Charlie Wong’s Saigon Garden

Great food, friendly service! Similar to Thai food in the sense not so heavy. Would definitely come back!

I first tried Saigon as it was convenient to where I work but now I have to have my fix every Friday. The wonton noodle soup and beef phở are both excellent with big portions and excellent flavors. I usually get it to go due to my schedule, but the many times I have dined in, the service has been very good and the staff friendly.

I have been to the Charlie Wong’s many times in Evergreen and always enjoyed it. The Charlie Wong’s restaurants are both much better then any other Chinese in the valley, especially Alley Connection (I have never been impressed with their food, very bland.)
We came to Saigon Garden and did the family platter deal and it was an enormous amount of food for insanely cheap. It was a great variety of flavors, tons of a stuff and we went home with plenty of leftovers (which of course, are always the best.) They are also doing dim sum nights now which is awesome.
I give a big thumbs up to this place! Great to have 2 locations that offer different things. Well done!

Would you eat at a Chinese restaurant in an area with no Chinese? We did, and see what happens!
We fly into Kalispell for a long trip to nearby Glacier National Park. No Chinese food in GNP, so I’d have to get my Chinese fix in Kalispell.
Yes, this is a Chinese restaurant, run by a man who escaped from Vietnam, hence the Vietnamese name. It’s located in a strip mall, with a Subways, and a Burger King –undoubtably more in tune with the local tastes.
You can’t always go by looks, and you can’t tell a book by its cover. Same is true here, as the inside of the restaurant is clean, shiny, and bright with windows on three sides, facing a busy 5 lane roadway, alongside hotel row.
No Asian women to serve you here, as there are no Asians in this remote area of Montana, near the Canadian border, 1200 miles from home. We walk in, and everyone is white. Nobody gives me a second glance, even with my womens Chako sports sandals with light blue thin straps.
Nice ambiance even with no Asian waitresses, with glass topped tables, and Chinese zodiac calendars as place mats. We order two of the combination dishes, one featuring the $ 13 Kung Pao chicken and the other the $ 14 grilled beef.
The hot and sour soup has crispy noodles on top, and is tasty with tiny bits of pork floating in an agreeable soup base, not too sour, and not at all spicy.
The Chinese chicken salad is a cole slaw dish, with raw sliced cabbage as its base, with mayonaise, and a sprinkling of chicken. Not as good as Tao Taos in Sunnyvale, and the cole slaw is not as good as Armadillo Willy’s spicy peanut cole slaw. Darn, no Armadillo Willys in Montana!
The 4 spring rolls are excellent, crisp, with tasty vegetable fillings and bean sprouts.
The chicken won tons are drowned in sweet and sour sauce, with bits of pineapple. The sauce is overwhelmingly sweet, and spoils an otherwise good dish.
The grilled beef is overcooked, dry and cut into too small pieces. Grilled beef should be medium rare, not well done.
The Kung Pao chicken is not at all spicy, despite our orders for medium spicy. It’s relatively bland, with the grilled onions way over cooked, almost burnt. The carrots add to the color of the dish, but not much to the flavor.
Not sure if we will be back in Kalispell, but if so, we will skip visiting this restaurant next time, even if its the only Chinese restaurant in town, and head across the street to the Casa Mexico, which had a full parking lot, next to Motel 6, compared to the empty one for Charlie Wongs. The locals can’t be wrong!
We get out of there with my wallet $ 30 lighter. Two stars for the food, but four stars for ambiance, service, and five stars for the unmatched quantity of food –even I could not finish my plate, and I can’t remember that happening before in a Chinese restaurant.
The wife, who is white and thus not that critical of the quality of Chinese food –she likes Safeway Chinese food-​, says never again eat at a Chinese restaurant in an area with no Chinese!

I’m a fan again. We ordered delivery and got some pretty great Teriyaki Chicken and Grilled Pork, Vietnamese style.
Their rendition of hot and sour soup was good, albeit interesting. The egg rolls are phenomenal, with chunks of pork, not ground pork and not the BBQ pork, real pork. They served an Chicken Asian Salad with the Combo Dinner dressed in a light Fish Sauce vinegarette. Delicious!
We stopped coming here because we had had a couple of bad episodes of Wonton Soup, which they offer in large bowls with lots of vegetables. It was salty and had little flavor. The Phở ain’t so good either.
But their other dishes are good, delivery is $ 2, and the egg rolls (and their Combo Summer Rolls) earn them 4 stars.

Loved it, don’t know why it isn’t busier. Last night I had the Kung Pao shrimp, great. Tonight I had the beef Phở, great again. Service is attentive and quick. The dishes are hot, fresh with crisp vegetables. Makes me want to take this place with me.

Best (/​only?) Vietnamese vermicelli noodle bowl (bun thit nuong cha’ gio’) you can find around here in kalispel.
Fish sauce is called carrot sauce and is sweeter than salty (probably to cater to the population taste).
Fresh vegetables and all, it was actually pretty decent. I also ordered the pot stickers which I think was a mistake, it was way more deep fried than I’ve ever experienced with pot stickers and really «doughy» too. Clean restaurant, good food.

Don’t order the Phở unless you’ve never tasted good Phở. Hard to describe except for very disappointing…

I really enjoyed everything about my experience at the Saigon Garden today… Great service, very quick to bring you your hot food and it’s cooked perfectly… I’ve been to Singapore, Hong Kong and Taiwan… Even though this has been «americanized» a little… It still takes me back! Very authentic and high-​quality Chinese food!

Customer service is good and waitress is very friendly, but the dishes are just average, nothing bad and nothing standout. Their phở is not very genuine, but it is fast, it is a good option for work lunch. They open relatively late, if you leave in the hotels nearby, you can consider here as a late dinner option.

One of my favorite places to eat. Love their chicken chow mien. This family has been in the valley a very long time and serves great, quality food at all their locations.

I stayed in Kalispell for a few nights during a class field trip and ended up coming to this restaurant twice! The first time was for lunch when we just arrived into town… as the rest of my classmates went to the Subway across the parking lot, I was willing to wait for food that was actually cooked! I had tofu lo mein and was blown away by the flavor and the price! My classmates spent $ 6 – 7 on Subway and got mediocre sandwiches whereas I spent the same amount of money and got a fantastic lunch!
The second time I went to Saigon Garden was for dinner a couple days later. By then I had convinced a few other people to join me. I had vermicelli noodles with a spring roll and a few others in my party had the combination dinners and everyone was raving about the food! The prices for dinner were very reasonable too.
I definitely did not expect such great Vietnamese food in such a tiny town in Montana!

Really cute restaurant with really poor quality food. Staff was great, but they just can’t overcome the bad food. Sorry guys, I wanted to love the food! =O (

I cannot believe we ate at the same restaurant as the other two reviewers.
After a terrible experience at «Asian Buffet» we were reluctant to try any other Asian food in kalispell (Yes I know it is not exactly Chinese), but this place was recommended to us yesterday. Both my Husband and I had a very tasty, nicely presented lunch. Our waitress, a lady in her early 40“s (I am guessing) was extremely pleasant and we could not find anything to complain about. Maybe today was a lucky day for us, but we will go back again and if it is bad I will come back and say so. Give it a chance.
For the record we have eaten in several Asian countries so are fully aware what Americans regard as Asian is not what you would find when you visit their country.

First off… I’ve been craving some phở ever since I came to Montana for work 3 weeks ago n this was the 1^st place I found. I must say I was a little hesitant just because this is a Chinese/​American/​Vietnamese restaurant n I was right.
The broth was clear as water n just bland, their combo only came with beef flank n something resembling meat balls… where’s the good stuff like tripe n tendons, n lastly the sides I got were old bean sprouts n chopped up lettuce (???).
A word of advice to any Vietnamese that are thinking about opening a phở restaurant here… DO IT!!! The people of Montana are seriously missing out on some good phở.

We frequently went to Charlie Wongs, now it is a toss up… usually depending on what side of town we are on… and whether we want PHO or not

First time in recently opened Vietnamese restaurant. Not a very good experience. Food was bland. Ordered gluten-​free and it was worse. Asked if the hoison sauce had wheat in it and was told by hostess she would check. Couldn’t say. Asked waitress whether soy sauce had wheat and she said she would check. Never came back. Young and inexperienced wait staff. Not knowledgable about Vietnamese dishes. Steamed rice was served on an open plate and not a tureen. Lukewarm and soon cold. Not likely to return.
