The best part about this place is the service. Every time I walk in, someone immediately asks what I need and points me in the direction of where it is. They might not have the selection of Home Depot, but if it’s something simple it takes much less time to get it here.

This is a classic old-​school neighborhood hardware joint. The owners and staff are very enthusiastic. They will help you with whatever you need, and recommend where you can go to get what you need, if they cannot provide for it. That being said, the selection of items is somewhat limited, and things are a bit pricey. But hey, what do you expect on Newark Ave, just blocks from Grove St PATH. Definitely a solid store.

I don’t visit hardware stores very often. When I do, it’s usually a Lowe’s or Home Depot. However, since Downtown True Value is in walking distance from my apartment, I decided to give it a shot and I’m glad I did. Their selection is not huge but they have a little bit of everything. The staff are very attentive and try their best to help get what you need. The aisles are decently spaced so you can get around pretty easily. The prices tend a be a bit higher than their big name competition but I didn’t mind giving some business to the little guy. Especially one that’s located so close to the Grove Street PATH station.

Same experience as a lot of other reviewers, but the guys here are very friendly and help you make the right decisions for whatever project you need help with. They also give you some guidance on how to do things or what to expect when doing certain projects.
Prices are a tad higher than I’m sure i could find, but I’ve come to expect that in DTJC and around the PATH station.

They’re not open very late, but this is a nice little hard ware store with the things you need at it. Need a bucket? They have a bucket. Need pliers? They have pliers. My fingers are crossed for this place making it through the Newark Ave «now for rent“amageddon that is changing Newark ave constantly!

So, this place may be slightly pricier on some items than the average run/​chain of the mill type places (I did find mason jars cheaper at Shop Rite) but, it’s in downtown JC and super close to my home and the guy who runs it — such a great guy that treats his customers with a smile, attention and politeness.
This is definitely the mom n’ pop type place that is all about servicing the local community. I had to buy some sand bags the other day — and each bag weighed in at about 60 lbs. The guy who owns/​runs the place met me outside in the back, where I brought my car around and loaded them up. So nice!
This place is definitely a great place to get a lot of last minute goods as well as any other handy man/​tools/​home service/​garden items you may need and you know that the cash money is staying local in our community and that’s what it’s all about.

These people have been here a long time and for good reason.
They are very well organized, carry almost everything and the owner is really knowledgeable.
It is a little expensive and there are items you could get at the 99 cent store but I like that the owner will walk around with you and make recommendations.

I love this place. They have a great selection and can order stuff not in stock so you have it in a few days. All the staff is extremely helpful. Also, they are not condescending as male hardware store clerks sometimes are to women shoppers. I shop at True Value for many DYI projects and they ROCK! Try getting your supplies here before you hit the big box stores.
