This is a consistently good eatery. I have been here several times and have always enjoyed my meals. I have had: — cheese burger with gruyère cheese — very good with chipotle mayo and sautéed onions — crab cake — very tasty — steak cob salad — very good — crème brûlée — tasty — chocolate, coffee and pistachio. Keep in mind this is not a fast service restaurant. Be sure you have at least 90 minutes to kill for lunch.

Easily my favorite place in Jersey City! I Always have a great experience whenever I come in for brunch, lunch or dinner. Ambiance is welcoming and comfortable. Staff is attentive and food is spot on every time! This time of year their outside seating is perfect in the well manicured brownstone district of Paulus Hook. Also a great date spot! Try the fresh oysters, duck entrée and daily specials. Hazelnut crusted brook trout was awesome.

Great ambiance and staff. Oysters are great but pricey. Beet salad could use a bit more flavor. Octopus was ok. The 24 day aged ribeye was quite disappointing. Was expecting a sizzling plate and out came a steak looking like they got it from Shoprite. The meat was tender but thin and absolutely flavorless. For $ 37 it was a joke. I make a better ribeye with Costco meat on my stove.

Started off with a really rude hostess who can’t think outside the box, followed by absolutely terrible service, warm stale beer, lukewarm beverages and bland food. First and last time at this place. Two thumbs down.

We had 4 adults and 2 strollers. The place was almost empty. The were several tables outside that would’ve easily acommodated us. The servers were very friendly and about to give us a table, when a hostes with attitude rudely notified us that they would not be able to fit our party. That was obviously not true, and a very poor decision(I’ve been in restaurant management for over 10 years).

Arrived at Light Horse in a group of four with a reservation. We were seated twenty minutes after our time despite empty tables all around. The free bread and butter was nice, nothing extraordinary but not terrible. We ordered oysters, mussels, and calamari for appetizers. Oysters were fresh and delicious, but the calamari seemed to fall flat. the mussels were very easy to share and were better than most places I’ve been to. Entrees were the two ducks, a pasta dish, and a steak. We tried one another’s meals and hands down the duck was the winner. The guys had one of the beers on tap, don’t remember the name. For dessert, the trio of crème brûlée was absolutely worth it! We spent about $ 200 amongst us 4. Honestly, I could’ve done without the calamari and the pasta. Both seemed overpriced for the quality of food. Despite the slow service we received(water refills took forever) I would return for sure.

From the ambiance to the customer service to the food itself, what a delight. Came here for my 21st birthday dinner w/an ex many years ago and recollect the tastiness of the skirt steak I had. Decided to try new dishes this time. For drinks I ordered a ginger lemonade(alcoholic) but it tasted like lemonade ONLY. Meh. Tried the cosmo and that was made just right, in fact very strong. 3⁄5 of our group drank cosmos for the remainder of our dinner. The bread served was at room temperature/cold. I prefer(as most people) warm bread so the butter can gently melt on it. For appetizers we shared the ‘Steamed Mussels: Chorizo, Tomatoes, Brooklyn Lager, Scallions, Cilantro’ and the Calamari: Spicy Yellow Tomato Ragout, Basil’. Both were good, especially the sauce from the steamed mussels. Yum! Wanting to try something new, I ordered this time the ‘Roasted duck breast: Braised Endive, Parsnips, Port Wine & Cherry Reduction’. It was almost perfect except I’d prefer it was a little more done and not as bright pink. The endive, cherry reduction, and parsnips beautifully complimented the duck. Parking can be tough in this area as many streets are permit only, the exception being on Sundays and holidays. Perfect date place as it’s next to the Exchange Place boardwalk which can be very romantic on a nice night. Highly recommend!

Wowww!!! Stopped in for lunch and it was such attentive service! The owner even came up to us before the rain started and was worried even though we he umbrellas over us saying please move inside you will be comfortable! Really great service GREAT food! My friend and I both got the steak salad and we were in loveeee! Opt for the $ 29 rose bottle it’s so worth it! Sit outside and enjoy your meal! Can’t wait to return! The inside is so beautiful too! We went for one last drink inside! Clearly shows we didn’t want to leave…

This review is hard to do — I was at Light Horse for a wine tasting event. This place is adorable and looks like they have plenty of table seating along with a big bar. We spent our night downstairs for a private event and had such great servers! They were attentive and friendly. We had duck, soup, salad and dessert. All were tasty. I found it to be clean. I would suggest for a private party or large dinner!

Love the food at Light Horse! We come here at least once per week. The oysters are always fresh and delicious. On the weekends, they offer live music(piano and bass). The mixed drinks are very fresh and tasty. They have seating by windows with street view as well as seating in the back which is more intimate. Service is a little hit or miss. Having eating at Light Horse frequently, I can say that service is very laid back and slow. If you need constant attention, this is not the place for you. Some like the slower service as it does not disrupt the dynamic of the table conversation. However, if you need a refill or the check, you will most likely have to get someone’s attention. The place is always clean and eager to seat you. The staff are friendly and the food is great. I fell in love with the décor and ambiance when I moved here over a year ago and haven’t stopped coming. Check them out, but don’t take my reservation! Haha.

Came here for brunch after a run one day. The fresh OJ was really refreshing. I got the duck hash with eggs which was good but had too many potatoes and very little duck. It came with cheese grits which was creamy and well seasoned. The steak and eggs was good as well — tender and a very generous portion.

I went on the weekend for a late lunch. Great location and venue. Service was poor as it felt like the servers were resting up for the dinner crowd. Water was not refilled etc. The starters we ordered were very good(greens and hummus) but the main dishes were not(burger and steak). Both were undercooked and both did not taste very fresh.

Party of 7 with a last minute reservation but they were able to sneak us in. Ben was our waiter, great guy, great attitude, didn’t rush us one bit when one of our party was late. Got a mix of drinks and apps to start, all very good. Oysters were excellent. All entrees were excellent except one. I had the special dry aged sirloin, asked for medium rare but it was closer to medium well — sacrilegious for a nice piece of beef like that. Needless to say the meat wasn’t great but everything else was spot on. Building itself was great, cool place. Low lights and exposed brick walls. Would definitely go back. Nice job Ben.

My family and I were very impressed with the service. We waited a little over 10 minutes to get our table but were nicely greeted and waited on by Alexandra. She did a fantastic job taking our orders and not taking notes on top of that. Everything came out within reasonable time and was delicious. Thanks for a great experience. We will definitely be back.

I’ve been to Light Horse Tavern quite a few times for work events, and it never disappoints! It’s a great place to get drinks after work, and has a wonderful menu. I’d recommend: — The Steak Cobb Salad, it’s not as heavy as you’d expect. I finished my entire plate(I’m 5’5″ and 115 lbs). — French Dip, messy but worth it. Friday Special! — Lobster Roll, delicious but again, not your standard American-sized portion.

Visited on Valentine’s day. Food was good and the wine was delicious. The oysters were good as well. The interior is great and there is a small outdoor space where we were able to sit with our dog and drink a pitcher of sangria(not on Valentine’s day).

The Quick: An amazing gem in Jersey City. The food is delicious, the presentation exquisite, the venue gorgeous, and the staff are accommodating. An absolute must try. The Details: Picture a bright open space with high ceilings, exposed brick, and gold accents. The restaurant was beautiful and had food to match the appearance. The salmon entrée was literally out of this world, and the butternut squash soup was such a delight. I went for lunch and would absolutely return for dinner if I’m in the neighborhood. The Damage: Entrees were ~ $ 16 and I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu.

This was my hubby’s local when we were dating, although we hardly ever ate there back then. Returning on a visit and wanting to visit the local haunts we met up with friends and had a lovely time. The building is gorgeous — hard to believe that it was a complete dive-bar before it became the Light Horse. Both the service and food were excellent. The service was quick and the waiter very polite and the food was superb. The mussels were divine and I could have just put my head in the bowl to lap up the broth had I not been in public! The Monday night special was Lobster Risotto — this too was excellent with lots of lobster. This was a bit of a reunion with old friends and they were very good about not hurrying us — but it being a Monday was not too busy, so we didn’t feel like we were hogging a table.

Great food from appetizers to the caesar salad to the best gnocci I’ve ever had. The service was outstanding for our party of 14. Our server was great and attentive give the size of our group. Great energy and vibe.
