My wife and I were told about La Conga Supermarket when we moved to JC by our close friends that lived around the corner from the place. They are located on Grove Street, not too far from the PATH station. It is an ethnic(Latin) supermarket that caters to the community. However, the best thing about this place is the butcher shop in the back. You would never realize they had one unless someone told you or you just so happened to venture in. They have a wide variety of fresh meats that best suits you taste from pork chops, chicken(legs, wings, and breast etc.), and stakes etc. You can also order meat packages which will come with a combination of meats(beacon, ribs, chicken, etc.) for a reasonable price. There are about 5 different types of meat packages. Just select the one that best fits your needs. The service is great and the people in the store are always friendly. I am a fan!!!

For the past 10 years I’ve come to La Conga for one thing or another and I’ve seen it change with the times. The produce section recently was upgraded. It’s a great local butcher. Very friendly and incredibly clean.

I read some of other reviews and had to chime in. This place is fantastic for what it is and offers to the community. It is not Pathmark or Shoprite. Their meat doesn’t sit in styrofoam wrapped containers all day long and is not cut/processed the night before. Everything is cut/made to order. The food offerings fall under the Spanish category — so if you’re looking for«white yuppie food» look elsewhere. Best thing they offer is the meat counter. Their meat is thick, flavorful and fresh. I doubt it is organic based on the size of the chicken breasts, so know that going in. But, the unhygenic thing people are complaining about is crazy. The meat is kept in a large locker and brought out to a refrigerated deli counter as needed. And the turnover is incredible. Try going in there on a Saturday or Sunday morning and you’ll be waiting 30 minutes to get past all the customers who are buying pounds and pounds of meat. I’m not sure about the glove situation, but who cares — you’re going to wash, season, and cook it anyway, right? So the meat is great, the rice/bean selection is great. Avocados are huge and cheap. Meat is very cheap as well. You’d be hard pressed to find a better deal in Jersey City.

This store is at a walking distance from the Path station. It carries all the staples grocery items required for ethnic Latin cuisine. This is probably the only store in JC downtown which carries all pan Spanish groceries. There is always a long line here to get the meat. But I have felt the meat items here are not kept in the most hygienic so I never bought any meat items here. The produce here is not of the best quality but they do carry some stuff one cannot find at other stores. The staff here is helpful and attentive.

Friendly staff here — they are always polite, bag my groceries, and hold the door for me when I leave. I’ve only been here for the occasional random grocery item or taco ingredients. Convenient location for my walk home from the PATH train.

I came here to buy some meat and poultry… will never step foot in this place again. The«butchers» were handling the raw meat with their bare hands. The meat was clearly not refrigerated, stored or handled properly. I left without buying anything. I was so disappointed, because I STILL haven’t found a decent place to buy meat in Jersey City.

I discovered this ethnic supermarket a couple of weeks ago. I love it! Where else can I get non-Goya discs to make empanadas so close to home? I was also able to pick up hard to find ingredients like dried hominy. I’m definitely a fan!

Find your ethnic spanish foods here. Prices are great and so is the selection. Convenient as its close to the Grove St Path station. I bought a gallon of milk here for $ 2.99, which is a rarity in the city.

Convenient for those that live in the downtown area when searching for spanish food and want to get canned food in the Grove Street area. No parking, but at least it’s close to Dunkin Donuts.
