Emory Johns Creek Hospital

My Mother had a laminectomy on L2-​L3. She has 55 pieces of existing metal in her back. Dr. Florence Barnett was absolutely fantastic & a very caring advocate for her patients.
Our nurses varied from wonderful to horrible. A big shout out to Lester & Kim (3^rd shift) and Albert (1^st shift).
Definitely recommend any patient have a family member to stay during their visit along with nights!

This review is for the Emory Physicians Center, which is part of the hospital. Super expensive! I had a 10 minute office visit with Dr. Olufade, for back pain, and was charged $ 712 ($ 486 for the office visit plus $ 226 for x-​rays). His only recommendation was to go to physical therapy. I also used Emory for the PT, and was charged $ 860 for 4 visits that didn’t help at all! In fact, the PT for my back ended up injuring my hip. Eesh.

I love this b/​c it is clean and has great, friendly, and kind employees to work with and they make you a better person.

This location is very poorly run. I think it’s hard to get talent so far out in the burgs. Good doctors don’t want to travel that far and there is no easy way to get on the interstate. Nurses are rude and tell you they are too busy to give medications on time. I could hear patients actually yelling for help for hours. Chart mix ups. Medical staff not checking your chart before giving treatment. The rooms aren’t cleaned properly. It was one mix up after another. I will never go back to this location. Check the top hospital list in Metro Atlanta. Emory did not make it! None of the location!

I have visited this hospital many times. The volunteers are out of their way helpful and guide me to the right area. The ER is great but as always there will be a wait as they take the more urgent patients before the ones with sniffles. Many times, there is no one waiting.
The hospital is clean, welcoming and doing their best to make your time there go as smoothly as possible. I would recommend it highly.

Hospitals are never a fun. And, the emergency room visits are even less. Experience becomes more difficult to bear when technicians can’t draw blood smoothly. Frustrating…

Vann — Manager, Nurses — Elena (excellent — finding vein for iv!) Great personality. — Terry and Lisa — she is very attentive.
Dr. Pore and Dr. Callahan were great.

HORRIBLE
I would not recommend this hospital to anyone. The way they treated my wife during the roughest time of our lives — when we lost our unborn baby — was absolutely atrocious. After our complaints were lodged, they sent a curt letter stating that they «thank us for bringing our concerns to their attention, as we take these seriously in our attempt to provide 100% patient satisfaction.» I do not think they have a clue what patient satisfaction is.
Dr. Greg Fountain was no better. In breaking the news to us that our baby had Monosomy X, he had his nurse call my wife — not him — who didn’t bother to ask if she was driving, alone, at work, etc. before telling my wife there was a problem. My wife thought the call was going to be to let us know what the sex of the baby was. She was elated when she picked up the phone. Instead this nurse launches into what sounded like a script that they needed to refer us to a genetic specialist and that the tests came back showing Monosomy X. My wife, who thankfully was home and not driving, collapsed to the floor in the kitchen. She finally told the nurse to stop talking and asked what Monosomy X was. She stated she did not know, as she had never had to deal with it before.
I was out of town on biz. She was home alone, freaking out, with nobody to assist, and he has a nurse call who doesn’t even know what it is. Nice work, doc.
So, the next day we go in for an ultrasound and they can no longer detect a heartbeat. We schedule a DNC for the next day with heavy and broken hearts.
Surgery was scheduled for mid-​morning, so my wife can’t eat after midnight. We show up on time, which was early in the morning. We wait. And wait. And wait. Noon comes and goes. 1pm. 2pm.
While she and my mom are walking around trying to pass the time, she feels a problem. She rushes to the rest room, where she ends up having the miscarriage. You can only imagine how that is about as horrible a thing that can happen to a mother — to a human being — as is possible.
They finally get her to the pre-​op around 3. The nurses, who apparently cannot read a chart, come in all cheery and «Hi! How are YOU doing today?!» How about a little sympathy? Not chit chat about your social lives with the other nurses like the people around you are not there? We all understand it is just a job, but damn.
Then, while trying to get the IV hooked up, they cannot find her vein. They try repeatedly on both arms, and then make a game out of it with multiple people coming in and trying to find it! Sticking her numerous times and callously teasing each other when they cannot get it started. They finally get someone with an ultrasound to find the vein.
She finally gets taken into the OR around 5pm. She is starving, poked dozens of times, had a miscarriage in the public bathroom, all on top of losing our first baby. And these «people» (and I use the term loosely), have deemed that she «received appropriate care and treatment.» We still receive baby stuff and offers in the mail nearly two years after this happened thanks to some mailing list the doctor’s office put us on.
Nobody ever asked if she was ok after she had the miscarriage in the rest room, never a follow up call from the doctor’s office to see if she was alright, if she needed counseling, anything. We just started getting bills — NEARLY TWO YEARS LATER! — from various vendors, one of which who have not said one thing about our insurance not paying until they send a threatening letter giving us 30 days to pay an $ 795 «preferred rate» which Dr. Fountain stated would only be $ 300 and $ 350 if our insurance didn’t pay it.
I highly recommend avoiding this place.

I agree with others that St. John’s Creek Hospital is a poorly run organization and their nursing staff is terrible and disorganized. I was admitted on 9÷27÷12 for an elective orthopedic procedure. During my five day stay, the medical staff failed to properly care for me. I was constantly woken up for routine vital signs. One of the nurses on the medical surgical floor started to bully me when I asked questions about the aspects of my medical care.
During one of the evening shifts, a registered nurse in charge of my pain management, administered an injection of demerol into my intravenous line way too fast which caused my heart function to go into atrial fibrillation. I was given emergency drugs to reverse the arrhythmia which required further cardiovascular testing and management.
My lumbar surgical dressing was not changed after my operation. I was discharged with a dirty, soiled bandage where I had to do my own dressing change at home. There wasn’t any real follow up care. I left feeling dissatisfied knowing that I had an extremely, unpleasant stay.
When I contacted the hospital management to voice my concerns about the substandard treatment, the entire incident was dismissed. My complaints were not at all investigated nor was the bad nursing care dealt with by the administration. I would not recommend this hospital to anyone for any acute medical inpatient treatment.

OH NO, NOT MY BABY!!!
It is shortly after 6am, I am still in the process of waking up. My daughter knocks on the door and says that my son is at work and has cut his finger OFF! I speak to my son and say call an ambulance but he is already in the car driving himself to the ER at Emory.
I hop in the car and immediately start praying out loud and all I can think about is «Did he get the finger, is it on ice, did he secure the building, how is he able to drive, will they be able to reattach the finger»?? My mind is absolutely racing and I practically jump out of the car before my husband fully stops. I race to the ER, they don’t know the extent of the injury but after assessment I am told that the finger is in tact, there is no injury to the bone and only the artery was slightly nicked, (hence the excessive bleeding).
Talk about relief! At this point, I laugh because I am instantly transported back in time when my son was very young but very extreme in his reaction toward being injured. Let’s just say when it came to illness or injury, he was the master of hyperbole. Apparently, nothing has changed.
Kudos to Dr. Harsheel Desai who has a wonderful bedside manner and handled the situation beautifully. He has a tendency toward a light sense of humor which is very calming and I find him to be very comforting and reassuring. His process was minimally invasive and did not even require a shot to numb the area. This is the second time Dr. Desai has treated my son for a hand injury at the ER and his first experience went smoothly as well.
Nurse Lynn was awesome as well because she was very pleasant and just kept things moving right along. She too had a great manner about her and was very gently with my son. I appreciated her taking the time to compliment me regarding my son’s demeanor and manner, (sweet, kind, polite, cooperative and always as cool as a cucumber just like his father) :)
The third member of the treatment team wore a backwards facing tag and green scrubs. We did not get her name but would like to thank her as well. The entire team was very professional and very calming in a time of high anxiety.
Now for the shade. Ms. Shady sits behind the desk giving shade and looking dour. She gives you no greeting or smile and speaks to you only when she’ s misrepresenting the rules.
For example when I was making a call in the hallway, she said that I had to go into the waiting room to make a call, while the lovely Nurse Lynn said that I could actually make the call from my son’s room
Ms. Shady tells my daughter that she can not visit her brother because there are too many people are in the room, while the lovely Nurse Lynn says that my daughter may indeed come in since my son is allowed two visitors at a time.
Despite Ms. Shady the Emory ER receives 5 stars because this is my fourth visit and treatment is always stellar. Ms Shady is that bruised part of an otherwise flawless apple that you simply cut away and forget.

My mother who was 80 years old had a horrific time overnight. The nurses put the sides of her bed up. My mother woke up And tried calling the nurses with the buzzer. No one came to check on her all night. She needed to go to her restroom but never could get them to come. She COUKD hear them laughing down the hall. Finally she had to get on her hands and knees and use a styrofoam coffee cup and pee in it. She was so upset the next morning. No apologies from any of the staff. Do not take your loved ones there!

All I’m saying is my friend hurt his head bad, had a blunt trauma to the head, hit a water heater on his way down to concrete and was bleeding out of his head with a bad headache after losing consciousness. We arrived at 1:30am. Waited and finally were taken back waited another an hour just to see a nurse, all she did was check blood pressure. Then 2 hours later a ct scan, no one has yet to address the bleeding wound. Waited 2 hours for ct scan results… still nothing? It’s 5:20 am and still no doctor… some emergency room? No one was in any kind of hurry and when we asked why it was taking so long we received no answers. Prepare to wait long long hours in the emergency room.

I would not want my worst enemy to be treated at Emory Johns creek! The staff is overwhelmed and nonchalant, the wait time for triage is 1.5 hours and they have no rooms! What hospital runs out of rooms? No excuses for this hospital to be this disorganized.

Worst. ICU. Experience. Ever.
Party in the Intensive Care Unit on a Saturday morning? Yep it happened to me morning of March 15, 2014 just outside my glass ICU door room 304. When I complained to the charge nurse about it, she opened the blinds to my room to spy on me. When I called security to complain about the college students partying just outside my door, the security officer THREATENED ME. Needless to say, I ripped the IV out of my arm and got the hell out of there. I would not recommend Emory JC Hospital if you were dying. Better to shlep down to Northside where at least you will be given the respect of peace and quiet instead of complete disregard for human life.

I’ve always had great care here. Not too long of a wait. This is the only place I’d tell anybody I cared about to go …
Now if I don’t like you well … :-) I’d tell you to go elsewhere … Because you don’t deserve the good treatment!
(But that would be mean right?)

Some WORKER in the ER waiting room STOLE my iPad between Tuesday at 11pm to 4pm on Wednesday.
On Sunday at 6pm, my mom had an accident and ended up going to this Emergency Room. I was so worry about her and forgot my daughter iPad at the Waiting Room. Finally, I remembered where I saw it last time and immediately went to the ER Waiting Room to check for it. The lady working between 3−11pm shift told me that she last saws that Ipad at 11pm on Tuesday before she left work. Somehow the person who works between 11pm-​7am or 7am — 3pm shift STOLE my iPad. I have been visiting the ER Waiting Room for a couple times and called to talk to the Supervisors too, but it seems like nobody wants to return it back to me.
WHAT A DISAPPOINTED I HAVE FROM THIS HOSPITAL
I called Natasha Barney, who is the Director or Manager, who has to take care of the problem or complain from Patient or Family, a couple of times but she has not returned my call back for 2 days already.
I keep calling and ask to talk to Natasha, but it seems like she ignores my message.
I thought Emory Hospital is a good Hospital with Honesty, but from this incident, I would not want to go to this Hospital for any reason.

When someone left their belongings there, they need to keep it in a LOST & FOUND place so people can come back and claim for it. BUT NO, THEY WANT TO KEEP THOSE AND WOULD NOT WANT TO RETURN TO THE OWNER.
NO ONE WANTS TO RESPONSIBLE OR TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM!!!

Wow, a hospital that has an average of 4.5 stars, I’m impressed, however, I should not be surprised given by my experience.
My grandfather came here back in 2010 to FINALLY remove his trach that should have been removed almost 13 years ago. We have been going to his otolaryngologist quite regularly throughout the months leading up to this day to make sure it was the best move for my grandfather, given that if the procedure did not go well, my grandfather would not be able to breathe, and would have to reinsert the trach. So, after months of weening my grandfather off breathing through his trach and breathing through his nose, the doctor was comfortable going through with the surgery.
We arrived, and the entire process was quite simple. We came in on two different days. The first day was to receive all the information about surgery, the pre-​operational stages, where they ask for your consent to be treated, to use anesthesia, get all prior medical knowledge and family medical history. This process took less than 2 hours max. Afterwards, they took us around and showed us where we would come in the day of the surgery and how to get there. They showed us ahead of time where the waiting room was, and all other useful places, so that we wouldn’t waste time the day of surgery.
The day of surgery went smoothly. We did not have an obnoxious wait like most hospitals make you have, despite a set appointment time, and because they have you come in a few days before for pre-​op, it takes a lot of time out on the actual day you get surgery.
The waiting room for family members is quite spacious which is nice, and they have a board with the last name showing to allow family members to see what stage, surgery/​procedure or post-​op, so that family members can somewhat know what is going on rather than being completely in the dark.
My grandpa’s surgery took roughly 3 – 4 hours, including time for him to relax and lay around while the anesthesia wore off. After we left, my grandfather had a few complications that left him bleeding in my backseat while I drove back to his doctor, which then we drove straight to the ER for another procedure. Keep in mind, this hospital is a good 30 minute drive, and we were in traffic, on local roads, in the rain.
Anyway, we got to the ER, they took his ID and insurance cards, and started operating immediately. My grandmother and I waited around, and afterwards, they said that they wanted to keep him in over night just to make sure.
Down side, they only let one family member stay overnight with patients, which was quite a burden since I had to drive home (30mins) to grab clothes, medicine, etc for my grandparents, come back (30mins), take my grandmother out to grab food because it was so late in the evening, the hospital café had closed, and then go back home to sleep, to wake up 4 hours later, to come back to pick them up when he was able to be discharged, and go home. Way unnecessary, but looking back, I’d do it again just because I loved my experience here. I honestly wish this could be our regular hospital, but it is SO out the way that I doubt it’ll ever happen again :[
Overall, great hospital, great staff members, and overall great experience.

If you met my best friends (who happen to be twins) and their parents– you would see that they are very humble, very welcoming people. They all have a dark sense of humor, which I can appreciate greatly. So a few weeks ago, when the mom needed to go to the hospital, the father stated, «I picked this place because it’s a rich person’s hospital». While he intended it as a joke, I could see where he was coming from!
About 10 minutes from our house (s) [we live a street apart from each other], Emory Johns Creek is a new, and very nice campus. I would consider it a great addition to the northern burbs of Atlanta.
Unfortunately, I only got to visit her once in the hospital, but I was glad I did– not only to see her, but to check out this place (in case I ever need to be a patient!) as well. When you pull up, parking is free, and it looks like the have valet, as well! I did not take advantage of the valet.
When walking into the lobby, I noticed how clean everything was. That was a plus! And then it was time to go into the elevator… I won’t lie– I think someone was using the elevators to transport reefer– because DAMN– it smelled like skunk in BOTH elevators! I almost started snooping around, but I felt that I would look even more out of place than usual.
I was told she had spent a few days in ICU before getting transferred, and I only got to see the room she was in. It was a very spacious room, with all of the fixings. There was a long padded bench, along with a recliner. And a TV. Xbox, anyone?
One thing I thought was really cool, was the in room dining menu, for the patients. I always knew that the health care industry was in need of specialized chefs to assist in the strict dietary guidelines of patients, and seeing this menu– I was impressed. I could have pretended I was a patient, and eaten here!
We ended up ordering her food, but it took forever. We were wondering why every one else was getting food, but her! I was about to go gank some food, then we found out she needed doctors clearance before she could eat the food she ordered. That did suck, as we waited for 2 hours without them telling us until after waiting that long. There were 4 starving males in that room!!!
Overall, this seems like a solid place if you have any medical needs that require more than seeing the doctor. Glad I got to check it out!

No fun being at the hospital but the Nurses, Technicians, & Doctors wonderful. Instead of leaving your room for tests, they wheel in high tech machines and perform the test right in your room. Very cool. Unfortunately at the hospital for so long I had to have a bit to eat. Cafeteria clean, clam chowder only $ 1.50 and great, Baklava .59 each (had to get some just to bring home). Cheap and excellent food helped helped make the experience be a bit more pleasant.

Beautiful campus, ample (free) parking, and a quick, efficient registration process. The physician’s building is seamlessly connected to the hospital for maximum access.
If I’m sick or in need of medical attention, this is where I want to be.
