Taphaus

So so place, food and service is okay if you got no where else to go. Only good thing about the place is the view. Burger (Mediterranean Lamb) was dry and ultimate veggie burger was okay.

We reserved an area of the restaurant for our welcoming event for our wedding. Taphaus offers a perspective of NYC that’s arguably unbeatable. All of our out-​of-​town guests got to experience the incredible skyline views while mingling and enjoying beer and food. Reserving the space with John P. was very easy and we had two designated servers for our group of about 50 people.

So the one star is for the view and the mussels… that’s it!
Service was awful, our waitress barely came to our table, my husband and I both ordered fish, «pan seared»…the fish was fried with a crust, our drinks were empty for about 20 minutes, the entire dinner we had nothing to drink, our plates were never cleaned from the appetizer, we asked for some bread for the mussels and we got 2 little tiny pieces of super thin bread about 15 minutes later… definitely not going back, nor will recommend to anyone!

The view !!! But that’s not what sold me the drinks were fresh and freezing cold great tasting food and ambiance !!!

Food was amazing. Service was terrible. Messed up our order and our bill multiple times. Recommend the salmon, kale caesar, grilled avocado salad, and the fries. Would go back.

Very very disappointed yet again. I came in the other day to find my go to server, Alissa was no longer working there. If Taphaus has any chance to bring her back, do it now please!
I will not recommend this to my friends because they’d rather trade good service for subpar service.

Great drinks and bartenders but table service sucks! Been waiting 20 mins already, no one came by to serve us on the table.

Good place to hangout, great views, and good food, but poor service. We got our table after 60 to 80 mins of wait, there were people who came after us got their table before us (what is the point of having a receptionist?), even after we got our table, we didn’t get a server for another 30 mins (I guess tonight they were really confuse or under staffed). All in all table service is really bad. At this point I am not sure if I am going to come here again.

I didn’t think I would like it as much as I did because all my fellow Unilocalers said there were service issues. There’s nothing that ruins a restaurant more than bad service! I came here with my friend who was visiting during the week for lunch. I wanted a restaurant with a view that was reasonably priced. We actually did have really great service, but that’s probably because the place wasn’t busy. I loved the wide open space with the great view. It had a loft type of vibe going on. Unfortunately, the outside patio wasn’t open yet, but we did get a great table next to the large windows.
We both ended up ordering the taphaus burger and some beers. I thought they had a pretty extensive beer menu and I liked how they split it up between types (IPA, Pale Ale, Lagers, etc.) I hate when all the beers are piled together and I have to keep asking which ones are which. The burger was so good, seriously one of the best burgers I’ve ever had. We ordered ours cooked differently and they both came out the way we requested. The fries were equally delish– a perfect amount of crispness.
Hopefully I get a chance to come back here this summer so I can enjoy the patio!

I went to this place for a friends graduation dinner. The location is second to none. The live music was very nice and made the environment very warm and inviting. The waitress assigned to our table was even extremely friendly and attentive. However, and I do mean however… the food was horrible; and I’m an easy person to please. They served finger foods which consisted of grilled chicken with peanut sauce (disgusting) tasted like someone rubbed peanut butter on a strip of chicken and served it. The macaroni and cheese ball which was supposed to be a vegetarian side for those who don’t eat meat ended up having ham inside… need I say more. I would only come back to buy a beer and enjoy the view but would not come here to dine or host an event.

The view gets it a four, the food and service pops a three. While quite open for a Sunday afternoon, we got the requisite ‘lets see if we can find you a table’ spiel. We got our apps before our drinks arrived (?, don’t they want to sell booze?) and the pretzel was, as they said, enough for four. The service was kinda scattered, the entrees took a good while to come out (which again gave them time to take more drink orders-​which we had to ask again). It’s not their fault the clueless family next to us was letting their young girl bounce and jump from the ‘reserved’ barstools along the river facing windows-​but maybe they could’ve stepped in.
Burgers were a bit overcooked, fries not piping hot (but not cold enough to send back, especially given how long the food took to arrive), and they corrected one menu order error promptly.
There’s a very convenient parking lot adjacent (but pricy), and we’ll go back-it’s a wow view perfect for out of town friends on a nice day or starlit evening.

Came to watch the America’s Cup with a group of friends. We got seats by the window with a stellar view. Good band was playing. My friends got there around noon and I didn’t get there until 2:30. So I needed to catch up. Unfortunately, despite trying to flag down a waiter, I didn’t get a drink order taken until 3:00PM. Then my waiter forgot about my drink order and it took another half hour to order from another waiter and finally get my drink. Waiter #1 delivered drink #1 at the same time drink #2 arrived. Apologized and took drink #1 away. After waiting over an hour for a drink, he probably should have just left it but didn’t give me the opportunity to ask. It was easier to order at the bar but for some reason, Taphaus won’t combine bar and table tabs which is mystifying. I’m sure the food was great but I was afraid to order because I thought it might take a couple hours to get a meal and we were leaving around 5PM. I ended up catching a meal at our next stop.
I heard this was the grand reopening so service should have been on point. I really wanted to like this spot but left feeling annoyed.

When here for lunch on Saturday (⁵⁄₉). The location was great and the live music (New Orlean’s style) was great as well.
We all ordered beers and the first round was good. We order burgers, salads and a very appetizers. The pretzel was good, maybe a little too buttery. The burgers were both good and the fries we okay.
I order the kale caesar with steak, asking for medium rare. The steak came out separately from the salad and way closer to well done with a considerable amount of gristle. We also ordered fried mushrooms to share that were very greasy and overall not appetizing.
We had ordered a Narraganset and a Fat Tire. When we received the second round, I am fairly confident that my beer had morphed into a Bud Light and the Fat Tire was pretty flat. Though we didn’t complain about it.
Overall, the service and food were lacking. The space itself was great and has great potential.

This bar was recently taken over by new management. Along with this change came a new chef, menu, and wait staff. My coworkers and I have been to this place prior to the changes and had a great time. However, my coworker and I recently visited and did not have a good experience.
1) All the wait staff seemed confused/​improperly trained. We asked to speak to a manager 4 different times to discuss hosting a corporate happy hour. We had 3 different waitresses serve us food and drinks and had to ask 4 different times for the check.
2) They removed the happy hour bar bites menu which came as a surprise to us because there are so many corporate businesses in Newport and the menu was great. They now only have drink specials and the new menu does not have typical Biergarten/​German food.
3) While the service wasn’t the best, the taphaus burger we ordered was good and ultimately management took care of the issues with our bill (we wanted to use a 20% off coupon and had waited over 15 mins for someone to get us our check even after we had mentioned that we were in a rush).

I really wanted to like this place for it’s amazing views of Manhattan and proximity to my apartment. Alas, it was not meant to be.
The bar was crowded with after-​work men, so we opted to sit at the table along the window. The views are amazing and very serene.
The hostesses have the personality of dry, hard toast. No smile, no conversation, NADA.
Our server took over 10 minutes to come to our table which was a little annoying. Their happy hour is lame as it’s $ 5 draft beers Monday thru Friday from 4pm-​7pm. They used to have half price appetizer, but no longer.
I asked for the Velvet Bow Tie but I was told they are not able to make this.
I then opted for the Temptress Traveler which just tasted terrible. They were not able to master the combination of orange bitters and grapefruit ale. The waiter even told me to mix the drink when he gave it to me. For $ 12 shouldn’t they mix the drink for me?
The cesar salad (made with Kale and Pecorino) had wayyy wayy to much cheese. It tasted more like cheese with a side of Kale. It was not enjoyable.
The side of macaroni & cheese ($ 5) tasted like boxed mac & cheese. No flavor at all.
The Taphaus burger was pretty good as well as the fries.
They also accepted our 20% off coupon for food (via Unilocal) which was a plus.
I really wish they would improve their cocktails because this place has so much potential to make great craft cocktails.

Amazing views here — you just had to put floor to ceiling windows with a perfect location like this, and that’s exactly what they did here at Taphaus.
Have been here a few times for lunch and dinner, and it’s worth taking people here purely for the view alone. They have a fairly large beer selection, and more substantial food selection than a lot of the bars in JC. Have had the short rib burger, which was good, but the wursts I’ve had for lunch were a little on the bland side.

I think this is all about location! I enjoyed foods and the beautiful night scene with my company. Surf and Turf was good. Surf and Turf, Sausage I forgot the name and 2 beers and a cup of tea were worth about $ 60. Food is 3 stars but the scene from here is so gorgeous and 5 stars!

This place is pretty legit.
I came here for the beer and I was not disappointed. Great beer selection. I was drinking the St. Bernardus Abby Quad on tap. There are a lot of choices, no crap on tap, and it rotates. Love the view.
The food is legit. My favorite were the crab cakes. Also good were the wing and marmesan truffle fries.
Sort of random but I love the stools. There seats on top of giant springs.

This place has improved since opening a little over a year ago. Good selection of drinks and well made food. Service can be a bit spotty and slow, but it’s generally worth the wait.
Don’t forget you’ll have great views of New York from here as well.

Cannot imaging I haven’t been to this place since my move last year. The view was unsurpassable and food was delicious. They have the 20% off coupon for entire table so good bargain for a casual gather-​together.
Decided to pursue a light dinner, we only got three appetizers (which turned out to be big portions!) short rib on bread, grilled octopus and mussel. Their specialty drink vodka with watermelon was amazingly good on the other hand.
Sit at the table next to window, you would get the full scene of Hudson River.
