One weekend morning a friend of mine and I went to Sweetwater Café and patiently waited to put our name down. Not one employee greeted anyone in the line or even stated«we’ll be with you momentarily». It didn’t take long to seat us but we immediately noticed Megan’s, our server, attitude. We had 4 menus with us and she asked if the others were coming very soon. We said yes. She then turns to the couple behind us and asked«Are you guys ready to get out of here?» We thought it was bizarre. When taking our order she stated«Well who wants to go first?» Our food was fantastic, as always. Megan was on point with filling our drinks and asking if we needed anything additional. Once plates were cleared she didn’t bother to ask how we wanted our checks. Therefore when we asked her to separate them she seem livid and flopped our checks down. Not once did she smile or even bother to try to consider customer service during her shift. We decided to wait and call to speak to a manager after the breakfast rush. The girl who answered the phone said that it was too busy to speak to a manager and wanted us to call later. I have many years of experience in F&B and my friend is currently a retail manager, so we know how rough it can get especially when you are not feeling well or the day just isn’t going quite right. But our server’s attitude was uncalled for and further action could have been taken by Sweetwater when we called to talk to the manager at a decent time, definitely something more than a dismissive«call back later». Sad, because I always liked this place.

Good service, except hostess, she was unpleasant. Bad food. Watered down eggs, uncooked English muffin, no flavor in anything. How do you make bad scrambled eggs? Runny with an appearance of placenta. Now I have to have breakfast again. I’ll cook it myself.

Their breakfast sandwiches are amazing! I had an overhard egg, cheese, bacon on sour dough toast. The egg was cooked perfectly, it’s hard to find a place that can cook an egg correctly. My fiancé had the corned beef plate, which he enjoyed. The wait staff was attentive and friendly. Also, presently surprised with their espresso selection. I grabbed an iced caramel latte on the way out.

This was one of the first brunch places I went to in Charleston. The food is always great and the staff is quite friendly. I always get chicken and biscuits but I did try the crunchy french toast and that was delicious! Corn flakes on your french toast! I will always come here if I have visitors in town!

i’ve been to Sweetwater Café a couple of times and I’ve always had a pleasant experience. The staff is nice and attentive and quick to refill your coffee or water. I’ve gone with a few different people and everyone has always had good things to say. If you’re looking for a local diner with good breakfast and lunch fare, this is a good spot. The menu is pretty standard — nothing wild or trendy — just good comfort food. The vibe is relaxed, but it’s a small venue that can seem a little crowded at times. The place stays pretty busy on the weekend, so plan accordingly.

Over in James Island dropping off my daughter for a school event. Wanted some calories for the day and found Sweetwater on Unilocal with 4 stars. At 10am on saturday morning there was a 30 minute wait for 2. So we wait and my expectations are raised. Seated in the addition part and it was very loud. Not a problem for me but dont come here for peace and quiet. I ordered the farmers omelette with grits and rye toast. My wife ordered fried eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and cheese grits. The farmers omelette and grits were both amazing. Wifes meal was good. Service was excellent. I completely agree with Unilocalers’ 4 stars.

Been coming here since back when it was The BearyPatch… I think it’s changed hands but still great food. Love being able to get breakfast anytime and those are a bit unique, too. I’ve enjoyed the Reuben’s, great burgers, and great meatloaf. Almost cried when The BearyPatch closed, thank goodness it came back as The Sweetwster Café… with much of the food intact.

What a great place! Came here with my wife, daughter, and in-laws and all of our meals were excellent. My mother in law particularly love the mashed potatoes. We all loved the she crab soup. Lots of interesting and unusual items on the menu. We will be back!

100% Classic Breakfast Joint. They’ve got your eggs-meat-toast-taters combo, with the most classic preparations for all, pancakes, french toast, waffles, biscuits… something for everyone. The food is delicious, the service is great and the price is right on. I only go out for breakfast a handful of times a year and I think it’ll be at Sweetwater for the rest of 2016.

Why did it take us so long to find this place?! They serve breakfast all day! After a long morning bike ride, we were able to come by and grab a veggie omelet and banana nut pancakes! Yum! The food was excellent!

Had our first visit to Sweetwater today and I would say it lived up to our expectations. They offer basic diner type food at locally comparable prices. I just had a side of bacon since I had already eaten at home. It was cooked nice and crispy, just how I like it. My husband got the corned beef hash with a side of grits. Everything had good flavor. It was nothing out of the ordinary, but just what you might expect from a little diner. They have a great selection of lattes and coffee drinks. I probably wouldn’t choose this place to take out of town guests, but for a quick place to get some comfort food, it fits the bill perfectly!

Warm friendly atmosphere. Staff is attentive and polite. Great breakfast menu. The steak omellete is delicious. Price are fair. Highly recommended. This is not a «frou frou» breakfast place. Nice and simply. Super folks. Malibubuoy.

This family friendly spot is our go-to for weekday or weekend breakfast. The staff is very solid and we generally see the same faces every time. They offer gluten free toast — their service staff is generally very understanding and helpful when it comes to navigating the menu and understand GF preparation. They offer gluten free toast, too, which is huge for Charleston! It’s usually Udi’s brand bread that you can sub for no extra cost for toast or for their sandwiches. Breakfast sandwiches here are amazing. The sausage patties come grilled with amazingly delicious grill marks and a bit of southern breakfast sausage spice to them. Love that flavor. Their coffee is amazingly rich and strong for the brewed variety. We always get a cup to go, too! This location is by far the best we’ve been to and we consistently come here every week.

We came here every morning after my husband would finish a pharmacy school exam. It hit the spot every time. I’ve tried most of the breakfast menu and loved everything. My husband always had the open faced chicken and biscuit with customizations. So yummy!

I’m in food heaven here on Folly Road in SC. Best BLT and truly Greatest Grits ever with my sweet tea! Friendly wait staff. I’ll be back for breakfast, lunch or dinner… sooner rather than later!

We stopped coming to this café about 3 yrs ago because their service was AWFUL but after reading more recent reviews it did appear that the service issues have been resolved. So we decided to try again and it was better– the service and the cleanliness was up to par and the weird smell in the back dining area was gone. I had the Blackened Salmon with eggs and a biscuit and the hubby had the steak and eggs with grits. He loved his meal– I liked my salmon it was good nothing phenomenal and the eggs were good cooked a little under but still good. The showstopper was the biscuit we both had! I could tell when she set the plate down that was going to be a game changer. The flakiness the buttery taste oh my goodness that was by far the best biscuit I have ever had! It was perfect for scooping up the egg yolks. We will definitley come back and enjoy more of their food and of course the biscuits!

Got my meatloaf fix. After suffering withdrawals from lack of meatloaf, I got my fix. Waitress was very nice and accommodating and truthful with her ratings of menu items. Place is very laid back. Love the casual atmosphere. Food was tasty and textured. SaleebScore: Value 10⁄10; Food 8⁄10; Service 8.5÷10. Shout out goes to Stephanie our server for the great and friendly service.

Cruised in here for an early lunch because they accept AMEX and serve lunch at 10:30AM. Good value for the money. I enjoyed their crab cakes and they had good coffee. The plastic worn out cups date the place but everything else including service was great.

Stopped into Sweetwater Café, sadly on our way back to California. Loved our stay whilst in South Carolina; the people, the weather, the history and architecture and especially the food! We needed breakfast badly to counter-balance the weekend festivities and the Unilocal reviews were spot-on. The wifey ordered the Corned Beef hash breakfast and I ordered the two-egg breakfast with sausage links. If I hadn’t said this before I’ll say it again, I’ll order the«basics» on any menu during my first visit because if the restaurant can’t get the simple stuff right, what are chances they can make the complicated entrees correct? Service — perfect with a smile. Breakfast — awesome; good portions and very tasty. We both liked the grilled biscuit — different, but good. Our future visits to South Carolina will definitely include a visit to Sweetwater Café. Thank you very much for a great breakfast!

Today one the way out we stopped in for a family breakfast with eight of us. The parking lot was slam full and we had a 10 minute wait as the restaurant was completely full. So after the wait we were seated by the hostess and then set down and then we chatted we are waitress that was expecting and she made us feel right at home. The menu had a lot of unique breakfast items to try, I settled on the salami and cheese omelette with a cup of she crab soup as a side. The sides are also unique but the ones with astrics have an up charge. The meal was great I would definitely come back to try the frosted flake encrusted French toast. If you staying on Folly Beach I would say it’s worth the ten to fifteen minute drive depending on traffic.
