We started our project with high hopes, especially after seeing photos of some of Archipelago’s work in Houzz and reading reviews. We were hoping Archipelago could help with organizing our furnishings to have a more Hawaiian style appeal, assist with a kitchen and bath remodel, and work with us on some other smaller changes we wanted to make. After being strung along for 2 months far too focused on just the kitchen plans, they presented us with an estimate for cabinetry that was 6 times two other estimates I got from local builders. When asked for a breakdown to see how they arrived at the price, they not only refused, but quit the project and proceeded to send me an invoice for well above what I had already paid them to initiate the work. I reviewed the invoice and found not only duplicate entries but also unevenly applied rates. They did send me a marginal refund on my deposit to cover their mistakes, but not after some tenuous exchanges about some granite and marble I purchased through them(they were attempting to pocket nearly $ 3500 in margin, rather than credit me the full amount I paid so I could deal with the vendor directly). I was pretty shocked at their business dealings and the fact they seemed OK with leaving me with nothing but a few CAD drawings I can’t use plus a list of candidate paint colors. I strongly recommend that if you use Archipelago be warned that they charge a premium and do not expect nor desire you to actively participate — or ask too many questions.

I’ve worked with several design firms over the years and I have found Archipelago Hawaii to be one of the most creative firms on the island and they’re very easy to work with. Tiare and her team care about their clients and treat their vendors with aloha. Keep up the great work Archipelago!

Some of the most beautiful design work I’ve seen on the island comes from the very talented team at Archipelago Hawaii. Concept to Completion, they do it all.
