Sarku is located inside the Newport mall on the 3rd Floor food court. They have recently updated the food area to have more seating and more modern décor. What could go wrong? Its just chicken, rice, vegetables, and teriyaki sauce. I heard other people complain about the food but the times I was here, the food was cooked fine. I usually order the chicken and shrimp teriyaki with the white rice. If you order the fried rice it’s questionable because it might be the old rice your eating from the prior day. Stay with the white rice, its more fresh and a healthier choice. The food court has gotten better with the extra seating but still is crowded with the corporate folks at lunch time. Its tough to pay for parking if you just want to lunch here. It 2 bucks for the hour which is terrible if you want to grab and go meal. This place is okay if you are craving some Japanese Teriyaki chicken and that’s it.

I ordered a roll of 8 avocado tuna, it was ok for the price $ 4.00. My only complain was the pieces of Tuna were a bit small.

I went to Sarku today and I regretted, the fried rice is the worst I’ve ever tried in my opinion it tasted like it was old and going bad.

You would be lying if you never circled around the food court in order to get double samples. I don’t even know what else is on the menu for I have been only getting the Chicken Teriyaki for about 8 years now. Extra veggies of course. There food isn’t expensive and if you were to get double meat, there will be enough for seconds.

Tasteless and greasy chicken. The plate is stuffed with rice and very less chicken. I would not recommend this place.

Around this time of the year, I as a blue blooded American get sentimental and patriotic. Gay marriage is legal and AHA(obamacare) works just like a dandy. But on the other side of the coin, when it comes to food America is in a race to the bottom. At Sarku everything(including the veg) tastes like used frier grease. Dry chicken, greasy noodles and overly sweet teriyaki sauce. I’ve found a new low when it comes to commoditized lowest common denominator mall food. Congratulations America, it’s come to this. We’re #1!

I have been eating at this place for YEARS! The food is always great and fresh. They cook all the meat on the grille right in front of you. I usually get the chickens and shrimp combo with fried rice.

Not many options at this location but they are truly not needed anyways. Their chicken terriyaki amazing, their soba noodles are good but I ask for extra sauce and it makes the noodles even better! Their white rice is good, but I’m not really a fan of their vegetable rice. Portions are decent, and you can always get more meat for a small fee. I definitely recommend. They also give out sample which will definitely win you over!

That’s right. Four(4) friggin stars & they’re all for the Chicken Teriyaki. Is it authentic teriyaki? Who knows. Is it even chicken? Probably. Is the cashier unintelligible & rude? Absolutely. But who cares. Been eating this stuff for almost 2 decades. And it. Tastes. GOOD. Forget everything else. The veggie side dish compliments the chicken too. Grilled & plated right in front of you. And all for a pittance. Can’t beat that.

Step one: pile rice into a styrofoam container. Step two: fry canned shrimp and mushrooms in vegetable oil Step three: pile the fried canned shrimp and mushrooms on top of rice. Teriyaki Shrimp! Huzzah! And it’s not very cheap to boot. There must be better options at the Newport Center than this.

Worst customer service imaginable. I’d give it zero if I could but the saving grace is that my stomach pangs were taken care of fast. The line is typically 30 deep on the weekends so there is a person walking down the aisle taking orders on a post it note and I got quoted 8.50 for a Chicken Teriyaki double meat with white rice and a side of veggies and then when I got to the counter the total magically became over $ 10. I told them the original price quote and they kept yelling the figure they pulled up. You pay for what you get. You’re just in an assembly line fashion, next, next! They don’t communicate at all between the time they take the order to the guy with the fountain soda to the cashier to the person scooping the rice and the finally there’s like three guys waiting at the end where they shoved your food to the very end where it almost fell off the counter. The hot sauce packets are next to the soda machine and the forks, spoons, and straws are directly in front of the cashier. Everything is chaotic and they’re working like crazy to get you in and out in under a few minutes. They should have trays like in the school cafeteria and don’t give a rat’s ass whether you dropped the food after you already paid. This is simultaneously the best place to get ghetto quality fast food combined with the worst customer service possible. If you don’t care whether the service sucks or not, then you’re right at home here.

This sushi joint is located in the newport mall. I have frequented this place and is surely the best place among the mediocre food in the mall. Food — The sushi is about average. I have had the Tuna roll, bento box and the veg sushi. The salmon in the bento box seemed fresh but would prefer a uniform cut. I didnt particularly like the meso soup. Service & Ambience — Its a quick serve kind of a joint in the food court. The servers are pretty quick with the orders. Cost — ~$ 10 per pax

The food is grilled and made right in front of you fresh. The chicken, shrimp, and beef is all delicious. They have average prices for the quality of food and amount you receive. I really would not recommend the sushi though. It is just ok nothing that great in my opinion. I would pick Sarku Japan over any regular Chinese spot any day!

I love eating at this place they offer double meat for those that like extra meat. i love the chicken teriyaki, and beef teriyaki. Very nice staff they give you extra sauce if you ask. If you haven’t eaten from here then you should try. i haven’t tried their seafood because I’m allergic but I pretty sure it taste good a lot of people I see order chicken with shrimp or shrimp by its self. They are very clean

I went to the Sushi bar. The sushi was OK. I ordered the fusion rolls. I probably should have ordered the regular rolls. I woud give them another shot.

Not bad for mall food, the chicken teriyaki is very consistent and they give you a double portion for relatively cheap. The steamed vegetables, rice, and noodle aren’t much to speak of, but it is always packed. Salty teriyaki on blanched veggies… nothing crazy fancy here. A note to self — closed early on Sundays(or maybe all of Sunday?).

Sarku has two booths in the Newport Center food court. One has hot, cooked food. I didn’t go there. The other is a sushi bar where they make the rolls and such right in front of you. With so many other options here that are all deep fried fat, it’s nice to have a healthier alternative. The rolls are nothing to write home about, but they are well assembled and fresh. I have no complaints at all. It’s a food court. This isn’t Ruth’s Chris.

I think Unilocal puts it best: 2 — stars«Meh. I’ve experienced better.» The food here gets the job done and you shouldn’t expect more from a food court shop. The food was very«Meh» although you do get your money’s worth. It would have been better if the guy ringing us up wasn’t a complete asshole either. Yes, your accent can make you hard to understand. A decent mall food. I got their chicken teriyaki and rice plate. They serve a decent portion for the price and the taste was decent to good. For a place in a mall food court I would have to say it is pretty good and I could see myself eating here again. All in all I would recommend this place to anyone who finds themselves in this mall when their belly starts a grumbling for chicken and rice.
