Last night my dad told me to check it out, and they are one of the few places that will actually sell liquor out the door instead of having to sit at the small house bar and drink ! Definitely pricey but it’s been around for awhile for a specific reason(s) ! The hours and accessibility/availability !

I should have posted this a few weeks ago when I was there I had a steak dinner and it was absolutely delicious the guy who cooked it said his name was Mike and even though I feel like I can cook better than him he did a damn good job I immensely enjoyed it my waitress Chris was a total sweetheart she kept my diet 7up filled and she made sure that I was never in want of anything all in all it may be a dive but it’s a damn good dive

I was in there a few nights ago and people were smoking by the gambling machines. Nothing makes you want to have dinner like stale smoke wafting through the air. Yuck.

I have read reviews that question this joint beyond belief. What a bunch of shit! I have no affiliation with Malnar’s Tap what-so-ever other than I will make a point to stop in for a quick beer from time to time if I can. «I will make a point to do so». This is a family business and they have no choice what ass holes prowl the location late at night. Use common sense and stay at home if you are meek and impressionable. And Yes, this is a true neighborhood dive bar that continues to prosper beyond the shadow of extinction…“just because it can”. Take it or leave it… just understand it!

I can’t say I’m overjoyed with their food. My bf had the hamburger there and said it was delicious. I will say it was pretty huge and looked pretty good. I had the fried fish and I thought it was ok. The people there were friendly enough.

Total dive!!! I live less then a block away and don’t go there any more! Because almost every time I have gone there in the last 4 years some older guy(50’s to 60’s) will try to start a fight(a different guy every time) Seriously these guys are all past that age and should know better, come on their my Dad’s age! I’m not the type of guy how looks for that, at 35 I’m to old for that. It sucks that some the«regulars» rune it, because the foods good and the staff was nice. It would be great if the bartenders would cut people off before it gets to that point. I think the cut off point should be the following. When a person, Can’t stand Can’t keep both eyes open(just 1 doesn’t count) Can’t speak any known language Or falls off a bar stool(no B. S I’ve seen it) If you want to stop in for a meal do it early before the«regulars» get to tanked!!!

Dont judge this place by the way i looks on the outside, food is great. Steak dinner on Wednesdays are the best around. The steaks are very thick cut and seasoned well.

This place looks pretty questionable from the outside. I have only been in here to sit and have lunch at the bar. I really wouldn’t expect great service sitting at a table, but maybe there is more help around dinner hours. I haven’t had a lot of things off the menu, but I must say that the Reuben is one of the best I have had! I have tried a lot of them too. The fries are great too. I will definitely go back and try more items off the menu. It appears to be some good bar food!

We’ve had the pizza special before and it was pretty decent for a 5 topping pizza for $ 10. Walked it for dinner the other night and it was so hot in there we had to leave!!! Moral of the story is don’t go on a hot summer night I guess!

Down the street from me, but we rarely go. The only excellent food I’ve had there is the steak dinner, which is definitely reasonably priced on top of great tasting. I think they serve that on Friday nights. I would have to agree with everyone else on the pizza… there are plenty of places around that are better.

Good god was the pizza horrible! I only got it since a 14″ was $ 10 on Thursdays. The only thing you can taste was the crust that had a cardboard aftertaste to it and there’s barely any sauce on it. The pizza itself is one star but, I liked everything else about the place. First off, the atmosphere is your classic divey bar with very laid back service and clientele that’s indeed 20 – 30 years older than me. Everybody was nice and it seemed like most of the patrons were regulars and knew each other. Their 1 pound burger, for $ 8.95 with fries, really made up from their awful pizza. People that I know that have been there quite a bit tell me that their steak and fish fry is the best thing to get there.

This place is a dive. I wouldn’t highly recommend it. It is in the middle of no where in a resendential area of Joliet. The food is over fried and the pizza tastes like it came from the frozen food section of a cheap supermarket. never get food from a bar in a resedeatial area and the bar being a former house. Just stick with the suds if you come here and want to see a creppy Norman bates type bar

There’s a Fountains of Wayne song that has the line«drinkin’ beer at roadside bars.» Malnar’s reminds me of bars I’ve been to while road-tripping to Wisconsin and Michigan, stopping for a beer along the way at the divey bar with the Old Style sign dangling just past the gravel shoulder. Malnar’s serves up a mean no frills Friday Fish Fry. As it should be, 3 hearty pieces of lightly breaded cod served up with fries, slaw, tartar sauce and a BUTTERED piece of bread. Too much butter, actually! And you don’t need to mask the fish with hot sauce or malt vinegar because it’s great on its own. They tout their fried chicken too. Will have to try if I’m ever back in Jolly-et. Malnar’s has an unassuming look on the outside. Beer sign dangling, windowless wooden door that leads to a brightly lit WI or MI rustic roadside-looking bar area. There are several tables to eat at, a pool table and cheap drinks. Service was great. Not the«ohhwhwwhh, my name is Chicago and I’ll be your server tonight…» schpeal. It was«you guys eatin’ or just drinkin’ ta-night?» We said, «eatin’», ordered our fish fry and she was all smiles, didn’t turn in to Haley’s Waitress(also another Fountains of Wayne reference for you music geeks). If I lived in this neighborhood, I’d be here 6 – 8 nights a week! Perhaps singing a certain Beatles tune…
