Cute old world feel in the place. Fantastic spinach bread. Can’t wait to try other items.

Old school place to buy bread. Don’t be fooled the bread is yummy!!! One of the last originals places in JC to buy good bread. Support local businesses!!!

Genuine. No cookies, no cakes, just excellent breads. When I lived around the corner in the late ’80’s & early ’90’s I stopped there every day on my way to work. They were such a part of my daily routine that I contracted with them to bake all the bread for my wedding. I stopped back in today and was thrilled that the place looks the same, the products are just as good as they were 20 years ago, and the staff just as friendly. Yes, it has changed owners, but the new ones have kept the winning formula. You’ll not find a better bakery in Jersey City.

This place is a local gem – the definition of a hole in the wall. It’s been open almost 100 years(though it’s changed hands a few times). Donna, the proprietor is friendly and knowledgeable. The bread is terrific and super fresh. Make sure you ask to have it sliced(they have an industrial strength slicer in the back) unless you have a really sharp bread knife at home. I’ve tried the plain white, the semolina, and the whole wheat. All are fantastic: crusty on the outside, soft on the inside. The croissants are amazing. Come early for those, though; on weekends, they’re all gone by 10 or 11 in the morning. Added bonus: everything is super cheap. $ 3 for a giant roll of white bread. $ 3.50 for semolina.
