The Rah Bar is my favorite lunch spot on Jekyll. There is nothing better than a pound of peel-and-eat shrimp with their specialty buffalo dipping sauce and melted butter. Get a side of corn on the cob or potatoes if you must, but it really isn’t necessary. They often run specials like two margaritas or a pitcher of beer with your pound of shrimp. When the weather is nice, you can sit right on the pier. Fortunately, they’ve recently combined their lunch menu with Latitude 31, so you can also sit in their sunny dining room when the weather isn’t so nice.

Been coming here for years. Our family has reached fifth generation Jekyll Island status, and we always make at least one afternoon outing to the Rah Bar. I really love the location right on the river, with views all around. A swell place to just sit, eat, drink, be merry, and soak up the Georgia sun. Along with food, they’re serving up beer and a small cocktail list. Dad and I had the Cooter Brown, which was a perfect compliment to the brine and horseradish. It’s nothing special, but just a good ol’ standard oyster shack. Nothing over-the-top, so get off your high horse, kick of your crocs, peel some delicious bigass shrimp, and down a dozen on the half-shell…even if they do have a little grit in ‘em. ;^) Come here and see for yourself. The oysters are big and subtle. The shrimp succulent, and the rest of the menu is fine I’m sure… but I’m not really coming here for anything else. I’ll certainly be back. Year after year.

OMG. What happened to this place! Service was always a little difficult, but now it seems non-existent. Understaffed and overworked.

Always awesome. One of the first stops we make when we get up the the island. Drinks are great and the shrimp is incredible!

The seating is first come first served, so it gets a little chaotic and the servers stay busy with the turnover on the tables. Pack a little patience if you visit, the servers will get to you and once they do, your food and drinks come quickly. The view is peaceful and atmosphere is very laid back.

A group of us hoped to enjoy lunch while we were staying at the Club for a wedding. After sitting down it took 20 mins to be greeted and 40 mins to get water. After an hour we were told they were out of half the menu items. The server was rude and we could not wait any longer. Sadly, we had a very poor experience…

You seat yourself here, so be prepared to wait for someone to notice that you’re there. Their signs on the road state oysters and shrimp; that’s all I recommend that you order. Seafood nachos were a joke… a scoop of seafood salad on top of stale, cheese –covered tortilla chips. Server was asked for napkins and never brought any. Server offered a basket for our shrimp shells, only to never bring one. Happened to be out of all soups and the draft beer I ordered. The peel and eat shrimp were great. The outdoor dining area was nice. The live was good. Overall a lousy dining experience on an island with limited eateries.

My partner and I visited the Rah Bar after a day spent exploring the island looking for good seafood and drinks. The first thing you notice is that all of the tables are on the deck and overlook the water – very, very laidback with a dive vibe. For me, that’s not a problem – often these kinds of places have the best seafood. We found a table, and a server came to us with menus, which were extremely limited. For this sort of place, I wasn’t surprised. Ultimately though, we decided at that point that we would have a drink and an appetizer, and then find a place that had more dinner options. We decided to split a half pound of peel-and-eat shrimp($ 12), and I ordered what our server referred to as their most popular drink – the Rum Smash(no drink menu, so I just went based on her recommendation). The shrimp were big and delicious, and came with some hot sauce and cocktail sauce on the side. Definitely recommend trying these. The drink was also very tasty. Overall, 3 stars to the Rah Bar for limited options and prices that were on the high end for the atmosphere. For an appetizer and drink the bill ended up being almost $ 30 with tip – the Rum Smash cost a whopping $ 12 which I thought was way, way overpriced(average sized drink served in a plastic cup for a price that matches or exceeds that of a martini at a fancy restaurant? No thanks!). If there was a drink list I couldn’t complain, but no such luck. The next time I’m on Jekyll Island I would happily stop by the Rah Bar again for a drink and some quick seafood… but I would be sure to ask about the price of drinks!

Great atmosphere, awesome servers, and really good traditional seafood! Must try the boiled shrimp, crab legs, and red potatoes. We devoured every piece! Avoid the sausages. They were really unappetizing and yuck. No one in our party could eat more than one bite. They had a weird color and an even weirder taste.

I was a little skeptical coming here at first. We went with a group of people. The menu was VERY limited and kind of pricey for the atmosphere. But I shall eat my words. Great spot on Jekyll Island. The drinks were amazing, the shrimp was to DIE for, she crab soup was a little bit of heaven. I can’t wait to come back here!!! I was told the shrimp we ate was caught that morning. Could not get any better. I admit it was pricey but I have no problem paying good money for good food!

Great food and service. I had the crab legs and they were by far the best I’ve ever had. One cluster had 5 or 6 legs on it which was plenty to eat for me. Can’t remember our servers name but she was very sweet and came around plenty of times to check on us.

Five stars for both food and atmosphere. Do yourself a favor and order seafood when you are here. The oysters and shrimp are always fresh and phenomenal. The low country boil is a regional specialty(put some south in your mouth) done right at the rah bar. Those of you with shellfish allergies should stick to Dairy Queen. Try to go when a live band is playing! Our fave is Backbeat Boulevard. Check out when they play there by googling them. The one drawback? Understaffed to the extreme! Our food routinely takes about an hour to arrive on busy nights. The pain of the wait is lessened with plenty of adult beverages, though.

The Rum Smash is a must!!! The waiter was busy, but offered great customer service… They are connected to Latitude 31, but Rah is patio dining… Mostly steamed seafood, but if you want fried then try 31!!! Use a little bug spray… But a great outdoor, seafood experience!!!

I went there to try the local shrimp. It was good. The service was slow, drinks not refilled, no organization. It really just gave me a bad impression of the whole island, but I didn’t really go anywhere else. I’d find somewhere else to try to local seafood.

This«Rah» bar has a «macrobrew» beer selection(Budweiser products) and Coca-Cola products(not Coke Zero, sadly). Their sweet tea is pretty good. The services is good; the people are friendly. We ordered a half pound of shrimp and a dozen oysters. The shrimp was excellent! It was cooked to perfection, and it was lightly salted with Old Bay seasoning. They came with cocktail sauce and buttery hot-sauce. The oysters were okay. They came with horseradish, buttery hot sauce, and saltine crackers. My sister did not like them, because she thought they were too fishy. All-in-all, this was a treat.

Service was painfully slow. Raw Oysters were small and not cold. Bloody Mary’s were to expensive with not enough alcohol… Don’t think I would recommend this one.

This place needs an update. Pier is old and looks weathered. 6 – 7 tiny tables out in the hot sun, 3 of them equipped with umbrellas. Bar stools have either lumpy or no padding, should have been tossed into the sea to join the shipwreck years ago. Service is very slow, food and drink are expensive. Birds will visit your table and steal food. Skip this dump and go to the pizza/mini golf place down the street. Not worth the view.

The peel &eat shrimp, crab leg clusters & oysters are excellent. Service at lunch was great. A very nice experience, so we came back the next day. Our waitress remembered our drink orders, the food was fresh & it was a fantastic lunch. We came back for dinner the night before we left the island. Service was awful! We had to ask twice for crab crackers, they weren’t brought with the meal. No shrimp cocktail sauce for the shrimp. No bucket for crab shells. We asked for extra butter & were told to split what we had into another cup. Seriously? Is there a butter shortage on the island? It’s not like I wouldn’t pay for extra butter. Plus, the worst gin & tonic I have been served. Finally, the live music was so loud the wait staff couldn’t hear us. Bottom line, come for lunch.
