This is the old OX, supposed to be one of those fancy places that could not deliver on the promise. The owner is the same as Sawadee and More, so it would not surprise you to see a lot of the Sawadee dishes here plus Sushi and a little taste of Korean. The good thing about this place is that it will satisfy a group that would want to eat those 3 different kinds of Asian cuisine all in one place. That being said, it does not excel in any one particular cuisine. Most of the dishes are decent to good, and the place is nicely done, although some tables a re a little shaky(uneven floors, maybe?). BYO is a definitely plus.

I feel like their sushi has improved, the atmosphere is still beautiful. The sushi rolls are always inconsistent sizes and are not rolled by a professional. They just need to improve their technique.

Definitely a fan. This is one of the few places in Jersey City that I’ve been to where the décor has meaningfully impacted my experience at said place. It is just beautifully decorated and looks right out of some romcom first date scene. In other words, take your date here! As far as the food goes, it is very solid. I usually go with the Bento Box(best bang for your buck). You get some form of entrée, some sushi, some soup, and some salad. I’ve had both the Beef and Broccoli and the Peanut Chicken, both of which were quite enjoyable. Service here is nice, prices are reasonable, and though it is a bit out of the way compared to other places in the area, it won’t do you wrong.

Meh food was big but not too good, sloppy sushi, I liked the décor, our waitress was completely useless and did a horrible job… May eventually go back but not anytime soon

Food: Bland. Tried the Perfect Lover platter(sushi & sashimi) and everything was unimpressive and generally flavorless. Also wasn’t very well put together, kept falling apart. Service: Lacking. I feel bad saying it but our waitress was kind of a mess. She seemed frazzled(which I can understand — rough day, first day, whatever) but she kept forgetting to bring waters after multiple asks. She kept bumping into my leg! And when we asked her to «make our sushi platter WITHBROWNRICE», she interpreted it as «make our sushi platter with white rice WITHBROWNRICEONTHESIDE.» HUH? Idk if that was a language barrier thing or what but it was pretty annoying. So she offered us 2 beers on the house to make up for it. We said we already had 2 beers each and didn’t want any more beer. She said she couldn’t do a credit for some reason. She said she could give us $ 12 cash out of her own pocket. I felt kind of bad but ended up accepting it and putting it toward her tip… Idk if that’s really their policy to not offer credit to disgruntled customers but it was kind of a dumb mistake on her part… Décor: Cute/pleasant with some slightly tacky(not in a bad way) elements(what looked like Christmas ornaments) Beer: Your options are Tsingtao, Sapporo, Singha and Kirin Light I would not come back here.

Just moved to the area recently, and I have to say. This place may be ranked 3.5 stars for now, but I have a feeling it will soon be a very happily permanent 4 stars. I have ordered sushi from here several times. I was skeptical, since«quick sushi delivery that doesn’t taste like a slightly better version of the grocery store version» sounds, to me, like letters to santa claus. ONLYSANTACLAUSWROTEBACK! If you are looking for something that will satisfy your sushi craving, that is quick, delicious, and with pretty generous portions, stop reading my post and go order delivery now! P. S. I haven’t tried the nigiri or sashimi yet, but the Passion Roll and the Electric Roll are fantabulous. The passion roll is $ 14, but there are a lot of ingredients in the roll, but it is so large, it’s like getting 2 eight pieced fancy rolls.

great sushi, so why the one star you ask? two incidents, both on delivery orders. first: we tip upon delivery. the meal was late and so the tip was scarce. the delivery guy yelled at us to leave a bigger tip. not particular great experience in a country where money talks in response to the quality of the service. so when I ordered a second time recently, I didn’t have enough cash and left a tip on the card. well guess what this a-hole did? he threw the food at my door and left instead of ringing the doorbell like a human being. I might only make in person visits now because I don’t want to be abused by their insane delivery guy. having read other reviewers apparent this is a thing at the box. even the waitresses demand bigger tips. unbelievable! pay your people the salaries they deserve!

I loved the décor of this place! It had an indoor garden feel with trees that were strung with lights and a fountain. The food was pretty good too. I got two rolls California roll and Chicken Teriyaki. My one complaint would be that the California rolls were pretty small. My friend got the eggplant noodles and said they were to dye for, come back from the grave and eat them again. I think overall this place is a must go to because the décor is just so neat and it’s pretty well priced for what you get. Also I might add whatever playlist they had on was awesome!

My staple for when I’m looking for something local! They excel at dine-in service or delivery. During dine-in, always fantastic food, reasonable prices, and a very friendly wait staff. For delivery, the food has always been on time. I recommend it to anyone that visits me in Jersey City and asks for sushi or whenever coworkers from out of the area speculate as to what they should have. This place is a must!

This place is great, 2nd time here and the service was much better this time around the food is better than expected. The vegetarian duck fried rice is delish! And the box Chicken Szechuan with a California roll and a wonton soup was great as well. Will definitely be returning!

Great food, great prices, a little funky on the décor, and although the reviews mentioned BYO, we had a very weird interaction with the host. He begrudgingly told us yes, we could bring beer, and then showed us a cocktail list… Huh? Whatever. Grab some Sapporos down the street and dig in!

I ordered 3 sushi rolls and crab wontons. The delivery time was a little longer than I expected and the wontons were room temperature by the time they arrived. However, they were still quite tasty and the sushi was surprisingly delicious, especially the Rainbow Roll. This was my first time ordering take-out sushi and I was pleasantly surprised with how fresh it tasted. I will definitely order again!

The Box is one of those places where you feel right at home the moment you enter. The food is great, the service prompt and courteous and with a wonderful smile. Just had the Korean BBC ribs with California roll Bento box… highly recommended!

I am very picky about asian/chinese/thai food but MAN this place does it right! Pretty décor, spacious seating, and a menu with a lot of variety. Today we came in for a Bento Box for lunch. I had chose the crispy dried szeshuan beef. I was pleasantly surprised that is wasn’t greasy or swimming in sauce! Simply packed with flavor and perfectly cooked little strips of beef(huge portion) and thin vegetables like onions and scallions. Also comes with 6 pieces of sushi or a roll(we picked raw tuna roll), soup or salad, and white rice. Everything was solid! However, their ginger salad is literally flavorless, like cardboard, so sad! I really enjoy a nice simple salad with ginger dressing. What a disappointment, the dressing color was spot on– orange like it should be, but it was tasteless :-(and I wasn’t the only person who thought. Everything we ordered minus their ginger salad was AMAZING though. This brings me to the HIGHLIGHT of our meal– the Beijing Duck appetizer! Oh my god! It’s similar to a deconstructed pork buns appetizer. You have your tender pieces of duck, side of thinly sliced scallions, buns, and a dark, sweet sauce. You build it yourself! I would give this appetizer 10 stars if I could. Make sure you order this and you will thank me! After coming here for the first time, I will never order any thai/asian/chinese from anywhere but The Box ever again. Bravo! So perfect. Way better than any place near me in Hoboken.

Took over two hours for delivery. When I called they lied and said it was on the way. Then they called back and said they never got the order. That I’d be refunded and they’d send new food. Then they charged me twice. After they said they’d refund me. So I had no food and was short over $ 40. They blamed charging me twice and lying on not speaking English well. Then they tired up my phone for over 4 hours by not hanging up which was simply bizarre. Now I have to wait 3 business days for my refunds and ordered dinner somewhere else. Never again.

After my traumatic lunch experience at Honshu yesterday, I had to cleanse my palate and stop at Box(my real go-to) on the way home tonight. I don’t know why Box is always empty because their sushi is really really good. It’s always super fresh. I can’t speak for the rest of their fusion-y food because I haven’t tried it… but as far as sushi goes, I’d say they’re one of the best in town. And even though I’ve never dined in, I love the ambiance. It’s a joy just to pop in and pick up my food :)

Although it doesn’t push the boundaries on Asian fusion in the least(ie, not really cooking outside the box…;)), it is solid, dependable, affordable, and a mainstay in the neighborhood. The usual bento box-type deals and lunch specials abound here. Chinese, Japanese, Thai — you’ll find it all. Even Malaysian curry with roti. I’ve broken it down as follows. Box is a suitable option for: *Cooked sushi rolls and Japanese bento box items *Standard Americanized Chinese fare — somewhat elevated *Thai food(but why not just get Sawadee across the street and keep it in the family(they have the same owners) *Other Pan-Asian dishes When it’s snowing outside or you are working from home and need a dependable red curry over rice to get you through an afternoon of conference calls without wasting away, Box will pull through.

Went here for dinner on a Thursday night. The service was a bit slow for our taste… But the food was pretty good. I had a Bento box with a California roll(very good) and Korean-style short ribs(they were good, but were not warm/hot enough for my taste). We also got wonton soup with our meals, though they forgot to bring it out and we ended up getting it to-go. I’m willing to give this place another shot to see if the service improves.

Generally my experiences at Box are great and I always look forward until the next time I come back. That was until tonight happened. I am still speechless and fuming. This is the worse treatment that I have ever received and am so insulted. I brought a cousin who was visiting from Seattle to enjoy a late dinner. Food was solid as usual, nothing too out of the ordinary. As we left the restaurant, our waitress Mai chased after us demanding that we tip her more. Strike one. She then proceeded to lecture us saying that«we need to tip more, this is America and not your country.» Strike two. After a back and forth that I will spare details on she told us never ever to return. Strike three. I am normally a good tipper and tip accordingly to the service and food. For a waitress to run after me asking for me is simply ridiculous not to mention embarrassing and then to be insulted due to my ethnicity. I just can’t believe it. Needless to say I will NEVEREVER return to this establishment again. One rotten apple really can ruin an entire load. PS. We didn’t increase our tip, I regret not taking back the tip in its entirety.
