It was so sweet from the fresh local pineapple! What a delight. I strongly recommend ordering the tea! Enjoy! :)

Really nice service but not a great spot for vegetarians. We are staying at the Mauna Kea Beach hotel(amazing place) and were looking for vegetarian options. The only item on the menu was a veggie burger. It didn’t have much flavor and was way overpriced. If you are vegetarian and staying at the hotel, I would advise you to go off the property. My review is more for the options(or lack there of for vegetarians) and the pricing — the service was good.

The Hau Tree is super causal. We walked up from the beach with our swimsuits and cover-ups and just sat down. We shared the delicious mahi-mahi tacos and beach salad with ahi tuna sushi on top and they were both tasty. Not to mention you’re as close to the ocean as is gets. It’s a bit pricey for lunch, but I guess the view is included.

Great place for dinner with a beautiful sunset. Nice presentation on dishes. Perfect amount so one can’t over eat. Flavor just right on the dot. Staffs are very helpful. Price is not too bad for dinner. Beware of salad because it comes in a very small amount with a few greens. Not even enough to share. Lunch here just an average. Not too many choices. Mostly burger and salad and you can add fish, shrimps or chicken on top.

Casual lunch at the resort before heading to a meeting. This is the resort’s open air café next to the ocean. I assumed the food would be excellent considering the prices and that it was part of the resort but I was wrong. The seared ahi wrap was totally lacking in flavor and on top of that the«sauce» they gave us just tasted like a cup of sesame oil. We left half of it behind. The hot dog was pretty bland and they could have done so much more with regards to garnishments. I was surprised The frozen drinks tasted like frozen ice… All pretty bland. The waitress was very sweet and fairly attentive but we felt a bit let down with the food. I would go back to enjoy the view and non tropical drinks!

Great atmosphere right next to the ocean and excellent food — the lettuce in the salads were so fresh and crisp. I had the mahimahi lettuce cups which were perfectly cooked and very tasty.

While our visit to Hapuna beach prince hotel, my husband and I came to Mauna Kea just to explore and see the property. We had no reservations for dinner but just walked to Hua tree given it’s super casual vibe. Nobody really walked up to greet us so we asked the bartender who the hostess was… after about a 10min wait we were seated at a decent table. I am not sure if it just happened to be particularly windy when we were there or it’s always like that but be prepared for winds strong enough to knock over water glasses! Finally we placed our order but waited about 25mins for dinner and the food was served pretty cold :( Key points –take a light sweater to dinner –prepare to wait for your food to be served –don’t expect hot food –service is not very friendly(given the friendly Hawaiian vibe everywhere else) Recommend or not? Ummm… if you have other choices then pass…

Perfect spot for lunch after a day on the beach. We came to Mauna Kea hotel to go to the beach. We parked valet at the hotel since we knew we would have lunch onsite. The restaurant is conveniently located beachside and they let you sit down in your beach attire complete with sand, toys, and beach bags. Food was fresh and presented nicely. Of course it’s a little more costly but you get great service and are in a high-end establishment. We loved it. Tip: don’t bother fighting others for the beach pass. Just have lunch here when you’re at the beach and your parking will be validated.

Family has been comin here for about 40 years and it’s always been great. Hot dogs are amazing, as well as Cobb salad and club sandwich. The club sandwich has changed a little thru the years but still really good. They used to have THEEMOSTAMAZING ovaltine froths and shakes but changed to using soft serve ice cream type stuff which is about 10% as good as they used to be. If they could bring back the old style ovaltine froths I would give this place the 5 stars

I could pass on the food… nachos and burgers just so-so. But we fell in LOVE with the Ovaltine froth! So delicious and worth the stop! The Fredrico and Mai Tai cocktails were pretty dang goo too!

Absolutely fabulous«secret» spot for lunch/drinks, if you are not staying at the Mauna Kea. It’s right on the beach, with nice shaded tables with a full bar. Their ahi appetizer and wrap are delicious, tasty and so fresh! View of the ocean and people sunbathing. It truly feels like paradise! I think they open everyday from 11−3pm

For as nice and fancy as this hotel and beach are, this beach front bar/lunch option is kind of a dud. The $ 14 cocktails were NOT good(very icy piña colada and the mai tai tasted like a bucket of rum). The menu said the nachos had«melted cheddar cheese» and chili. A basket came out with cheapie tortilla chips, a spoonful of chili and a glob of lukewarm nacho cheese. Don’t get me wrong, I love nacho cheese, but at least say what it is!
