I have been meaning to rate this restaurant for quite a while now. Starting with the food. Yes it’s a coffee shop. But one of the best coffee shop’s I have ever eaten at! All of the servers really care about their customers and are professional and have a good sense of urgency. You will be treated like family. After you try it once, you will be hooked. I should know. I ate at the Coconut Grill for 5 breakfast in a row and 1 dinner for my going back home dinner. All of the staff gave my wife and I hugs goodbye on our last night. Maui Seaside Hotel and The Coconut Grill are a perfect combination for a week vacation to Maui! Ma halo!

The free breakfast with the hotel stay is nice however our server today was the worst I’ve had in my life. Didn’t bring us menus until we asked, didn’t bring pancake syrup or butter till we asked, didn’t bring butter and jam for the toast till we asked, and completely forgot to bring my omelette until I asked. Omelette was cold when I got it. Didn’t even bring a spoon for my papaya until I asked. Waited until my water glass was completely empty before refilling. Someone also had to ask for more coffee. There wasn’t a single thing this guy DIDN’T screw up. Bleh! Tips are earned.

Dissapointed with service at first, but the food made it up. Everything we tried was delicious. My daughter got a cup with a crack and asked the waiter to change it and she did but I think she should have refilled it since it was leaky

Service was great, but salad bar was not re-filled. Granted i paid only $ 2.95 as an add-on. Prime rib was average. But I liked the décor of the place. Prices were average for Maui.

We ate breakfast here during our stay at the Maui Seaside Hotel. Breakfast was reasonable at $ 33.70(not including tip) for three people who all got full. We enjoyed the décor, even if it may be a little kitschy. Its for tourists more I think. Cute place though. Onto the food. My brother had the Flapjack Special, which was very big and looked incredibly filling, like a meal a lumberjack would eat before heading out for the day. My mother had the Coconut Grill Special, which allowed her to choose her meat(she went with the smoked bacon of course) it also came with two eggs sunny side up, and wheat toast. I had the Kona Eggs Benedict. I love eggs benedict so I had to have this! It originally comes with cornbread, however I asked to have it on an English muffin, which the waitress Chelsea was happy to change for me. So an English muffin with shredded turkey, the poached egg, and a light hollandaise sauce on it. It was so good. Just a sucker for this dish. I got the half order with an inclusive fruit cup made up of melon and pineapple. It was a good meal at $ 7.95(without tax). Free coffee refills too. Pretty standard good food. When we were heading out it was starting to fill up. We are the early bird types. I recommend checking Maui Seaside Hotel out as well. An affordable place to stay in Kahului.

I had the hamburger steak with 2 eggs on top which they named the«Coco-Moco». It came with rice and macaroni salad. On the side, we had some coconut shrimp skewers and big island ice teas to wash it all down. The food was great, the service was great. Thanks Cris and Michelle for the great service.

We came here for dinner on our first night in Maui since we were staying in the Maui Seaside Hotel. The food was just ok. The chicken was a little on the dry side and I found it too be a bit costly for the amount and quality of the food we received. We were seated within 5 minutes, but it took SOLONG for them to give us the bill when we had finished our meal. I was a little disappointed.

I wouldn’t recommend this place to a friend. We had breakfast here twice it was included in our hotels package. Wish I could have taken my $ elsewhere. Doesn’t accept AMEX.

Loved the funky décor. The service was friendly and efficient. Getting a small complimentary appetizer was a delicious and pleasant surprise. Hubby’s steak was perfectly cooked and flavorful but the star of the whole experience was the wonderful fresh ahi. It was as rare as I like it and had an almost-sweet ginger glaze that enhanced the flavor. I would definitely return.

Went here for the free breakfast that was included with our stay. It was so good if I was staying in the Kahului area I’d go there again. However we were staying in the Kaanapali area & never made it back here for another meal. Our server Susan was awesome! Fast with the coffee & put up with my husbands silly jokes even joking back with him. :) The scrambled eggs with ham & potatoes was awesome. Hubby had the fried eggs, rice & portugese sausage. Sort of a Hawaiian Dennys feel to the place.

Ate here during a business trip last week, and I don’t know what I was expecting, but the food was better than I expected. I had the Cinnamon Banana Macadamia Nut Waffles. That. Was. Delicious! The Guava juice was a disappointment. Tasted like the frozen canned ones with too much water. Typical old fashioned, outer-island style diner. Small portions, but it gets you full. I wouldn’t personally come back, but I did enjoy myself.

We stayed at the Maui Seaside this past weekend and the room included complimentary breakfast voucher’s for this place. It’s attached to the main lobby of the hotel. It reminded me of Flamingo’s, had an old school island feel to it. We were greeted as we walked thru the doors and I glanced around and it was pretty clean and cozy looking. it wasn’t crowded either which was nice. We were seated shortly after arriving and the waitress jumped right in with taking our orders. The voucher’s we had for breakfast came with pre set options and we all chose the Portuguese sausage, egg, rice and toast breakfast which included Orange Juice or Coffee. I’m not a big fan of orange juice so the waitress made an exception and offered Guava Juice instead :) That was nice of her and I surely appreciated it. We also ordered two plates of sweet bread french toast and eggs Benedict. It took about 15 minutes for our food to arrive. It looked visually appealing and I knew it was gonna be at the least decent because the only semi complex thing we ordered was the eggs Benedict. The portuguese sausage, eggs and rice plates looked to be a good amount of food to me. Not too much or too little. Serving was just right for me, Two pieces of sausage, two eggs and a scoop of rice. However the sweetbread french toast was kind of a huge order. Had we known it was gonna be that much we would have only ordered one. Egg Benedict’s was a perfect serving for two. The food was good, not great but better than expected. Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice were basic. The Sweet Bread french toast was Light and sort of crispy but good. The coconut syrup that came with it was a bit too sweet so we opted for maple. The egg benedict was awesome! The eggs were cooked to perfection and the ham was savory. The hollandaise sauce that was poured over it was creamy and delicious. It was the best thing I ate while we were in Maui. Overall I had a good experience here. The waitstaff was friendly and the service was good. Prices were not too bad either. I wouldnt go out of my way to east here again but if I happened to be in the area I’d definitely consider coming back for the eggs. Yummm!

I ate here while staying at the Maui Seaside Hotel that it’s attached to. The place as a great friendly waitstaff and service. The food is decent and the surroundings are clean. All 3 options you can choose from for the breakfast voucher will be surefire ways to get you started for the day.

3.5 stars. Place is no frills, local nostalgia, but clean and decent. Place initially a bit clogged at the door with people waiting to be seated. Place 25% full. Not sure why there was a hold up. We were seated at a booth, but weren’t given any menus. Waited for about 7 minutes and was provided service, menus and waters. Host: 2.5 stars. Ambiance: 3.5 stars(old school kama’aina). Between the two of us, we ordered the taro pancakes with honey ham, fried potatoes and two eggs; and the taro pancakes with sausage and toast. Loads of food. I wasn’t able to finish, although I tried. The taro pancakes were delicious and even more so with coconut syrup. Food: 4 stars. Service: 4 stars. A rocky start, but once it got going, the going went well. A good choice for breakfast. Tally: 2.5+3.5+4+4= 14/4= 3.5 stars.

Service is very friendly here. We came for the free breakfast from our hotel and thought because we had free vouchers that service would be crappy. On the contrary it was really great. We had gone on several occasions for both sit down and carry out breakfast and it was very good. There was also a good amount of food for the free breakfast and it was warm and satisfying. I do recommend that if you like your eggs over easy to order it over medium instead. I think this place rates at the top of my list for good food in Maui.

I’ll make this quick. In a span of 2 years, I’ve ate here 3 times and each and every time it has been a disappointment. The first two times, I along with some coworkers tried breakfast. The thought was, «Come on, breakfast, who can mess that up?» TWICE. Well fast forward to 2011 Valentine’s Day, with the recommendation from one of my best friends, I decided to pick my wife up, for a surprise luncheon. Prior to this, I read, both reviews and thought, maybe it really has changed. So we ordered the Ahi Wrap and the Fish and Chips. Ahi Wrap was extremely dry, and I have a feeling they forgot the Aioli, which would have made a major difference. I used the Thai Chili sauce that came with my wife’s fish and chips and it made the wrap bearable. I also ordered the waffle fries which saved the day. Actually, I could only finish one half of the wrap. Let me say that I’m a big guy and you’ll never catch me with a doggy bag. I won’t even go deep into my wife’s fish and chips. She ate one piece and that was it. Fish tasteless, and tarter sauce was runny. She didn’t even want to chance tasting it. Wife and I are big supporters of local business and will always eat local before we go to the national chains. I think it’s time that we expect better from our long time local establishments. Sorry, I can’t recommend this place to anyone. Oh and as for my best buddy who recommended this place to me, practically ruining Valentine’s Day, he’s paying for lunch next.

yummm! Lunch was awesome!!! Fresh salad bar! Kalua pig sliders on their freshly made sweet bread rolls, with slaw and the best bbq sauce ever! The waffle fries are to die for too! The Ahi wrap is the bomb, had a bite of that too. Can’t wait to go back and try the furikake crusted chicken katsu and the chopped steak which I have been hearing tons about! :-)

Went back to Coconut Grill several times before this date eating and loving their baked oysters, then for long time we didn’t go back because it gets really sticky and uncomfortable to enjoy this good food without air condition! BUT, when I finally went back cause we were loving their baked oyster appetizers we found out 2 things. One, they took the Oysters off the menu!!! A waiter told us that they never did have oysters, I was like what? Hello?! Don’t say that if you wasn’t working here for a year. Second, they put Air Conditioners!!! Now, I am defiantly wanting to go back. The good thing is too that they never raised the prices just to put the AC in too. These guys was the only people that made baked oysters, especially at a nice local environment. Now there is NO restaurant in Kahului, Makawao or Kihei that does Baked Oysters. Only at the Four Seasons Wailea and some restaurant in Lahaina, too far to drive out there. The bathrooms were clean and it was funny that they had a elephant head on their water faucet.
